News Petition predicament: Nebraska’s single-subject rule paves uncertain road for voter initiatives
More than 10% of Nebraska’s registered voters signed a petition this year in support of a constitutional amendment that would make it more difficult for the Legislature to make changes to voter-enacted laws.
Because of a single sentence in the Nebraska Constitution known as the single-subject rule, Nebraskans won’t be able to vote on that amendment in November.
The single-subject rule has been a thorn in the side of Nebraska campaigns to get citizen-initiated statutes and constitutional amendments since it was added to the state constitution in 1998. Like the Respect Nebraska Voters campaign this year, the first attempt by voters to legalize medical marijuana in 2020 was disqualified from the ballot after the Nebraska Supreme Court found that it contained more than one subject.

Politics Candidates shared their stance on science policy
Hi all, months ago I made a post here to see if any early-career researchers were interested in a science policy initiative to ask candidates science policy questions. Well I’m back to share the resource we made! Not every candidate responded but those who did answered questions that relate to how they make decisions, what research they would prioritize funding for, and how science fits into their policies on a range of topics. I hope you take a look before heading to the polls and continue to contact your representatives about using good science after the election.
What do you think about these candidates understanding of STEM?

Nebraska This might be a long shot, but does anyone have a room for rent in Fairbury, Nebraska, or know someone who does? Any leads or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
Hi everyone! I’m moving to Fairbury at the end of November for work and will be living on my own. I’m looking for a roommate, a room for rent, or a studio apartment.
I’ve tried searching online, but there don’t seem to be many listings available. I’m planning to contact some local apartment complexes, but I was wondering if anyone could recommend landlords, property managers, local housing groups, or other resources that might help me find a place to live.
Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Nebraska Thinking about voting for Republicans? Like paying more taxes (unless you're the donor class)? Here's their plan if they keep power next year.
The link is to the Platte Institute's plan for closing the revenue gap they helped create through tax cuts and incentives for the wealthy. So they want to repeal those cuts and restore services? Nope, their main focus is on implementing sales tax on a myriad of goods and services, including but not limited to:
--Doctor's visits
--Groceries
--Residential Water Service(!)
--Non-business legal services
It's kind of like Nebraska's own version of Project 2025. They want to distract you with culture wars to rob you blind to pay for their tax cuts. Have the day you vote for, Nebraskans

Nebraska Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana sent me a voter guide
Two years ago, voters passed medical cannabis, yet our current elected officials have done everything in their power to sabotage and dismantle what voters passed. There are 11 days until Election Day, and if we want to ever see a medical program in our state, we have to vote like cannabis is on the ballot.
NMM is announcing our Compassionate Candidate Pledge which features candidates that will uphold the will of the voters including allowing all forms, and holding the Commission accountable.
To see a full list of candidates that have signed the Pledge and for voting information, visit NMM2026.org.
The lives of patients and caregivers across Nebraska are relying on you. Please vote.

Quite the pointed ad at Pillen from Lindstrom. It has been interesting to see this potential scandal be buried so far in this campaign. Curious to see if and how this makes any different.

We all (hopefully) want transparent and accessible elections. Put this number in your phone and if you see anything questionable when you vote, please report it to the Election Protection Hotline.
