Discussion How to: split multi passenger credit to rebook 1 person

If you cancelled a flight with multiple passengers and now have a credit you wish to use for 1 of the passengers without rebooking all of the passengers, this is the current workaround to do this. Thanks u/BigFigFart for sharing!

Help People who fly Flair frequently, I need your advice!

I am flying from YYZ - YEG on October 29 with my 7yo son. I’ve never flown Flair (I’ve been loyal to WestJet for over a decade) and I’ve been reading how rigid Flair is about size/weight of luggage, etc. This may sound like a stupid question, but from experience, would the cost change much between two medium size carry-ons to one extra large checked suitcase? If they are within the weight limit? Just wondering if I should pack one XL or two medium. TIA!

I do have a checked luggage to drop off

edited to add i have the plus add on so says there is express bag check in

2nd edit - arrived at YVR around 4.20am to be safe. checked bag ans through security and CBP by 5am.

Discussion Ticket Exchange Price Difference

I had to cancel my trip today, 47 hours before departure. Since I'm not eligible for a refund, I figured I'd try exchanging my ticket for a different flight instead. But the pricing makes absolutely no sense.

For example, if I book a new flight from Toronto to Florida (with the Lite Bundle) directly on Flair's website, it costs $200.

My original ticket cost $300, and the exchange fee is $150. So I figured the calculation would be: $200 (new flight) - $300 (original ticket) + $150 (exchange fee) = $50 to switch flights.

But when I use Flair's ticket exchange tool, the exact same flight is listed at $400 instead of $200. Add the $150 exchange fee, and the total comes to $550. After applying my original $300 ticket, I still owe $250 to exchange my flight; $50 more than just buying the ticket directly and not using my reservation credit.

Am I missing something here? Why is the exact same flight twice as expensive through the ticket exchange tool?

Flight F8652 YYZ-YHZ (Sat October 24)

I have a pocket knife with a blade under 6cm, which according to CATSA is fine for a domestic flight within Canada, but Flair says all knives are prohibited, are their rules different for whatever reason? Has anyone had trouble with this or has it been fine?

Review Unusually awful experience with Flair. spoiler: they don’t care about your experience. AVOID. Spoiler

Edit: the reason I said Porter was comparable was because they charged me less than Flair on a recent flight with a similar route. Less, people. This isn’t exactly ULOC.

I’ve flown my share of budget airlines. Sure, I can sit with all water, snacks etc having a price tag on board. I can prep those on my own. But what I was not prepared for…

  1. They do not assign passengers on the SAME BOOKING in seats next to each other. Unless you pay up. They will deliberately separate you and your companion, 10 rows apart in my case.
  2. I just boarded the flight and someone made an agreement with another passenger so they can sit next to family (who was ostensibly split up because of point 1). The flight attendant overheard and this was the exchange.

Friendly passenger: sure, I can switch with you.

Flight attendant: (interrupting) EXCUSE ME. Excuse me. Did you ask a flight attendant if you can switch seats?

Friendly passenger: … what?

Flight attendant: Did you ask a flight attendant if you CAN switch seats?

Friendly passenger:… no?

Flight attendant: then THIS is your seat.

… this genuinely shocked me. They’re really taking every opportunity to milk you of every penny and deny you the freedom to even switch seats with mutual consent. They’re really looking to split up friends and family here.

  1. They measured every single personal item and carry-on. They’re genuinely watching your every move like a hawk to see if they can milk you for extra fees.

Absolutely godawful experience. I’ve flown Porter recently which was also budget, but they served snacks on every flight and even a glass (?!) cup for drinks and even merch (tote bag and keychain). Maybe that was a special anniversary occasion but still… this flight has not departed yet and I’m sitting here, shocked by just how bad this experience has been so far. Never flying Flair again and still disappointed that I have a return trip coming up.

Flight: Oct 23 YVR-YYZ 12:50. Yes, the flight hasn’t even departed yet at the time of posting.

Review Review - Great experience, but definitely a budget airline

Hello all, our family of four just flew return-trip from Vancouver YVR to Calgary YYC with Flair - First time with Flair! Overall, it was a great experience although you can tell this is a discount airline with mixed results. I had searched a few things on Reddit prior to flying and I couldn't get some questions answered, so I'm hoping to help others by passing along my experience.

1 - The aircraft- The flight on departure was definitely an older jet with outdated and worn seats, and was a bit uncomfortable. Take-off and landing was fine on both flights, there were no issues with the aircraft. However, on the return, the interior of the plane was completely different - The seats were newer with Flair's color scheme, new carpeting, and much cleaner look. It was like I was on two different airlines, I hope all their aircraft interior gets updated to the new look.

1 - Seat Assignment - If you did not pay for a seat, these are assigned randomly when you check in, and if they deem necessary for any reason, your seat will get re-assigned and you may get split up from your group. Keep an eye on your email, boarding passes seat number and PAY ATTENTION TO THE ANNOUNCEMENTS (and goodness please be aware if your name is easily mispronounced, looking at you Señor "Aranguizolabarindadondo", I think...) I couldn't believe the number of times people that were called just sat there only to look shocked after their name is called out for the 3rd time. If you want to avoid all of this, just pay for a seat

2 - Bags - Your bags WILL get sized in their test-fit stands - both personal and carry on - and they are quite strict about it. They have an attendant assisting you that will witness the fit and tag it. Yes, you can "squish" your bag in the sizer, but if you've stuffed your bag to the max and you need to give it the People's Elbow to fit it in, prepare to remove or shift items from your bags to make things fit. Once the bag size is verified, they will tag your personal item and carry on with a sticker to verify that it has been checked. A couple of people were told their personal item was too big and would be charged at the carry-on price.

3 - On the plane - After boarding, they will double check the seats that you have been assigned to and they watch you like a hawk. Note that the front seats, emergency exit and window seats all get charged a premium, if you are randomly assigned a window seat, congrats you got lucky. If you didn't, and try to shift to a window seat, they will catch you during seat belt check and make you move back. They know if you are being sneaky.

4 - Seating during Flight - During the flight, they will also watch you like a hawk. There were three younger Indian gentlemen that tried to move to the empty emergency exit seats only to be asked to move to their original seat. They responded with an "ok, sure, in a second" at which point she threatened that her next step was to be to get someone to move them back by force. They DO NOT MESS AROUND and will not let you sit in another seat for a minute whatsoever.

5 - Food/Beverage - Everything is paid for on Flair flights. Water, coffee, snacks, you get nothing free (What did you expect?)

6 - Seat Size/Comfort - On the first flight, the seats were small, worn, and not very comfortable. I am 6'-2" and about 195 lbs, and it was a bit tight for me. The seats did not have pockets in front of you for a tablet or phone. However, as mentioned prior, on the return flight the seat cushions and padding were upgraded throughout the whole plane and it looked great with its black and green trim, and pockets, although size was still a bit tight, this return flight was much more comfortable. There are bigger seats in the front and emergency exits rows, but be prepared to pay.

Summary - Flair is great for me as it works out for short flights within Western Canada, but for anything far from Vancouver/Victoria/Calgary to Toronto/Cancun/Puerto Vallarta, I would definitely go with someone else. Otherwise, if you are alert, on top of your check-in process and aware of the limitations of a budget airline, Flair is a decent budget option. Hope this helps!

Help Cancellation fee

I'm looking to cancel a return flight on my upcoming journey. From everything I can read, it makes no sense to pay the $89 per person to cancel the flight? It seems like I would just be paying a fee of $89 per person to cancel whilst also forfeiting the fee I already paid for the flight. Would it not make more sense for me to just not show up for the flight and save the $89 per person to cancel?

Please correct me if I'm wrong, just a little confused on how this would make sense if anyone can clarify that would be amazing!

Review Did I use all my good karma on this?

So basically I had a round trip from YYC-YVR over Labour Day weekend. I tried to pack everything in one bag small enough to be a personal item and failed, so I purchased the carry-on the night before. When I got to the airport, my ticket wasn’t green (green means purchased carryon) and the lady called flair direct to see if I purchased a bag. She said they would transfer it over for me. I double checked with the stewardess to ask if I had paid for both flights for the carry on, but it was only the return flight but she would transfer it. I get on the flight no problem. Come my return flight, I get through the check-in and my ticket is green. I tried to purchase a carry on the night before, but it kept saying I couldn’t add a carry on for this flight. I figured it was because of the fact it was so close, but it turned out that the carry on I purchased was linked to this flight and therefore they couldn’t transfer it to my previous flight and I got the carry-on for free one way.

Pretty sure that was all the good karma I had saved up over the years, but it was nice not having to pay an additional $75 to bring my dirty clothes home with me.

Review Positive Flair story

Post image
52 Upvotes

I just flew flair, round trip YSJ to YYZ Oct 9- Oct 12 and I want to share my positive story.

I purchased carryons for myself and 2 kids. Kept everything within the measurements on flairs website. All bags fit the sizers and were quickly tagged.

When I checked in they had my 2 kids together in row 13 and me in row 20 but when I got to the airport, the front desk put me with my kids, no problem.

When leaving YSJ, our flight got delayed by an hour but they were quick to empty the plane and get us on.

We made sure we had our own snacks and filled our water bottles after security.

I read so many horror stories about Flair that I was panicking after purchasing the tickets. I panicked for no reason.

I'm already planning to fly with them again.

Discussion Flair > Air Canada

Had a flight cancelled by Air Canada (day before of course and then rebooked on an insane replacement flight.

Decided to book on Flair and was nervous about it.

Have to say, the experience with Flair is so so so much better than Air Canada. Charging $10 for carry on baggage seems to solve 100% of our problems.

We boarded quickly and efficiently without stress and took off on time. The seats were more comfortable than air Canada. No in flight entertainment but really who cares

I’m going to be taking a lot more Flair flights and a lot fewer Air Canada flights after this.

The Air Canada boarding process is an absolute stressful cluster and my disdain for Air Canada has never been higher.

I have 50k status and feel like I’ve wasted my time with this airline

Discussion Toronto Pearson’s website claims Flair flies twice a week to… Kangerlussuaq, Greenland?

Post image
22 Upvotes

I assume this is a mistake, but on Toronto Pearson’s website, it lists all the destinations served from Pearson (under “International Destinations”): https://www.torontopearson.com/en/airlines

And apparently, Flair flies twice a week to Kangerlussuaq, Greenland!
This looks like an obvious error but it would be hilarious if this was actually a route being planned…

Review “Cheap flights” is the lie flair sells

They will charge you extra for every single thing. Seat selection, extra. allow a personal item 15 lbs or less, but if it isn’t the right shape they’ll charge you $100 for a carry on fee. I had a small school backpack that fits under the seat and was only 10lbs - should not have been charged.
Will never fly this airline again. Will recommend no one else does either. Porter is WAY better. Not even a comparison. Flair is garbage.

Review Flair Sucks!

My flight from YYC to YXX on October 4 (F8505) was delayed by nearly 3.5 hours. The delay was announced in the middel of the night the day before. I do not live in Calgary and wasn not able to rebook to a diffrent flight since I had booked a bus from Canmore, where I started my journey, to YYC.

From YXX I should have taken a bus at 8:40pm to Vancouver which I obviously missed due to the arrival time beeing 11:15 instead of 19:40.I had to get a room for the night and a new bus ticket and wasted a lot of time. After I had filled out the form for the compensation, they wanted to make me believe that the delay was for "safety reasons" and refuse to pay for my compensation and additional expenses. Regarding the additional expenses that is sadly probably a lost battel but a flight that is beeing delayed more than 20hours before takeoff is not beeing delayed for saftey reasons out of the hand of Flair so I'm not giving up on the compensation.

Besides that service and comfort is as expected for a budget airline far from something nice but endurable for shorter flights.

I do regret cheaping out and will never fly Flair again and would advice you to do the same. Customer service is horrible and you might end up paying more than spending on a nice flight with a nicer and more reliable airline since a hotel room and new bus ticket add up quickly

0/10 would not recommend 👎

Help Price decrease immediately after booking flight

Flair flight dropped $84 immediately after booking. Any chance of getting the difference refunded?

I just booked a round-trip flight with Flair for $328, including flight disruption protection at $20 each way.
Literally less than a minute after booking, my friend mentioned she wanted to book the same flight. I went back to look into booking it for her and the exact same round-trip flight was now $244, including the same flight disruption protection, which also dropped from $20 to $13 each way.

Has anyone had any luck contacting Flair and getting refunded the difference (cancelled domestic flights are only refunded via a flight credit)? I know flight prices fluctuate, but having it drop that much immediately after booking is pretty frustrating.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Discussion What would you do if an airline cancelled your booking, claimed a passenger did it, but couldn’t identify who actually cancelled it?

I purchased return flights to Cancun for an all-girls trip—there are six of us in the group. Today, I received an email saying that our inbound flight had been cancelled.

I immediately panicked and called Flair to find out why the airline had cancelled our flight. To my surprise, I was told that we had apparently cancelled the flight ourselves.

The problem is, none of the six people in our group cancelled the reservation or even had the reservation information needed to do so. They insist that the cancellation was made yesterday at a specific time. Coincidentally, at that exact time, all six of us were together, excitedly talking about our upcoming trip. There is absolutely no reason any of us would have cancelled it.

I filed a written complaint and asked Flair to provide information about the cancellation, including the IP address associated with the cancellation and the last name used to access the reservation. However, they told me they could not provide either piece of information and claimed their system does not track or record it.

I honestly find this extremely difficult to accept. In the technology-driven world we live in, how is it possible that there is no record of who accessed the reservation or where the cancellation request came from? There has to be some kind of audit trail for a transaction that resulted in six passengers being charged cancellation fees.

We are now completely at a loss. We originally paid approximately $270 per person, but the same flight is now around $600 per person. Flair charged us $103 cancellation fees per passenger, and after several emails back and forth, they offered us $157 in credit per person, which they presented as a consolation.

But how does that actually help us? The replacement flight through Flair is now around $600. We still have our outbound flight confirmed with Flair, so we are essentially stuck.

The whole situation just doesn’t make sense. We did not cancel these flights, yet Flair is treating the cancellation as though we did and is leaving us to pay the much higher current fare.

I’m posting this because I would really like to know if anyone else has experienced something similar with Flair—particularly a reservation being cancelled and the airline claiming the customer initiated the cancellation when they didn’t.

At this point, I am extremely frustrated and honestly feel like something is not right with what happened. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has experienced a similar situation or knows what steps we can take next.
