Question Can i keep them together ?

Hello,

I have been planning to set up a terrarium for tropical millipedes for some time now.

It is important to me that the animals enjoy climbing and are also somtimes visible during the day.

Furthermore, I intend to create a bioactive terrarium, measuring 60x45x50 cm.

I have decided on *Dendrostreptus macracanthus*. It's a large breed of millipedes. But from what I have read, this species can be kept together with *Centrobolus* sp. 'Mozambique'.

Does anyone have any experience with this combination or any advice? The two species would look very cool together, and they also share the same temperature and humidity requirements.

Additionally, I would like to know if any kind of *Cubaris* isopods are suitable as a "clean-up crew." I would love to have some colorful, isopods that can be spotted from time to time.

I have read that certain isopod species, which require a high protein intake, can potentially injure the millipedes.

I look forward to any feedback you may have.

Question Why do my millipedes do this

Post image

I just got three millipedes today, put them into enclosure and two of them started flipping their head and they stay like that for a minute or longer.

It usually happens when the third millipede is near.

Is there something wrong with those two ? Are they near their end ?

Advice Help me

My GAM is losing legs (almost all of his back legs) and I don’t know why. It looks like foot rot to me, but the top of his soil is rarely even wet enough to be destroying his limbs like this, I mist down the tank every once in awhile but never to the point where he’s walking in straight mud… any idea what could be causing him damage? I feel like crap knowing the little guy has lost the left side of his back legs.

Question No sign of my new millipedes, when should I be worried?

Hi all, first time owner here! I got my giant fire millipedes (Pelmatojulus excisus) about a week ago. And other than when I first put them into their new home I haven’t seen them at all and there’s been no evidence that they have been out and about. I know it can take a while for them to settle but not sure at what point I should be worried that I’ve not seen them yet? They share their house with a thriving springtail colony. I’ve included pictures of their set up and a couple of snaps I got of them last week before they hid away.

Advice Is it safe to use pine white rot for feeding milipedes?

Can pine white/brown rot be used to feed olive millipedes? The wood doesn't smell like pine, it smell like dampness and mushrooms, which means the resin is gone, right?

Advice I think I lost my milipede

Hi, I'm new to keeping millipedes. I have Spirostreptus sp. Tanzania, he's small, I got him at the start of September and he's been doing pretty good, usually burrowed in the dirt.

I also have isopods, to be specific Porcellio laevis Dairy Cow.

I keep their enclosure moist all the time, my isopod colony is small. I wanted to add them a new plant, and while searching for my milipede (I didn't want to accidentally hurt him) i couldn't find him. I searched everywhere in the soil very gently, no trace of him. I'm really worried that he might have died. I don't think he could have escaped because I always close the lid and I searched around the terrarium.

I know I can only wait but I'm really worried, he's my first milipede and I already fell in love with him. Is it possible that he suddenly died? Or maybe I'm just blind and he's just curled up tightly somewhere in the soil?

Sorry if the post is messy, English isn't my first language and I rarely post anything on Reddit.

Advice How to get rid of these mites

Post image
18 Upvotes

I noticed recently that my millipede had a small amount of these dark mites on her leg area that are much bigger then the usual lighter coloured mites that apparently are good for her and are meant to keep bad mites off. I checked again today and the mite population had exploded and she seemed to be trying to get them off as when I saw her she was scraping her underside against the substrate, leaving a large hole. I googled it and it says to use a paint brush to get them off but I've been doing that for the past hour and she just curls up and the mites don't really come off. Any help would be appreciated and please note I can't do a full setup clean as her enclosure is bioactive and home to other inverts.

hey all! finally got around to giving these guys an upgrade including a few inches worth of purely rotting hardwood and leaf litter, moss patches + some other cool stuff. SUPER proud of how this came out, substrate currently stands at 14 inches deep; humid end on the right.

Question Millipede who won’t stop eating?

Post image
49 Upvotes

Ok so I recently got a second American Gaint Millipede. She is bigger than my other one and she seems to be always hungry. When I pick her up she’s nibbling on me, I put fish food in she eats it all, she’s goes to get calcium source quite often and eats any veggie I put in there till it’s completely gone! This might be completely normal behaviour and I’m just overthinking but my other girl really doesn’t eat like that, she likes a nibble here and there but seems to mainly eat her substrate. I believe the new one is also eating the substrate and leaf litter but EVERYTHING else too.

So my question is… do I need to limit how much she’s eating? Should there be a limit on how much I feed my millipedes?

Ive asked this before, but is this too many mites?! It just feels so off :/

Yes I know the bottom of the tank is short, its extra due to the fact I PLANNED to have new substrate today and emptied about 2/3rds of it and was gonna keep some to mix and then royal mail said "nah" and now its delayed to Friday 😭

Advice New enclosure

We moved our Giant African Millipedes into this new enclosure after buying a second one! It houses one male and one female. The substrate is roughly as deep as they are long, it is a mixture of reptisoil, millimix, baked compost from our own garden, and we added sphagnum moss, white rot, and different leaves throughout the mixture! Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: I am hoping to breed them eventually so any tips on that would also be appreciated!

I just got my first pair of millipedes yesterday. They are rainbow Thai and around a couple years old. I'm fairly certain they're both female based on sexing guides, but I'd love a second opinion!

Advice Molting millipede

So my African giant boy is doing a surface molt. they’re in a temporary way to small enclosure due to constructions in my bedroom and their big tank not fitting in it right now and I hadn’t expected him to molt during the one month they’d be in this smaller box. Problem is I can’t seem to get my girl away from him. I wanted to separate them by placing a plastic wall between where he is and she is but she’s pressed right up against him. Distracting her with food isn’t working and she’s clamped down too tightly to pick up. What should I do with her?. He’s not cracked his head open yet but I don’t want her to pester/bite him when he eventually does. what do I do with her?
