Question bar recommendations for Halloween?

my husband and I moved to Western MA a few months ago and we don’t go out much because he works a lot! I love Halloween but don’t have any friends nearby so we have no plans. what’s a good bar to go to? there doesn’t have to be a dj or costume contest or anything like that, not really into raves or house music either. i love a fun cocktail!!
we’re in our 30s so preferably somewhere we can meet people our age and not feel out of place among a lot of college kids?
we live in western mass but i have a feeling there’s a better selection of spots in the Hartford area! we know about karaoke at Sunberry which we might go to if we don’t hear of anything else, but most other flyers I’ve seen are for club type of events 🎃 thank you!!

Question HVAC company in Hartford recommending heat pump, sales push or legit??

Had an HVAC company out to quote furnace replacement. Furnace is 20, its done, no argument. But instead of quoting a new furnace they went straight to heat pump. Rebates make it comparable, handles AC too, etc. Im open to it but the whole conversation was steered toward the most expensive option and I couldnt tell if it was real advice or margin optimization.

Hartford area, 1500 sq ft, gas now. How do I tell if the recommendation is genuine?

I-84E Hit & Run tonight (10/25; 7:30p)

It’s a long shot but I wonder if anyone might have been on I-84 East right before the I-91 exchange at 7:30pm tonight. (Sunday, October 25, 2026; Hartford CT area)

I’m hoping someone might have caught a hit & run on their dash cam or maybe noted a plate # or vehicle type.

A large black SUV was going way too fast, cutting across lanes, and side-swiped a cranberry-colored Chrysler Town & Country van with a North Carolina plate. The SUV was in the left lane & cut right, hitting the front driver’s side of the van. (I was behind the NC van)

The driver of the SUV slowed down as if they were going to pull over, so the van did, too. Then suddenly the SUV cut back onto 84, accelerated, and took the very next exit (I think that was 91?) then sped away. (I’m not from the area, so I apologize for the vague location description)

Both the van & I tried to follow the SUV but it was too dangerous to keep pursuing. The van pulled off the highway and went to the Connecticut Convention Center Marriott where I stopped to offer them as much information as I could.

The family wasn’t seriously injured, but they were very shaken up and their car was damaged. Without more details about the SUV, there’s nothing the police could do.

I’d really like to be able to help them find the reckless <expletive> who did this and getting it out on social media was the only thing I could think of.

Thanks so much for reading, offering suggestions, or sharing with your circles.

Drive safely, everyone!

Question How to find social events in Hartford, to make friends?

Hi guys!! I have moved to Hartford for a job and it’s been a few months that I’m here. Although I feel alone and like to make friends and also do something I enjoy. While meeting people.

So I thought I join social gatherings, for example i found a couple of run clubs that i might try, but other than that I like hiking, nature, boardgames, any sports to do for fun.. But I don’t know where to find people. Agewise I’m a woman in early thirties.

Let me know if you have an idea of where to find these types of things. I already tried eventbrite and nothing is happening there lol.

Update: omg!! thank you so much for all the recommendations!! i want to check them all out. very excited. So far first thing I wanna try is flat feet runnings. Will check for more! 😍🙏🏻

Question Convention Center area walkable?

I'll be at an event at the Connecticut Convention Center over the weekend, though my hotel is the nearby Doubletree. Is the distance between those two places walkable, or am I just going to have to suck it up and pay the parking fees at both places for the days/overnight? Also, any recommended takeout places in the immediate area? Thanks!

Beef on weck, spiedies and chicken riggies? This Connecticut bar serves Upstate NY favorites

Thumbnail newyorkupstate.com

Beef on weck. Spiedies. Michigan hot dogs. Chicken riggies. Rochester-style trash plates. Deep-fried cheese with Melba sauce.

It sounds like a road trip through Upstate New York, but this menu belongs to a restaurant hundreds of miles away in Hartford, Connecticut.

The Upstate Lounge and Cafe, owned by Upstate NY native, Joe Ploof, is bringing a taste of home to homesick Upstate transplants and curious New Englanders alike.

Question Paying for a Hartford express bus with a credit card - vending machines?

I'm going to be in Hartford soon. From there, I'll want to take the Waterbury express bus. I'd like to pay the fare with a credit card. I'd also like a two-hour ticket so I can ride a local & make a free stopover along CTFastrak beforehand.

I know I can't pay express fares with the Token Transit app. With its $2 fee and $10 minimum load, the Go card doesn't make sense for me either.

Years ago, I used ticket vending machines (TVMs) right on the street in downtown Hartford. There was one at the Waterbury express stop near Union Station. But when I called the Hartford service center today, the agent there claimed that those TVMs no longer exist. Is that true? Are there are least still TVMs at CTFastrak stations, as the website still says?

Thanks.

Question Hair Stylist for Flower Girl with Cochlear Implant Recommendations

Hi everyone,

We are looking for recommendations for a hair stylist with experience doing hair for people with cochlear implants.

The flower girl (6) for our wedding has a cochlear implant. We want to make sure she feels just as comfortable and included as the rest of our bridal party and would like to find a stylist with experience in this area. Has anyone with a cochlear implant worked with a hair stylist they’d recommend?
