Recommendations/Requests I haven’t really liked anything I’ve read from Alan Moore, is something wrong with me?

Just finished V for Vendetta and thought it was just okay. I enjoyed the social commentary but thought the story was way overdone. Watchmen was okay but not mind blowing like so many people say. I think From Hell was my favorite of his but I wouldn’t say it was amazing. I love the JTR story and Victorian/Georgian British history so that was part of the draw. I’ve read a few Swamp Thing comics back in the day but they weren’t that memorable. I really enjoyed the film version of V for Vendetta but I thought the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen film was silly. Is there something I’m missing?

Recommendations/Requests Whats the most mindfuck trippy thrilling psychedelic graphic novel?

So I'm just starting my journey to read graphic novels and first i wanna read something absolutely reality altering trippy stuff, like i just sit there is awe of what craziness is going on and won't be able to put it down at all, also like we don't have a big comic or graphic novel culture in my country so its kinda difficult to get my hands on some of the old stuff so ig newer things would be preferred.

Thank you!!

Recommendations/Requests Looking for graphic novel recommendations for my Dad

My dad is 64 years old and has recently become interested in graphic novels. He really enjoyed Maus and Watchmen, and I'm looking for some more books he might enjoy.

He's interested in world history (especially ancient history) and enjoys watching action movies (ones like John Wick), so I think graphic novels with historical settings, war, political intrigue, crime, adventure, or plenty of action could be a good for him.

They don't necessarily have to be superhero books or historical nonfiction. I'm open to pretty much anything that you think would be a good fit. I think he'd enjoy anything as long as it has a good story!

What would you recommend?

I read about this one from a post in this subreddit & absolute loved it.
I loved the dynamic between the robot & the skull a lot & the stories featured in here are short they are very sweet but my favorite thing about it was the art.Any thing similar to this art wise?

Recommendations/Requests If you could only add one more...

Post image
197 Upvotes

I've become a graphic novel enthusiast late in life...

Here's the majority of my small but proud collection (not pictured: Old Man Logan, The Killing Joke, the complete "Bone" series, all "Calvin and Hobbes" by B. Watterson, and the majority of Asterix and Obelix, if the latter two are considered graphic novels in the first place).

I have NO DOUBT you can give me some flawless recommendations... but I need to add slowly and methodically. I'd considered the "He-Man Omnibus" for myself and my son? Also, the "Punisher: Born" looks great, if I can find it for a reasonable price.

So... the question is... what do I need to read before I die?

If you could only add ONE... which one would it be?

Thanks in advance for your patience and suggestions. Cheers!

Recommendations/Requests My first graphic novel blew my mind

Post image

A couple months ago I made a post here asking for my first ever graphic novel recommendations. I said I was into gritty, darker tone, adult stories. Got a ton of great suggestions and I ended up going with Scalped.

And holy shit.

I cannot believe I’ve been missing out on this medium my entire life. The story, the characters. I was completely absorbed in a story the way I haven’t felt in a long time.

So now I’m back looking for my next read, but this time I’m hoping for something science fiction. I’m a huge James Cameron fan. I love Avatar, Aliens, Terminator. Something with atmosphere, big ideas about humanity, technology, and survival. Hard sci-fi is a bonus.

Thanks!

Recommendations/Requests Best Crime Sagas? Authors?

Thumbnail

Howdy folks 👋 Looking for crime comic recommendations, but more specifically I’m looking for sweeping crime sagas with a large cast of characters and a fleshed-out world. I love it when a crime series follows an ensemble cast, switching from protagonist to protagonist. I prefer having someone to root for, but I also enjoy stories where everyone is deeply flawed and awful. If the story has an overarching narrative, that’s great, and if it’s a series of unrelated or loosely connected stories, that’s cool too.

Really I’m just looking for your favorite crime comics and crime authors in general haha, whether or not they meet any of these criteria. Let’s hear em. Huge fan of Brubaker and Frank Miller; Scalped was a great read, as was 100 Bullets. I’ve heard Stray Bullets is up my alley as well. EDIT: oh yeah and Batman is my fucking guy, duh idk how I forgot to add that

UPDATE General consensus seems to be:
Stray Bullets
Anything by Brubaker/Phillips
100 Bullets
The Killer
Blacksad
Parker by Darwyn Cooke (can confirm, great series)

EDIT: I forgot to add, none of these images are mine. If citation is necessary I can find and attribute properly

Recommendations/Requests Standalone graphic novels reccomendations where the author is also the illustrator?

Looking for mainly groaning novels where one person is in charge of the whole creative process, mainly some indie stuff maybe.

I am not interested in comics with a lot of issues or runtime in it and I'd rather have "one and done " Experience even if it's made in 1-3 book volumes. I also don't enjoy reading superhero stuff and I like horror stories mostly or books made with bad really unique style in them.

Thank you for your time!!!

Recommendations/Requests Suggestions for a gift for my husband?

Post image
336 Upvotes

My husband has just gotten very into graphic novels over the past year or two. I know these aren't all that he has, but the top are a bunch I know he got earlier on, and the bottom are ones he has gotten more recently. I know he cares a lot about the craft of the book, and then beautiful art and a beautiful story (dub probably). He loves cats, he loves birds, he loves both sci-fi and fantasy. I am hoping to get some recommendations of books I could get him for this birthday that fit into this vein, especially the bottom books. Thank you for any help!
