Oh the weed guys just got the name first/with more people. Seems like it got started by people leaving the obvious r/marijuana because of issues with how it was run. Trees seems to have come from some of the stoners calling themselves Ents. Like LoTR Ents.

Then this one popped up as sortof a dig about the r/trees which should obviously be about actually trees, not being about trees.

There's other worthy of mention subreddits along this joke side of things, since r/trees has two offshoots.

r/leaves is support for people who want to stop using weed, and r/petioles is for people that don't want to stop completely and just reduce consumption. The puns bring me great joy and they seem like great communities.

There's also r/saplings for under-18s who have questions about marijuana.

Huh nice, So who was the mastermind who came up with the plan to hijack this group.

No hijack, friend. This sub has always been a fond joke.

Pretty sure it's u/CreamofTheClop. If not the sub been pretty much their project from the start.

This sub came from a few posts on r/trees that were made by people looking for advice on actual trees. The stoners on r/trees helped the best they could but were not much help to the posters. Then a running joke on April Fools where r/trees would be tree only posts. And I think shortly after the 2nd time this happened this sub was made for people to actually talk about trees.

They never did as far as I know.r trees was always smaller plant related and true tree lovers had to make a subreddit and this subreddit name way available.
