Best gyms in Overland Park/Olathe/Lenexa area? Looking for recommendations!

Hey everyone! I’m looking for some gym recommendations around the Overland Park, Olathe, or Lenexa area.
I currently work in Corporate Woods in Overland Park and plan on moving somewhere in the OP/Olathe/Lenexa area within the next few months. Ideally, I’d like to find a gym that’s within about 10–15 minutes of work and relatively close to wherever I end up living.
My biggest priority is a good weightlifting setup with plenty of benches, dumbbells, cable machines, and other equipment. I typically work out around 4:30–5:30 PM on weekdays, so I’d really like somewhere that isn’t insanely crowded during those hours or where I’m constantly waiting for equipment.
I’d also love a gym with a basketball court, pool, hot tub, or sauna, but those are more of a bonus than a necessity.
As far as pricing goes, I’d ideally like to stay under $80/month, preferably cheaper, but I’m willing to pay a little more if the amenities and overall experience are worth it.
For those of you who work out in the area, what gyms would you recommend as the best bang for your buck? I’m especially interested in hearing about how crowded they get after work, equipment availability, cleanliness, and whether you think the membership is worth the price.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Park Recommendations for Toddler Age

I currently live in Lenexa and have explored many different parks in the area for my 4 year old. However, each park we go to (except Sar Ko Park) is always void of any other kids. Therefore, I have started venturing to other parks. Mill Creek park in Shawnee has lots of activity, but the kids are typically older. I did recently discover Bluejacket Park and each time I visited, there were multiple kids similar in age to my 4 year old to play with. Are there any other recommendations for similar parks somewhat close to 95th street?

P.S. I've tried Strang Park but it gets too crowded

Possible move to overland park

Hello futue fellow kansas people! My family and I are looking to move to Overland Oark, mostly because of school districts and greenery. I am curious if any redditors have a young family and can share their experiences. I am a little stressed, because its a new location that I am mostly unfamiliar with, but otherwise excited!

Looking for photographer recommendations for engagement photos

Pretty straight forward, like the title states.

Looking to have some outdoor engagement/wedding invite pictures taken in a couple weeks once the trees start turning. We're wanting somewhere fall-y/scenic in the JoCo area (we live in Stanley). We like Heritage Park or the Arboretum.

Anybody have any good recommendations/places I can see their work?

Thanks!!

Farmers Market Hunt Game

I misjudged and am very, very, elevated. I will be going to the Farmers Market in an hour with a list of ingredients for an amazing slow cooker recipe. None of that matters for this prize.

If anyone identifies me at the market and says ‘nice (anything I am wearing/holding). where did you find the orange soda?’ I will give you $100. I am very not elevated looking I think, so this shouldn’t cost me anything but will add a nice little boost to the morning.

I’ll take a pov photo when I get there for proof of my reality meeting yours. Will post as a reply.

Sober girly groups?!

I am having a hard time finding female friends who are on a sober journey like I am and it’s become quite isolating and depressing. Just wondering if there’s a group of girls that either get together or just have a way of communicating together for support in Johnson county!

Sincerely,
The girl trying not to lose her spark

Apartment search help, southwest of KC along I35

I'll be relocating from out of state in January for a position in New Century and would really appreciate recommendations for apartment complexes that we should consider or avoid.

We are looking roughly near I35 between exits 222 and 228, but want keep around a 30 minute commute to New Century while living closer to the city.

It would also be helpful to know how bad I35 south of KC gets at rush hour. Coming from ATL, our peak hours are 2-3 time longer than driving any other time of day, which would radically change our search radius if similar.

CPR certification

Recently got a new job and had to get BLS certified by AHA. I had no idea there was a little BLS lab tucked away in a salon studio just off metcalf. Anyway it’s called surefire and pretty much the smoothest I’ve ever been able to get a recert. They sent me a discount code. It was 89 to get recertification but they sent me $15 “for friends” so here ya go friends. https://sl1nk.com/3asn93n

Small Observation

I've gotten 2 FedEx deliveries this week and the packages were place at my garage and not the front porch.

Has any one else had this happen?

I think it would give better access to porch thieves.

Adding onto Monday's post Kansas Voters got rid of the Klan in 1924 : r/KState

To truly understand the Klan, you only need to know this:

It’s a Constitution-violating group of masked thugs who want to live in a different country. This is not an exaggeration, and it’s obvious when you consider their wish to suppress, violate or eliminate the following areas of the Constitution:

-       Article VI: They wanted a religious test for people to hold office
-       1st Amendment: Demanded people they attacked say nothing, or worse would come
-       2nd: Wanted to strip gun rights from blacks, Jews, Catholics, and other groups
-       4th: Felt entitled to search others’ homes and seize their property
-       5th: Surpassed due process and double jeopardy by taking the law into their own hands
-       7th: Instead of a jury, they wanted to rule on matters
-       8th: Exercised cruel and unusual punishment
-       9th: Expulsion of rights, such as privacy and travel
-       10th: Attempted to strip states of their sovereignty by becoming their ruling force

o  Amendments 1-10 are also The Bill of Rights. They don’t believe in them

-       13th: Slavery was abolished via ratification of this amendment in 1865. The Klan was formed in 1865. This was not a coincidence
-       14th: They were against rights of citizenship and equal protection
-       15th: Wanted race to be a determining factor in voting rights

It cannot be overstated that the Klan will always, and only, be a rotten body of un-American activity. They do not respect the law – in letter or spirit – or its history.

What so many people supporting William A. White for governor in 1924 wanted was to get rid of masked gang members messing up their towns. They wanted them off the streets and away from public office.

Roe Park Assault

Update: Overlan Park Police verified the assault was by a man on Oct 19 12:30pm at Roe Park.

Has anyone heard of a female assault at Roe Park in the last couple of days? There was a post this morning on Ring that this occurred yesterday and has happened more than once. I won't go into the details but if true it needs to be reported on the news to make the public aware.

BV School SPED funding red signs - South OP

I wasn't able to snap a picture this morning but noticed a few red signs w/ white lettering in the medians around South OP that are pointing to larger political signs, they say something along the lines of "Won't fully fund BV Sped >> (pointing to the anti education candidate)" does anyone know who is responsible for these signs? I'd love to throw some cash their way for more of them, and support the cause in any other way I can!

Possibly moving to the KC metro

Hey All,

My little family and I are checking out OP this weekend from CO. My husband and I have been there before and really loved the town. We are visiting because we want a town that we can grow into that's safe, with good schools and a wonderful community feel. It's getting insanely expensive where live in northern Colorado and we can't see us saving for our kiddos if we stay here. How do you all like living in OP? Great for families and small children? We have two toddlers currently. Also, we are Originally from California so we have no clue about severe weather except from what we've experienced in CO (which was only a hail storm here and there).

Thanks for your input!

Overland Park just cut plate data retention from a year to 30 days. The next chief could undo it without a vote.

I want to start off by giving credit where its due. On October 14, OPPD presented an updated license plate reader (ALPR) policy to the Council's Public Safety Committee, and it's one of the stronger local policies we've seen. That's largely Chief Doreen Jokerst's doing. Two years into the job, she cut retention, sought outside input (the ACLU of Kansas called the result a significant step forward), and asked the vendor to build an alert for repeated searches of the same plate after seeing how misuse cases played out nationally. She also told the committee she'd never expand the system without making sure everyone understands what's happening. She's earned real goodwill. The question is what happens after her.

What changed:

- Plate data is now kept 30 days (it was a year, and two years before 2026)

- Facial recognition is prohibited

- Every search needs a case number and a specific reason. "Investigation" or "routine patrol" doesn't count.

- Free speech and religious activity can't be monitored

- Sharing with other agencies is paused until formal agreements are written

- Misuse gets referred for discipline, and to the DA if it's criminal

- A public dashboard and an alert for repeated searches of the same plate are coming in 2027

The department also shared real OP cases where plate readers helped, including finding a missing person. Useful tools tend to grow. Asked whether she wants to expand coverage, the Chief said, "I think eventually." That's exactly why the rules should be set now.

So what's the problem?

All of this lives in internal department policy. Retention changed twice this year, both times in the right direction, and the Council voted on neither. Today's rules are good because today's chief chose them.

A few other gaps:

- The department audits itself. When Seattle's Inspector General reviewed police searches on Axon, the same platform OP uses, about 47% of 2025 searches had no reason given.

- Shared data may not stay protected. Once our data goes to another agency, our 30-day limit only protects our own copy.

- Not every camera follows these rules. Police can search privately owned Flock cameras around the city, and where those cameras go and how long they keep data is up to the businesses that own them.

- Residents can't check. Kansas law lets police withhold plate data. If you suspect an officer you used to date is searching your plate, your only option is filing a complaint with the same department.

We've put together a proposal to make these rules last by putting them in city ordinance: Council approval for changes, independent review of the search logs, minimum standards for anyone OP shares data with, and public reporting on how the systems are used. It doesn't turn anything off. It locks in what Chief Jokerst got right.

Full breakdown: https://opvoice.org/news/2026/alpr-policy-update/

Our proposal: https://opvoice.org/issues/resident-data/proposal/

Curious where people land on this. Should rules like these be set by the Council, or is department policy enough?
