[Serious] Post your questions about moving to Harlem here.
It's the season of the "Is Harlem safe" posts and other more interesting questions from people thinking about moving here. Please post your questions related to moving to Harlem in this thread only.
As u/BuhDeepThatsAllFolx (thank you!) kindly and calmly explained in another thread regarding Harlem's Safety:
"This is by far the number one question Harlemites hate answering.
It’s so annoying. This is our home. We all have some sense of comfort here or else we’d move.
The short response to your post:
Don’t know you and the feeling of safety is subjective. You’ll have to feel it out and decide on your own if it feels safe for you to walk or take a cab
Don’t listen to Fox News or right wing media telling you NYC is scary. They’re just scared of the world and looking for reasons to hate POC and love guns more than people"
Now that the safety question is answered, there's no need to ask anymore.
Now this thread is the place to ask your other questions about moving here! Serious inquiries only, and remember to be kind!

Help me help sick pigeons in Harlem
Hi all,
I try to help pigeons in Harlem, especially on 125th street. Some people in the community stop and see me taking string or hair off their feet to prevent limb loss, but for a lot of pigeons they need additional care. Recently friendly neighbors let me know when a pigeon isn’t flying or has been in the same spot for a long time. A couple of houseless people walked me to a pigeon baby abandoned.
If you see a pigeon who isn’t walking a lot, and sits down often, or any pigeons who cannot fly please let me know. There is also a pigeon who really needs help around the 125th street park Avenue. She might have a reproductive issue where an egg is stuck to her which can be very dangerous.
All pigeons go to Wild Bird Fund on the upper west side.
You can message me here or follow my new Instagram page uptown_pigeons
Thanks for helping me help our feathered friends

So tired of these people!
me & my friend just casually walking home (east harlem) and stop on the way to the supermarket to get some things. on the same block we see this crazy crackhead couple, & the guy is yelling at the girl, she's yelling back. and we just glance at them for like a sec and quickly pass because they're right in front of the supermarket. & the stupid bitch says "don't look at us mind your fuckin business bitch" and i'm like wait ik she not talking to us. So we go back outside and we start yelling and she not saying nothing, so okay we go back in to quickly get our groceries and she's staring at us through the glass as we are buying our groceries. This point, we're eyeing her back because as soon as we walk out we gonna be ready for whatever if she say or does anything. so she stops looking at us and starts hugging the man she was just arguing with. We walk pass and she was quiet So we went about our day. We wasn't gonna bully them mfs at all because they ain't deserve anymore of our energy. Tired of these mfs smoking whatev they smoking and trying people just because they think people not gonna say nothing. but yeah just came here to vent. 🤣💯

Has anyone been to Cordial at bway & 141. I always pass by and it looks very cute and romantic. Seems pretty unnoticed. How's the food?

Found cat
FOUND CAT — HAMILTON HEIGHTS 🐾❤️
Found on Amsterdam Avenue between W 146th and W 147th Streets.
This incredibly sweet cat came right up to me, rubbing against my legs and being very affectionate. When I brought out a carrier, she actually walked right into it on her own.
She is extremely friendly, loving, and very comfortable with people, which makes me feel strongly that she may have a family who is missing her.
I brought her to a vet to be scanned, but unfortunately she does not have a microchip.
If you think she may be yours or you recognize her, please reach out. I’ll ask for photos or identifying information to make sure she gets back to the right person.
Please share, especially with anyone in the Hamilton Heights/Washington Heights area. Let’s get this sweetheart home. ❤️🐾

Looking for a girly girl babysitter for my daughter.
Single dad looking for a fun, caring, girly girl babysitter for my 9 year old daughter. She’d love some girl time doing hair, nails, crafts, and other fun activities.
Looking for someone available on weekends and possibly Mondays and Fridays after school. Hours are flexible. Babysitting would take place at our apartment near Malcolm X Boulevard and 135th Street in Harlem.
Ideally, you’re patient, responsible, and enjoy spending time with kids. Light homework help when needed. If you think you’d be a good fit, please send me a DM.

National Urban League President Marc Morial to Headline Historic Riverside Church Symposium on the Future of Young Black Males
NEW YORK, NY — The Men’s Class of The Riverside Church has announced that Marc H. Morial, President and CEO of the National Urban League and former Mayor of New Orleans, will serve as the keynote speaker for an urgent public interest symposium, "From Surviving to Thriving: Equipping Young Black Males for the Future." The event will take place on Sunday, November 8, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the historic Riverside Church, located at 490 Riverside Drive, New York, NY.
Amidst a backdrop of shifting national policy and acute economic challenges, Morial—one of the nation's leading voices on equity, economic empowerment, and civil rights—will deliver a definitive, action-oriented address. Moving past the mere recitation of statistics, the symposium is strictly designed to unveil concrete, systemic, and community-led frameworks to dismantle the structural hurdles facing young Black men.
"We are entering a pivotal societal shift that demands a rigorous strategic architecture for our youth," said Tunde Aboyade-Cole, President of the Men’s Class. "Marc Morial brings unparalleled experience and political savvy to this crisis. There is no leader better equipped to help us map out actionable plan for our young men."
Since opening its doors in 1930, The Riverside Church has stood at the global vanguard of social justice, supporting historic movements from Civil Rights to Anti-Apartheid. This upcoming program continues that legacy by confronting modern systemic crises through six core operational pillars:
1. Dismantling Historic and Systemic Barriers: Devising localized tactics to combat systems inhibiting progress.
2. Disrupting the School-to-Prison Pipeline: Improving academic outcomes and reducing the stark justice gap.
3. Economic Empowerment: Exploring innovative workforce pathways to counter volatile youth unemployment.
4. Mental Health & Healing: Fostering tailored healing circles to address unique structural traumas.
5. Strengthening Family & Fatherhood: Cultivating stable family structures and debunking harmful stereotypes.
6. Navigating Policy Shifts: Strategic frameworks to insulate youth from eroded civil rights protections.
As the leader of the National Urban League for over two decades, Morial has spearheaded transformative national initiatives including the Urban Youth Empowerment Program and championed public safety frameworks like the “21 Pillars for Redefining Public Safety”. His address and subsequent conversation will focus directly on moving the narrative from simple endurance to absolute, systemic empowerment.
The event is free and open to the public, media partners, and community stakeholders. Due to the high-profile nature of the keynote speaker and limited capacity in the historic venue, attendees are strongly encouraged to register free immediately to secure seating.

Just a question
Hi, m24, Caucasian, married, gay, would my husband and I be cool if we moved to Harlem? My friend in Queens claims me nor my husband would survive in ANY part of Harlem and told me to “stay the fuck away from Harlem!” Are his claims justified or is he over exaggerating this?

From Surviving to Thriving: Equipping Young Black Males for the Future
We are convening in this historic space to spark actionable solutions. FREE EVENT WITH RAFFLES
Our explicit objective is to move beyond highlighting statistics and focus heavily on systemic and actionable strategies. To guide our panelists, we have compiled the following six core pillars:
1. Dismantling the Historic and Systemic Barriers: Devising effective and actionable programs, tactics and community efforts to combat, dismantle, and/or neutralize barriers and systems inhibiting progress and justice for blacks in general, and black males in particular.
2. Dismantling the School-to-Prison Pipeline: Developing concrete strategies to help improve school performance, and also to disrupt punitive educational systems and reduce the justice gap that leaves Black youth nearly six times more likely to be incarcerated than their white peers.
3. Economic Empowerment: Exploring innovative pathways for workforce development to counteract volatile youth unemployment rates.
4. Mental Health & Healing: Fostering tailored healing circles and support systems to address the unique traumas driving mental health crisis among young Black men.
5. Strengthening Family & Fatherhood: Building support systems that cultivate family formation while actively debunking harmful stereotypes about Black fathers.
6. Navigating Policy Shifts: Analyzing what the erosion of civil rights protections under the Trump administration means for Black youth, and sharing strategic frameworks to minimize these adverse impacts.

Halal cart at W 125 and Frederick Douglass
Does anyone know what happened to the cart there, on Frederick Douglass, outside TD bank?
Now there's a truck, but it's not the same guy. i had asked this summer and one of the other vendors said he was away for August, but every time I pass, he's still not there.
