Request Replacement laptop for HP Envy - USA/Budget $2500
Posted this in Suggestalaptop, but thought you guys might have some ideas.
To start - I’ve got an HP Envy x360 which is fine for “normal” stuff, but struggles with large CAD files.
I was considering one of the ASUS ROG FLOW models because it seems like a pretty convenient package that checks a lot of boxes (and has 128gb of Ram)
Other people have recommended the Lenovo Legion 5
There are so many options, I have no idea where to look or what to buy.
LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
- Country
USA
- Budget
Willing to pay for the right computer, but would like to stay under $2500USD
- Are you open to refurbs/used options?
No
- Screen size
Any between 14 and 17 inches, but open to options
- Weight limit
Any - Still want some portability and actual use on lap
- Purpose
Casual gaming, heavy 3D modeling/CAD (Fusion360), 3D printing, Vehicle Diagnostics
- Form factor
My current is a 2-in-1, which I actually use quite a bit. Pen support/touch screen would be really nice.
- Intended usage
Fusion 360
Solidworks
Bambu Studio
Steam/Epic (Kids like to play Fortnite and survival/crafting games)
CapCut/Davinci Resolve (Video editing)
Standard "everyday life" use - Excel/Word/Powerpoint/Web Browsing
- Desired battery life
I'm USUALLY plugged in, especially when doing heavy lifting. I do occasionally need to be on battery for a couple hours at a time when working in the garage or in cars. I don't anticipate doing any max-performance work while on battery, but obviously the ability to do so would be nice.
- Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life
Performance, Size, Weight, Battery Life.
I don't think I need a "workstation" level machine, where portability is significantly compromised. I'd get a desktop if that were the case.
- Info/Requirements
You know more than I do when it comes to where I should start to look in terms of specs/components. Here are some things I THING I require - but I'm relying on the brain trust to help me decide and narrow it down.
- Lots of RAM and a decent graphics card are a must when doing CAD work.
- I'll often be connected to 2 external monitors with a separate keyboard and mouse, especially while doing "real" work
- This is 100% for personal use
- I like having a touch-screen, especially when working in the garage or in the car
- I don't care about things like RGB lights or anything like that.
- Durability is going to be important. I'll be carrying it in a backpack on a motorcycle and it will serve life as a portable computer.
- Budget is pretty flexible. I'd rather buy-once/cry-once, if it's worth it.
- I do some work outside, but I've never really had an issue with glare or anything with my previous computers.
- I'm not doing any kind of serious photo or video editing.
- I do not have any brand preferences for computer or components.
Open to any suggestions! If there are any questions you guys might have to help recommend something, I'm happy to answer.
Thanks for the help!

Discussion The natural obsolence of laptops/tech makes me sad
Laptop/tablet recos?
Hi! I'm currently using a Lenovo IdeaPad 330 with an Intel Core i5 8th gen, 8GB/256GB. This is already 8 years old, but it's still functional but, the hardware is a bit faulty already, so I was planning to upgrade to a new laptop or tablet that can handle basic school/work tasks (and probably some games like Roblox/Steam)
What would you recommend under 35K-40K that's lighter than my current one and has higher specs?

Laptop Suggestions
Hello, I'm a Media Studies student based in India and I'm looking for suggestions on laptops I could buy for mainly just 2 purposes-
Video and short film editing (I use DaVinci Resolve)
Gaming (Not intense, I kinda just play Roblox, Stardew Valley, Phasmophobia and some of the older Assassin's Creed games)
My maximum budget is about Rs.2.5 Lakhs but I am very much open to suggestions that are well under that price bracket as long as it can deliver to my requirements while also helping me save some money. Links would be appreciated and thank you!

Discussion Recommendations for a Nimo work use centered laptop?
Hello hello,
I’m looking for a lower cost, small, lightweight, and reliable laptop that I can use for work. I’ve had my current laptop (MacBook Air 13) since 2020 and she’s lasted me the whole way through college and now a year afterwards. The bad part is that it has always been a lag, then crash, then turn on and act fine kind of computer and I have had to have it constantly plugged in for the better of two years or else it’s dead in two hours or overheating, then lagging, then crashing, and I’m sure you catch my drift.
I’ve attributed the crashes as a quirk (so as not to upset the computer gods) but I think I’m ready to get a computer that’s better for what I do daily.
I use Google Chrome/Drive for most everything and I run minimal editing software like Adobe & Canva.
Any suggestions— even if it’s pointing me away from Nimo would be great, I just want a good computer that I can have & love for the next six years.
Thank you all :)

Request Does Macbook Air 2022 M2 13-inch have almost exactly the same type of display as a Surface laptop 7?
My Surface Laptop 7 recently broke (due to likely water damage) and I need a replacement. I recently stumbled across the Apple 2022 MacBook Air which, according to AI (haven't asked a real person yet), is very similar to the Surface laptop 7's display.
I prefer to have a screen with 60Hz, high resolution (~200ppi or a little above), PixelSense Flow LCD (AI told me that it is almost the same thing as LED-backlit IPS LCD), fairly low max brightness when set to minimum brightness, no detected backlight flicker (especially at lower brightness levels), and roughly the same anti-glare coating. I don't need the same exact aspect ratio nor a touchscreen.
I also would like to know if both/neither the Surface Laptop 7 or the Macbook Air 2022 M2 13-inch have temporal dithering/FRC (this could greatly affect the display, according to AI). I would like to know the difference between P3 and standard sRGB and how it may affect the laptop's display.
I am asking all of this because I have light sensitivity issues and most other displays (other than the Surface Laptop 7) seem to bother my eyes.

Well as we all know about the RAM prices, I don't wanna spend unnecessarily on DDR5 RAM, so please helppp me guyyss,
I don't know i thought DDR4 was good enough but then I watched a few vids and asked AI about it, it was pretty insistent on DDR5. Could y'all please help me out with it, I'm gonna go for 16GB RAM for context.
