Help post Unusually stinky boy?
Lol, I feel silly posting this but just had to ask this sub for some advice. I have 5 cats and none of them are stinky except for this orange boy. I adopted him in June. His breath is abnormally stinky and so is his butt (when it’s anywhere in your vicinity you can distinctly smell it radiating off of him). I’m not sure why he’s such a stinky man. All of my cats are on the same diet and don’t have this issue. He regularly grooms, uses the litter box normally etc.
I’ve put some unscented “waterless” foam shampoo on him which helped for a day, then he was stinky again. It’s primarily just his breath and booty though. I’m just curious if anyone else has this issue? or if anyone knows why this might be? Thanks

Help post What will they eat!??
Having issues with my two new adorable boys who are under 6 months old. The black one, Noctis, has so far been eating everything from boiled chicken, assorted wet foods, probiotic from the vet and dry kibble. The other boy, Brimstone, will barely eat anything. I’ve seen him eat a tiny bit of dry food but he seems disgusted by it. And then yesterday I boiled him a fresh whole chicken and gave him a serving of that, and he ate so so much of it. Unfortunately he can’t live off that. He rejects all other foods and the probiotic. Even greenies kitten treats. Today I tried giving me leftover cold chicken with the probiotic on it and some dry food and he wouldn’t touch it. Just kind of smelled and licked it and no eating. So then I tried to give him just the leftover chicken again with nothing else in it and he won’t have any of that. But then he went right to my bowl of yogurt and was checking that out but I wouldn’t let him eat it. Is it possible he will only eat fresh boiled chicken? What do you feed your kittens, the picky ones? I’m worried he’ll keep starving himself if I don’t figure out the right thing for him.

Help post New Parent To Two OSH
We just got our two new boys in yesterday, aged 2.5 months old. When they got here they instantly went to hide together under a dresser and one meowed ALOT like he was an alarm going off. They don’t stop hiding under furniture since they have come here however found their litter just fine and used it. One is eating a lot of food and the other is barely eating creating an imbalance and they want nothing to do with us. I put toys out for them and they take them and drag them back to their hiding spot.
We put them in a play enclosure tent thing today with their food so they would eat and we let them out after we saw them both eating, however it was a little hard to get them out from beneath the dresser they like to hide under. No honking, just one cat that meows a bit and the other is actually a very quiet cat who barely makes sounds. If we look at them too much they go back to hiding. Is this all normal? How do I help them feel more at home and safe with us?

Help post What colour is she?
I work in a vet practice and I have adopted this lovely girl who was given up by her owner as they could no longer care for her as she has medical needs. I think she is a ticked tabby but I am not sure on colour variation. Thanks

Help post I think my foreign white siamese cat hates me
Hello ! ^w^ (pls excuse my bad english)
Ive adopted a beautiful foreign white the 2 august and he is still so scared of me. He have 6 mouths. He does everything but only when im not there, he eats, but only if i leave. He use his litter box, when im not there. My breeder told me to try to play with since he is a kitten but he is too scared. When i enter the room he hides quickly, even if i try my best to not make fast movment. I know he is scared but i do not touch or take him in my arms. But when i got him he hide in some dangerous place and i had to pick him up, and i think it shocked him. Tho he is docile, he doesnt attack he just want to flee. I still love him with all my hearts, and i just want him to feel safe, I dont know if there somthing i can do to make him feel more confidence ? Ty for the people trying to help me 🫶

Help post Eye goop & sneezing
Picked this little guy up from the airport 2 weeks ago, and I've been trying not to jump to conclusions about anything because he's obviously adjusting to a whole new house and new animals now too. Since day one, when we picked him up he had a pretty good little bit of greenish/yellow goop in his eye but I assumed it's probably because he was so stressed from the flight, he would sneeze here and there but I justified it because once we got home he had been hiding under my bed & it can get dusty under there. I took him in for a check up at the vet 2 days after we brought him home and addressed these concerns, but the vet said it's likely due to stress and the dust under my bed.
Fast forward to now, 2 weeks later and he still gets the eye boogers every other day, sometimes multiple times in a day after I've already cleaned them out from his eyes. He still sneezes, not constantly but enough that it is concerning for me. It even almost sounds like hes got a little wheeze at times but it's so hard to tell if I'm just being a helicopter mom or not. Part of me thinks I'm worrying over nothing, but another part of me is afraid of not catching the symptoms until its too late type of thing. And yes lol, this is my first OSH. I will be taking him back to the vet if it gets any worse, but I was just hoping to hear input from anyone else who has experienced this with their oriental. Thanks in advance 🫶

Help post Cat sitting during long vacation - please advise
Me and my partner will be leaving for almost 3 weeks in November and wonder whether having a cat sitter come in every day during weekdays (for 1-1,5 hours) and our friends or family dropping by during the weekends (for longer periods) would be enough to have our OSHs happy.
We have a wonderful brown tortoiseshell girl (9 months) and are expecting a red point Siamese boy in September (4 months). They will have around two months to get to know each other before our vacation.
There’s really no good alternative for having the cat sitter coming by, except maybe for leaving them with our friends or family (probably two different homes), so that they’d have to change environments.
Any experience with leaving your OSHs for longer periods?

Help post HELP 🥵
My Oriental Shorthair cat has a constant hunger issue (a hunger that makes her very, very restless), she has a lot of gas in her stomach (she farts 🤢), she poops a lot (it was hard before, now it's soft), and she vomits frequently during this period... Could it be the change of season? Or is it because she was recently spayed? Or do you think she might have some health issue?

Help post Very vocal OSH, or anxiety?
Hey guys, trying to determine if what my cat is going through sounds like anxiety or not. I posted in another subreddit but figured maybe I should get some perspectives from other OSH owners since these cats are quite unique’
I have a very vocal 1.5 year old cat. He is an oriental shorthair, which is known to be already vocal. However, I have second oriental shorthair and while he is vocal it’s nowhere near as vocal as my youngest boy, Zuko.
I’ve been beginning to suspect that he may have anxiety? He will randomly start yowling at the top of his lungs all over the house, and no matter how much I try to get his attention and comfort him he won’t stop. It gets even worse when the doors are closed. I’ll just be closing the door for a second to go to the washroom, and he immediately starts yowling like crazy. It doesn’t sound like his normal meowing, it sounds like very panicked screaming. When we go to bed at night and have to kick him out (he won’t allow us to sleep otherwise) he will yowl and scream at the door. He usually does stop after 10 minutes of ignoring him, but I hate that he sounds so panicked.
We live in an apartment, so I’m terrified that the neighbours will complain soon. He gets along very well with our other cat, and I’ve tried playing with him more. I also have been unemployed since August so I’ve been spending so much time at home with him so he is very rarely ever alone for long. But the panicked yowling hasn’t stopped. It’s not constant yowling thankfully, but it happens periodically throughout the day. I love it when cats are vocal but like I said, it’s not his normal meowing, he sounds very panicked and distressed. It seems to happen more when his favourite human, my partner, is gone.
Does this sound like anxiety, or is it just a very vocal OSH? Has anyone else experienced this with their OSH, and if so what has helped?

Help post First days
Hey everyone!
There’s a lot of info, sure. I just wanted to ask how was it for you: your first kitten’s first days at your place. She’s 7.5 weeks old at this point. A bit early, but the breeder was a bit insistent, so we caved in. I don’t think this is right, so I won’t recommend them if anyone will ask.
We got her on the yesterday’s evening, so far everything has been uneventful except for a “number one” on the couch, but that’s alright.
She got acquainted with the litter, and we’ve mixed in a handful of used one from her breeder. Actually haven’t produced any results yet and I’m very eager to see them. Ate a bag of wet food, didn’t really see her drink yet. Breeder claimed she’s scratcher/litter trained and eats wet food/raw chicken.
She’s active and curious, but also afraid. Almost always she wants to be under the couch in the pillows in the most “dark small and safe” place in my apartment (it’s really safe, for those concerned- don’t worry).
Most of the time she’s not sleeping - she’s quite vocal, especially when she loses sight of us, or if she can hear one of us going away in the other room. She’s purring and playful during interactions.
Now! getting to the questions: 1) How long is she going to be THIS vocal? I understand the reasons and mostly fine with it. How much did it take your OSH to undergo separation? 2) How was the litter situation in the first days..? 3) Any advice would be appreciated. I owned a cat earlier, but I was of single-digit age during her first days in the family and frankly not the one taking care of her. Now I live alone and have to do all by myself/with my partner.

Help post Discovering Dominique's Background
I adopted Dominique Deveraux in June. She's 4 years, 8 lbs. I was told that she was a domestic Shorthair and had medium energy. Also she didn't get along with other cats because she demanded solo human attention.
I got her home and I realize she's different than my previous Black shorthair (he's happily still around living with my former spouse). Her face and ears are very angular. Her energy is pretty high and she's extremely vocal. Also I have to get a pet sitter if I'm gone for more than an hour (I work from home so that doesn't happen much).
Obviously she's isn't purebred but given certain breeds have issues as they get older I want to make sure I'm aware beyond what I'm looking for with a domestic shorthair.
Edit: for those that requested a image that shows her body shape - https://imgur.com/a/pSTv7dN

Help post Gingivitis in my 1.5 year old? :(
So I’ve had my boy for 1.5 years now.. He’s never had an issue with eating but the other day I was playing around with him and noticed some red on his gums. I sat him down to take a closer look and noticed his tiny front teeth are inflamed. :( he’s currently on Royal Canin Siamese tailored food, they are bigger pieces so I know he is scraping his teeth, but how can I address this now to reduce the risk of having to remove them? :( I have another 2.5 yr old OSH boy, with the cleanest mouth I’ve ever seen. Sadly I didn’t know they were prone to mouth problems.

Help post Just got my first OSH
He’s so perfect I love him, he’s just under 4 months old. having a hard time getting him to be comfortable around my other pets but it’s only been three days so I guess that’s normal?
I have a 10 year old teacup yorkie and a one year old Maine coon. My yorkie loves cats so she’s fine but the kitten is growling when she gets to close, not every time tho they have cuddled a few times already so not sure why he’s being so flip floppy with her. My Maine coon on the other hand.. we haven’t introduced them to each other at all, we’ve been doing sent exchange, gave my OSH my Maine coons toys, bed and blankets so he gets use to his sent and I gave my Maine coon my OSH sweater and carrier he’s smelled them but when he hears the OSH meow from the other room he gets all scared then angry, he saw the new kitten a few times from across the room when the kitten got out (I opened the door to the guest room and he ran out) they locked eyes and froze, I put the kitten back in his room but then my Maine coon hissed at anyone who go near him including my dog which he’s never done before, he calmed down after a bit but I’m not sure how long I’m supposed to keep them separated for.. what if they never get along? What can I do to help them all get use to each other without putting any of them at risk of injury?

Help post Looking for OSH breeders in CA
My wife and I are looking for breeders in CA - either for a pair of kittens or to ‘adopt’ a retiree. We previously lived on the east coast so all our knowledge is based out there, so many scam pages and questionable FB accounts out there it’s quite hard to sift through. Any recommendations would be most welcome!

Help post Advice needed for new cat dad
Hi guys,
I’m 24 and live alone in a 2 bedroom apartment and am wanting to adopt a beautiful oriental baby. However I am concerned as I work 9-5 and would be out from about 8-6pm mon-fri and would worry the kitten would get lonely knowing how social they are. One breeder I am in contact with suggested I get 2 kittens so they can keep each other company while I’m gone. Any advice appreciated as I’m not sure what to do as I really want one and know I am ready but don’t want to put it in a vulnerable position if I’m not home enough. Attached pic of my sisters oriental, Wybie :)

Help post She's biting me at night
Need some help with behavioural problems of my 8 month old OSH. Recently she's started to wake me up at night by biting my face and arms. It's done playfully and does not hurt, and is usually accompanied by bringing a toy. I guess that's a way for her to say that she wants to play and get attention.
So far I've tried doing nothing and not reacting, but I can't really let her bite my face until she gets bored. Now I just put her out of the room and shut the door when the biting starts, but I am not sure that she understands why I do this.
Has anyone had a similar experience? By the way she is not attacking to my partner; and we do try to only use toys for play time (no hands)

Help post Am I fit for an oriental shorthair?
Please let me know what is usually overlooked with oriental shorthairs behaviourally, health-wise, anything! I would like to be very prepared. I don't want the excitement of adopting a cat (or two) to cloud my judgement.
I've been interested in adopting a cat for a while. I live in a small apartment with two people, aged 19 and 21. I'm 19 and have been living out of my parents' place for a year now. The main reason i'be been looking into getting a cat is largely due to my over-dependence on people, and i'd like to channel that energy into a pet instead (in hopes it'd be healthier for myself and others). I'm hoping for a cuddly and affectionate cat (as most do) to keep my brain occupied as I have a history with depression and anxiety (note: my depression can be overwhelming, but not debilitating in the sense where I necessarily struggle with everyday tasks).
I know that oriental shorthairs are incredibly social critters, and require more maintenance than the average domestic shorthair. I've been made aware of dental/joint issues. My main concern is that I am away for work for around 8hours in a day, working anywhere from 28-40 hour weeks (depending on how business is). I've heard that oriental cats can behaviourally resemble dogs, which I am very familiar with. Cats on the other hand, i have less experience in taking care of- however I am not entirely unfamiliar. I have taken into consideration for accumulative costs regarding the standard domestic cat- however i'm unsure of how much more expensive it will be to own an oriental shorthair.
Due to the friendly nature of this breed, i've been considering adopting a bonded pair, ideally to keep themselves occupied and stimulated while I am away at work. I'd like to know your guys' thoughts! Please let me know if there is anything i'm missing.

Help post Random/Pattern Vomiting
Hello! I have a 5yo Peterbald girl, and she's a puker. I've had her into the vet and physically, she's fine. It seems to go in cycles. I've fed her Wellness Core (the turkey one) for years and recently transitioned her to the fish formula thinking she could have a chicken allergy. After getting her on the fish formula for two weeks, I gave her a packet of wet food that had chicken in it, and she vomited it up almost immediately.
She has different vomiting "styles", if you will. She will regurgitate kibble where it's dry and hasn't been in her system long, she will vomit up partially digested kibble, and then sometimes in the middle of the night she will vomit up clear/slightly yellowish liquid. Every few months when the weather changes, she will get nauseous, let out a mrrrooww and vomit her whole stomach contents and then not eat for the rest of the day. I switch her to canned food for a few days and then she's back to normal - no vomiting at all - for a few weeks/months. Then it starts back up again. We've had rounds of Cerenia, which has helped but she seems to get over it pretty quickly and it takes a long time to get her into the vet (scheduling).
The last time I switched her to canned food, I was supplementing it with Instinct chicken bone broth, and she broke out in hives (she's flocked/chamois) and scratched it and gave herself a bacterial infection. A round of steroids and antibiotics took care of that, but that's when I suspected the chicken allergy and switched her to fish. This round of vomiting, I picked up Instinct LID rabbit pouches and she has eaten a few of those so far with no issue. The only treats we give her a freeze dried minnows and salmon, and sometimes a Churu.
Can cats be sensitive to barometric pressure? Is there something else (hydrolyzed protein) or a different brand of food I should try? Should I push for more testing at the vet? There are long stretches that she's just fine and then another round starts up again. I was up with her twice last night for the clear vomit. Our previous vet (retired) said that the clear vomit could be because her stomach is empty and she got nauseous and to try a snack before bedtime, so I'll try that tonight. Any other suggestions? How often do your cats puke?

Help post Introducing kitten to oriental
I’ve introduced cats 3 times before so I’m not new to it but I’ve heard that orientals can either love the new cat or hold a big grudge? Anyone here introduced a new kitten to orientals/siamese. I’m considering a new kitten as his main playmate had unforeseen circumstances and no longer is with us. He is currently a week over 7 months and I’m considering a kitten in like 3-5 months from now. He will then be about a fresh adult. How do they play? The guy I had before was a Maine coon and he was very rough and bully playstyle, kind of like a king lol. How is playstyle between two oriental type cats, is it more intense? At the moment he’s 24/7 on me, do they spend less time on you when multiple or is it double heaters on your lap?

Help post How to teach my OSH to be quiet when my flatmate wakes up at 5 a.m.?
I have a very active and SUPER vocal 1-year-old male OSH cat, and a new flatmate who lives on a quite early schedule. She wakes up for work as early as 5 a.m. some weeks (alternating those with 6:30 a.m. weeks). We share a 2-bedroom apartment with a living room, and whenever my cat hears her wake up, he starts yelling loudly, seeking attention and ready to start his day.
He’s a very loud cat, so earplugs don’t help me. I wonder if neighbors can hear him behind the wall. It’s impossible to sleep through his intermittent yelling for the 1.5-2 hours that she’s getting ready for work.
I work from home and start at 9 a.m. I can’t afford just being deprived of those 3 hours of sleep.
Is there a way to train the cat to sleep through her early wake-ups? She ignores him in the morning as per my recommendation, so I hope that eventually he learns there’s no point in yelling until I wake up properly—but idk how long it takes.
Has anyone advice or any solutions to the situation that I might have overlooked?

Help post Advice about spraying
Hi all, I haven't been here for awhile. Here's a picture of Romeo! Anyway, he has been spraying in the house. I have feliway diffusers around and a calm house. We have another cat, Nacho, but they love each other. Romeo is taking kitty Prozac transdermally. I think the pill works better but I can't get him to take it. He also has hyperthyroidism and I do medicine in the other ear for that. Any advice on stopping the spraying? It's horrible. The thing that I think makes it worse is the neighbor cats. Romeo goes out in my yard and he loooooves it. He would lounge around out there and explore the yard all day if he could. But neighbor cats come and spray and hang out regularly. I know not letting him out might help but he would be an absolute nightmare and scream at me all day if I didn't. Any advice besides not letting him out? Thank you 😊
