advice Junior Developer Career advice

Hi guys, I'm a junior software dev for almost 1 year and 2 months. Is it normal po ba na ako yung junior sa team pero ako yung nagtuturo sa senior dev about sa ginagamit naming tech stack ngayon?

I have no problem teaching other people naman but minsan napapa-question ako if senior ba talaga siya or sinwerte lang sa position niya? From what I know, he's been around for almost 10 years in our current company, pero ako yung nagtuturo sa kanya kung ano ang gagawin or paano i-implement yung new features na nirequest ng client and worst case scenario is hindi siya marunong gumamit ng Git sa VS Code kaya pag may changes siya sa project namin ako pa yung nagre-review ng changes niya at nag pupush. Tapos ako rin nagde-decide if pasado ba yung code niya or hindi.

Tapos most of the time ai yung pinapacode niya gaya ng new project namin ngayon nawalan ako ng gana kasi mostly ai codes at sobrang messy

Sa angular typescript na framework din ako yung nag eexplain sakanya about the project structure, sa syntax, etc.. wala akong idea sa angular typescript basa basa lang ako sa docs

Planning to resign na after makuha 13th month or should i stay until 2 years?

what will be the best move to do for my career?

Currenly learning React , tailwind , NextJS

discussion Why are mid level and VP level developers getting eaten by AI?

What are the usual tasks of mid level and VP level developers these days? I’m hearing from the news that these people are vulnerable right now to AI. I thought the problem was just with the juniors?

Ano ba yung e-invoicing?

  • 5M transactions a year
  • 1,000 active accounts
  • 3 years na operating, pasok sa 5M at 1K bawat taon
  • ISO 27001, 27017, 27018 at SOC report
  • 15 days lang para mag-apply, October 16 to 30

Okay lang yung security checks, tax data to eh.

  • Pinoy startups. Bawal pumasok, gaano man kaganda yung gawa.

  1. Dagdagan yung 15 days para mag-apply.
  3. Unti-untiin yung ISO at SOC within 24 months.

Disclosure: may stake ako dito kasi e-invoicing service yung ginagawa namin.

advice All Payment Gateway here in PH is painfully slow.

Context: I'm a small startup founder everything is ready and we're gearing for launch except the payment gateway which is no problem since we can do manual payments but ofcourse i still applied to all payments gateway including Paymongo, Xendit, Maya Business and recently Hitpay. I already sent all the requirements such as BIR, DTI and some docs.

But it's been 3 weeks none of this payment gateway really bothers to check my application no email, no updates when you tried to reach out via email or live chat it's the same process. Hopefully Hitpay would expedite the process for me. I'm still looking for any payment gateway preferably that accept local payments such as gcash, and maya. Anyone?

advice Advice for junior dev's future

Hello I just wanted to make this post since I've been jobless for 2 months already due to a layoff for company financial reasons and it's really tough for me to land a role weather it may be a junior full stack or software engineering. AI has been one of the biggest help in my career but nowadays it's basically scaring me to the point that I'm afraid for my future career, with everything said, I just want to ask you guys on your thoughts on this industry that I am in, will it even last for 5 years? Was software development a bad choice from the very start? Because by the looks of it software engineering/development in my perspective as a junior is a downward spiral to unemployment. I can't even imagine what would the next 5 - 15 years would be. Hope to hear your insights guys!

discussion How do you screen resumes and portfolios in the AI era?

Lots of resumes are already AI generated. People can make their projects using AI. They also bluff on their resumes and exaggerate details. In addition, online interviews can let you cheat with AI using another gadget.

How do you screen effectively while accounting for all of that?

Job Advice My AI Development Learnings seems doesn't pays off

Laid off about 6 months ago after 5yrs as a Senior Backend Developer in a startup company, since then I’ve been upskilling in AI development: building LLM-powered apps, polishing my CV and portfolio, and using AI as a coding assistant for front-end work.

Despite all of that, it hasn’t paid off yet. I’m still not getting traction with employers, and my savings are draining fast. Has anyone else here gone through something similar, or put in the work upskilling in AI and still struggled to get results? I’d like to hear how the market looks for you.

discussion Some tech people say AI won’t take your job but refusing to use it might. Not sure anymore.

From the title itself, I know i get your point at isa rin ako sa mga naniniwala / naniwala, pero as time goes by hindi na.

AI is getting better and better :(

I just want to transition into another niche maybe another tech thing that it won't be affected by AI mostly and really needed an orchestrator for a long time :( but not sure what it is or there won't be any ?

I am a software engineer for more than 5 years and in the past 2 years i've been deep into AI, implementing RAG, MCP servers, creating AI data pipelines and Automations., Agentic AI etc.

But.. i don't feel safe here. :( in a year or few maybe itong job na tong magiging normal nalang sa mga tao, na makiapginteract sa AI, do this for my business and do that without the need of us software engineers.

:( :( i get other people na magkakaroon ng bugs and so on, dahil sa AI, security breaches and all. but dude AI is getting better and it can fix it in few seconds/minutes.

Kayo ano plano nyo?

kasi ako, i'm already turning 30 and i don't know what path should i go,
iniisip ko nalang mag abroad at mamitas ng strawberry sa new zealand, atleast yun wala pang AI na gagawa nun, machines parin gagawa nun for a long run not unless maging robot na ung mamimitas which is matagal pa imo.

I want your thoughts.

programming Open-source tool that turns GCash/GoTyme/GrabPay statements into checked CSVs. Looking for contributors to add BPI, BDO, Maya and others

I got tired of manually input my GCash transactions one by one in a money tracking app, so I wrote statement-etl-ph. It's a Python CLI that reads your statement PDF and writes a CSV, or a file you can import straight into Money Manager.

What it supports now:

  • GCash transaction history PDF
  • GoTyme statement of account PDF
  • GrabPay Wallet payments, read from Grab e-receipt emails
  • Optional Gmail fetch: it finds statement emails and only accepts ones with a passing DKIM signature from the bank's own domain

Where I need help: more banks. Each bank is one module in src/statement_etl_ph/banks/. The shared pdf_geometry helpers already handle clustering words into rows and finding the money columns, so a new bank is mostly its own vocabulary: header names, date formats and what the totals rows are called. If you have BPI, BDO, Maya, UnionBank, Metrobank, Security Bank, or a credit card statement, you're the person who can add it.

You never share your statement. You run a small script on your own machine, note where the columns sit (the x positions, never the values), and build a synthetic test PDF with made-up rows. The step-by-step guide is in docs/add-a-bank.md.

Other ways to help:

  • Try it on your own GCash or GoTyme statement and report anything that doesn't parse. The issue form only asks for the debug output and a description of the layout with invented values. Please don't post screenshots of real statements.
  • Review the parsing and reconciliation logic. More eyes on money code is always good.

Repo: https://github.com/Jomaries777/statement-etl-ph
Install: pipx install statement-etl-ph

It runs entirely on your own computer and never uploads your statements, passwords or transactions anywhere. The only official copies are the GitHub repo above and statement-etl-ph on PyPI.

I also have a code that also fetches the pdf statements from Gmail, parse the transactions and import the transactions in YNAB. However, it is still in my private repository. I'll release the code soon in the same repo.

Feedback welcome, especially from anyone who has fought with bank PDFs before.

How do you even tell if someone knows what theyre doing kung puro AI ang laman ng portfolio?

May ganito ba kayong problem sa industry niyo? How do you vet applicants in the era of AI?

EDIT: It seems people are under the impression that I'm against AI. I honestly do not care if people use AI. We have this limitation in our company because publishers don't want to risk copyright issues that comes with AI

EDIT #2: Looks like the common reply is just use AI. Again, It's not a choice. The people paying our bills will not allow AI. I'm mostly looking for advice on how to vet applicants.

Show Case I made an app that makes me get up from bed and actually wake up

Post image
0 Upvotes

It’s called Wake TF Up (Please if anyone have better name suggest it I really suck at this area). Print the QR code and put it somewhere far from your bed, like the bathroom or your sink. When the alarm rings, you have to get up and scan it to turn it off.

Made for anyone who keeps hitting snooze.

Short background: I am terrible at waking up. Sometimes i unconsciously turn off my alarm and I thought, why not make an alarm that will force me to stand up and wake myself up

  • QR challenge or normal dismiss and snooze
  • Repeat schedules and 10 built-in alarm sounds
  • Import your own audio
  • Light and dark themes

Cost: Free, no ads or paid features. Optional Ko-fi support.

Download: https://github.com/Ecila-01/Wake-TF-Up/releases/latest

Feedback greatly appreciated

Sa mga gumagamit ng PHP dito sa kanilang mga production websites.. please update your php version in your servers to the latest released patch versions.. There's a critical security vulnerability that allows someone to have Remote code access on your site and you should take this seriously. If you can't upgrade PHP versions, it would be better to stop your site in production until you upgraded your PHP versions..

Keep your site secure otherwise you're cook if someone sniff on your site and .

discussion Ako lang ba, I can write a proper code but I am having a hard time explaining it technically.

Hi!

Web Developer here, worked for 3 years.

I am having a dillema sa career ko right now napapaisip tuloy ako if I have skipped a step sa pagiging isang Programmer/Developer.

I can write codes naman, efficiently. But I am sometimes having a hard time explaining it technically, lalo na kapag gagamit ng terms and when asked sa interview questions (technically)

I am also having an impostor syndrome when paired or next to other programmers.

Ako lang ba ang nakaranas neto or nararanasan to?

advice Any Filipino developers here who transitioned from coding to running their own software business?

Hi everyone!

I'm a Software Developer from Mindanao and previously worked professionally as a .NET developer.

Recently, I've been exploring entrepreneurship by developing software solutions for local businesses.

One thing I've realized is that building software is very different from getting people to actually use it.

You can spend months developing features, improving the UI, and fixing bugs, but none of that automatically means businesses will adopt your product.

Some business owners prefer their existing manual processes, while others are hesitant to try something unfamiliar.

It made me realize how important customer validation, communication, and understanding actual business operations are.

For developers here who have built software for real businesses, what was the biggest challenge you encountered when introducing your product to customers?

I'd love to hear your experiences, especially from fellow Filipino developers.

discussion I'm almost 30 and changing career

I graduated in Aero Engineering in PHin 2019, and went

straight to flying. Present time, doing my training as a flight instructor but realized I hate teaching, or should I say my confidence shuts down when demo teaching and can't move forward for personal reasons. But anyway, of course a red flag for not having any job at all, no experience, zero. Too privileged and I hate it.

°Am I too late?

° Is getting a course in free online Harvard Lessons a

good start?

° I'm planning on joining a coding boot camp?

°any suggestion on how to start? For basics, like vocabulary, jargons, etc. (I see freecodecamp as suggestions)
