Best introduction song to Opeth?
In my opinion, it's The Lotus Eater. It has the elements that make Opeth great, but it's also quite pacy, which admittedly is not something you can say about many of their songs.
I also specifically don't think Burden is a good intro. Sure, it's pretty accessible, but to the point of being unrepresentative of their work.

General / Discussion Opeth: A Lexical Analysis
Hi everyone!
After seeing all the SORROW memes on Reddit, I decided to try and find out what words were actually the most prevalent in Opeth's vocabulary.
I used a corpus analysis tool called SketchEngine, which allows you, among other things, to analyze the vocabulary of a set of texts.
I created a corpus based on the lyrics provided by Genius.
It includes 126 songs, which amounts to a total 18217 words.
---
The slideshow hereabove includes:
- Top 50 Nouns
- Top 100 Nouns
- Top 100 Keywords
- (words that are relatively rare in English and therefore make Opeth's vocabulary stand out)
- Top 100 Adjectives
- Top 100 Verbs
- Top 100 Adverbs
- s o r r o w
- 28 hits in total, the most sorrowul album being Watershed with 8 occurences
I've also made an imgur album that includes longer lists (of all nouns, keywords, adjectives, verbs and adverbs) if you want to dig a little deeper: Opeth: A Lexical Analysis (continued)
---
A few remarks:
- Only studio albums are included.
- Bonus tracks written by Opeth are included, but covers are not.
- Swedish lyrics have been removed so they wouldn't pollute the results.
- (I used the English version of the album In cauda venenum, even though the original version is technically the Swedish one)
- The sections that are in "backwards English", like the backwards speech in Hessian Peel, for example, have been reversed into regular English.
---
Thanks for reading!

General / Discussion Ophetian classical music?
Which classical pieces do you consider have some sort of "Ophetian" sound, although Mikael has never mentioned amongst his influences (as far as I know) names of classical musicians, I found that Opeth has some sort of impressionistic vibes in their harmony.
I saw a comment in Marrow of the Earth video that mentioned Erik Satie, and I couldn't but acknowledge it was right, the opening track Heritage had also a recognizable Satie influenced sound, although this later is jazzier.
The first track that came into my mind that could perfectly be the initial track of an Opeth album was Gnossiene if it was arranged for an acoustic guitar playinng chords, electric playing the melody with some occasional harmonies, bass, some remote strings or mellotron, and additional occasional ornaments like an ascending harp, and some background noises.
I would like to know what do you guys think, if there are other artists or pieces you consider have an Opeth like sound that could somehow be recognized as a direct or indirect influence on Opeth sound.

Sorceress Will O The Wisp
And you can never find the satisfaction
When you can't outgrow your false distractions
…
You know your soul is weighed
On the silver scale of deceit and lies
These verses, along with the song, break me in two. My soul aches with such deep sorrow. Mikael is an excellent artist—both in his poems and in the emotions he conveys through his songs. Thank you, Mikael; your solitude is not the only one. Lov U Opeth! 💚

General / Discussion Most fun acoustic parts to play on guitar
What are everyone’s favorite acoustic parts to play? I’ve recently been playing dirge for November intro and funeral portrait an unhealthy amount of times and looking to learn some other similar parts.

General / Discussion Opeth ruining other bands for me
I’ve known about Opeth for maybe 15 years now but I never really got into them. I got into them this year, speedrunnjng through their albums and I saw them live a few weeks ago (which was phenomenal, somehow they are even better live). My gripe is that other bands I usually listen to are boring me. Who can even get close to the complexities and depth of opeth’s compositions? Also, I know most songs are long but c’mon Mikael, we know they can be much longer.

Blackwater Park I have an addiction to playing Harvest on my acoustic
I won't lie, BWP isn't even my fave Opeth album but I swear to god, put me within reach of an acoustic guitar anywhere, no matter the context or what other discussions may be going on if it's at a party or something, I will uncontrollably borrow that guitar and get straight into that awesome intro. I love Harvest.

General / Discussion How has your favorite Opeth album changed over time?
I see a lot of “favorite” this and that posts but I’m more curious to hear about other fans’ journeys through the discography. I found Opeth through Blackwater Park and would’ve bet my house at the time - and even after listening to every album - that it would remain my favorite release of and for all time.
I’ve been through phases of jamming Reveries, Watershed, Deliverance, Still Life etc but through it all BWP was my favorite and obviously categorically the best.
But damn, I think I’m glad I never made that wager, because My Arms Your Hearse has lately been giving me that same feeling I remember from the very first time playing BWP.
I’ve been running it for weeks now and I still can’t get over it. I think April Ethereal, When and Demon of the Fall > Bleak, Drapery Falls and Blackwater Park. I never thought I’d say that.

Goblin
I couldn't find anything on the internet, but, as an Italian I couldn't not notice what could be a tribute to the italian prog legends with the same name. Do you know anything about this?
