Weet iemand hier iets meer van?

De lichten, apparaten en borden lijken continu aan te staan in het casino, terwijl het altijd gesloten is.

Waar kun je tegenwoordig in de omgeving oud ijzer inleveren tegen een vergoeding? Of is het niet meer interessant en kan ik het beter op laten halen?

Weet iemand of dit echt is of een scam?

Er was iemand net aan de deur met een badge die een verhaal vertelde dat ze 'net zoals vorig jaar met een aantal minimamoeders rondgaat om geld op te halen voor sinterklaas en kerstcadeautjes voor kinderen van minimagezinnen.' Was ook iets vaag met chocolade adventskalenders maar was met niet duidelijk of je die dan krege bij donatie of dat ze diekochten voor de kinders.

Ze vroeg €20 (voor 4 kinderen), dat vond ik wat veel dus heb haar contant wat minder gegeven want je bent een people pleaser of je bent het niet.

Meteen toen ze weg was valt natuurlijk op dat het allemaal wat vaag was en niet helemaal volgens hoe reguliere collectes lopen.

Is het een echt lokaal initiatief waarvan de mensen die het doen gewoon niet zo goed getraind zijn of ben ik ✨gescamd✨?

Wij zijn een groepje dertigers(v) die sinds een tijdje maandelijks samen komen om een boek te bespreken. Nu een paar leden wegens drukte of andere plannen niet meer aansluit hebben we plek voor een paar nieuwe leden.

We lezen voornamelijk fictie in diverse genres. Een aantal boeken die we dit jaar al gelezen hebben zijn: 

The comeback van Tommy Roos, Al het blauw van de hemel, Duizend schitterende zonnen, Morgen, en morgen en morgen, Oma heeft me gestuurd om te zeggen dat het haar spijt, Een haas in huis. Volgende boek op de planning is Ik zie je aan de overkant.

We nomineren om beurten een paar boeken en kiezen daaruit samen het volgende boek. We staan er vrij flexibel in. Kun je een keer niet dan is dat ook geen probleem.

To all those people, I am very happy to announce that for the very first time, I'm bringing Astronomy on Tap to Nijmegen. Astronomy on Tap (AoT) is a very popular, global initiative to know more about stars, our universe and our place in it in a fun atmosphere while enjoying beer!! More on Astronomy on Tap

There's going to be a Astronomy-themed Pubquiz (with prizes to be won!!) along with a talk by Prof. Heino Falcke (the person behind the first photograph of a Black Hole) talking about the beginning of the universe.

I am a 24-year-old student who has been in Nijmegen for a few months now. I come from the Middle East and have been trying to find a job for a while now. I know finding a job is not easy, but I am a bit at my wit's end, so I thought I'd use this place to vent and ask for help. As a full time masters' student I have a lot to do but since I don't have anyone supporting me financially. I do have the money needed for the visa, but that is a minimun estimate of the funds needed and will not be enough for all the school year. I need to find a job, and I have been looking, but it's been to no avail. As a non-EU student, I can only work 16 hours a week; my employer must be willing to get a work permit for me, and I can't work during the summer. I can't speak Dutch, I have been learning, but it's going very slowly, and I keep getting rejected by minimum work general job since employers don't want to go to the trouble of getting that permit. Everyone says that connections here are everything, and I have told the few people I could that I'm looking for a job, but to be honest, I am living a very lonely life since I have a lot of studying to do and can't afford to go out much since I'm always trying to save up for emergencies. I was wondering if anyone can help me out or give me tips. Ranting here once before helped me, so I thought I'd give it a shot. And please don't get me wrong. I love studying and living here. Life can be tough financially but here I get an education that I can't get at my own country. It is indeed my own choice to be here and I came here knowing well that it might be difficult and tight. I hope you're kind and see my point of view.

I was in Nijmegen as a student (2021-2023) and I’ve found myself visiting the city multiple times since I left. I’ve got to say that my time there was genuinely a highlight in my life. I can’t tell if it was the fact that as international students we were a quite tight knit community, or being at school at that time didn’t deny meeting locals and people from the city.

Looking back at it, the first few months were pretty easy to get to know the city and understand how life goes. I’ve lived in 8 countries in my life and multiple cities within each one, but Nijmegen is the one I always look back at as the first city I felt comfortable being in. Walking de Waal, catching a beer at Tierney’s, dancing at a Nyasa event, or simply chilling at Kronkel. Even the smaller cafes and walking around the center were calming and enjoyable because how small the city is that you’ll definitely run into someone you know. Such a lovely community.

I look forward to the day I move back to that small city (more of a town imo) in the south of NL and try to make something out of it. Who knows what the future has to hold?

Hi, mijn vriendin en ik (30 en 31) hebben recentelijk een huis gekocht in Nijmegen en we zoeken wat leuke nieuwe contacten in de omgeving. Het lijkt ons leuk om een gemengde eetclub/borrelclub te hebben met andere mensen of stelletjes (voorkeur voor twintigers en dertigers).

Het idee:
- Om de paar weken bij iemand thuis wat koken of eten bestellen, of gewoon de stad in voor een borrel.
- Laagdrempelig en ontspannen; je hoeft niet goed te kunnen koken. Het gaat vooral om nieuwe mensen leren kennen en gezelligheid.
- We staan ook open voor andere activiteiten, zoals samen naar festivals, dagjes weg of spelletjesavonden.

Lijkt het je wat om aan te haken? Stuur een berichtje, dan kijken we of er een leuke groep te vormen is.

Hello guys, sorry if it's a repetitive topic but we've been looking with my girlfriend since 2 months for apartment in Nijmegen or even in cities around it, I am starting to think we're looking wrong or something because I don't understand how we could find something ? Approximatively all the websites needs a subscriptions to even just contact the landlord (Rentumo... We're thinking of trying Kamernet cause someone advice us but it's expensive af, does anyone had chances with this or is it scam ?) and the only one website we have that is free (Parariua) we're always rejected cause too many people. I also tried posting on several Facebook group but most of the ads are big scam that ask for 200e in general just to "book an appointment" to an apartment that onvbiously doesn't even exist... So far my girlfriend will take a room in a AirBnb for the first month, but it's extremely expensive (1500e.....). It's not as if we have a lot of request or a small budget limit, we would like 40m2 at least and we have a budget of 1600e per month, is it too crazy ? Any suggestions on how to find ? Should we print paper work our request and numbers and put them on the street / at work place at this point ? I am very worried that we'll have to stay in AirBnB for months... We also asked for a guest house from her work at University but they said there is a 55 person waiting line (so basically this is not possible)... I also contacted sold rental agencies but they want either 900e (Funday) to find apartment for us or 1500e (123Wonen) to visit an apartment for us, it not worth it is it ??

I moved about a year ago to Arnhem after having lived in Nijmegen and Amsterdam. I have to say, I find making friends here a lot more difficult than in Amsterdam. It seems to be a bit hard to meet people in the same life phase and that you have stuff in common with.

I am currently in Arnhem, 29(F) and I would love to meet new girl friends to do spontaneous stuff with (go on a walk, grab a coffee, cook dinner together etc). What are some activites/things I could do to meet people?

I feel like I am quite social but sometimes I find it awkward to approach people at the gym/irl and strike a conversation. Trying to get over my anxiety though 😂 i feel like there are more events and opportunities happening around Nijmegen than Arnhem. I do have some friends in Nijmegen but I would also like to meet people i can do spontaneous stuff with in Arnhem without having to hop on a train.

Any recommendations?

Het lijkt me ontzettend leuk om een klein, gezellig boekenclubje te beginnen in Nijmegen! Ik (v29) lees zelf heel graag en zou het leuk vinden om mijn liefde voor boeken met anderen te delen, nieuwe verhalen te ontdekken en ondertussen ook nieuwe mensen te leren kennen.

Omdat ik lees dat er veel animo is voor boekenclubs en groepjes vaak snel vol zitten, neem ik graag zelf het initiatief om er eentje te starten.

Mijn favoriete genres zijn momenteel romantasy en new adult romance, maar ik ben ook steeds meer thrillers aan het ontdekken. Ik lees zowel Nederlandse als Engelse boeken. 📖

Ik lees graag boekenreeksen van Sarah J. Maas, Ana Huang, Elena Armas en Elle Kennedy, maar ook de boeken van Lily Gold. Onlangs heb ik voor het eerst een boek van Anya Niewierra gelezen, Het Bloemenmeisje, en ook De Hulp van Freida McFadden. Ik wil graag meer thrillers ontdekken. Op dit moment lees ik in deze oktobermaand De Heks van Freida McFadden en ben ik ook benieuwd naar andere thrillerschrijvers, zoals Karin Slaughter.

Hoe zie ik de boekenclub voor me?

☕ Een ontspannen zondagochtend: Mijn ideale bijeenkomst begint met een lekker ontbijtje of een goede kop koffie bij een gezellig koffietentje in het centrum van Nijmegen. Samen kletsen over het boek dat we gelezen hebben, favoriete personages, onverwachte plottwists en de thema's die ons aan het denken hebben gezet.

📚 Daarna misschien nog even de stad in: Bijvoorbeeld lekker rondstruinen door een boekenwinkel of gewoon nog even gezellig verder kletsen.

🌷 Eens per maand of per twee maanden: Geen drukke agenda of allerlei verplichtingen. Gewoon een moment om naar uit te kijken. Ik ben zelf een echte vroege vogel, maar sta ook open voor een gezellige vrijdagavondborrel met boeken!

📖 Samen boeken ontdekken: We kunnen bijvoorbeeld om de beurt een boek kiezen. Het lijkt me juist leuk om af en toe verrast te worden door iets wat ik zelf misschien niet zo snel zou oppakken.

💕 Een klein groepje: Ik denk aan maximaal 6 vrouwen van ongeveer 27 tot 40 jaar, zodat er genoeg ruimte is om iedereen te leren kennen en echt met elkaar in gesprek te gaan.

Wat ik vooral belangrijk vind...

Ik zoek geen ontzettend actieve club met een volle sociale agenda, maar juist een ontspannen en laagdrempelige plek waar we onze liefde voor boeken kunnen delen.

Het lijkt me heerlijk om samen echt de diepte in te gaan over een verhaal, verschillende meningen te horen en lekker te discussiëren over personages en thema's. Maar natuurlijk mag er ook volop ruimte zijn voor andere gezellige gesprekken!

Ik werk zelf fulltime en vind het fijn als een hobby vooral ontspanning brengt. Het hoeft dus allemaal niet ingewikkeld te zijn. Een fijn boek, goede koffie en leuk gezelschap zijn wat mij betreft al genoeg. 🥰

En wie weet ontstaan er ondertussen ook mooie nieuwe vriendschappen. Want hoe leuk is het om ook als volwassene nog nieuwe mensen te ontmoeten met wie je interesses deelt?

Weet iemand een goede nagelstyliste in Nijmegen die BIAB/gelnagels doet? Ik ga liever niet naar de Aziatische salons en ik wil iemand die TPO-vrij werkt. Ik laat mijn nagels nu doen bij mijn schoonzus maar zij kan alleen op één dag en ik heb binnenkort geen opvang meer voor die dag voor mijn zoon (ze doet het naast haar reguliere baan). This is a super long shot but here we go-
My boyfriend’s bike was stolen from the Nijmegen station somewhere between Thursday 15.10. and Monday 20.10.
It’s a Cube Nuroad Pro in this colour (attached in comments), unfortunately we dont have good pictures of it (it has additional mudguards and a rear carrier).
It has quite a few small stickers all around it, with the Bambino logo sticker in the inner center of the frame and a bike “bib number” on the inner side of the pole that holds the saddle (really don’t know the terminology, sorry!).
This bike has a HUGE sentimental value to him, so please, if you see an ad for it/see it for sale/see it around the streets or ANYTHING AT ALL - dm me/comment here or anything - I really wanna show him the power of Reddit will somehow find his bike.
