I don't really know where to start. I guess I just need an outside perspective because I've been keeping these thoughts to myself for a while.
I've been involved with this Chinese guy for two years. I'm not Chinese, and we still don't have an official label.
The complicated part is that I know he loves me. He's been there for me during some of the darkest moments of my life. He's seen me at my lowest, and he stayed. He's been someone I could lean on when life felt overwhelming, and I will always be grateful for that. It's difficult to imagine walking away from someone who has been such an important part of my life. But two years is a long time to be in this kind of situation, and lately, I've started wondering where this is all going.
Another thing I think about is our different backgrounds. I don't come from money. I work for what I have, and I'm planning to return to medical school. I'm trying to build a future for myself, and I know I still have a long way to go.
Sometimes I wonder whether our differences, especially our cultural and financial backgrounds, could become an issue if we ever decided to take things seriously. I don't know if I'm overthinking this or if these are things I should be considering.
I don't want to make him the villain in this story because he has genuinely been good to me in many ways. That's what makes this so difficult. It's not a situation where I'm being mistreated and need someone to tell me to leave. I care about him deeply, and I he cares about me, too he also helps me with my business.
But I also don't want to spend years in a situation where I love someone and act like their partner without knowing whether they actually see me as their future.
I'm not asking for a perfect relationship or for him to have everything figured out. I just want to know that we're moving toward something and that I'm not the only one imagining what our future could look like.
Part of me is scared that if I walk away, I'll lose someone who genuinely loves me. Another part of me is scared that if I stay, I'll eventually regret the time I spent waiting.
For those who have experienced something similar, especially relationships involving different cultures or financial backgrounds, how did you know whether the relationship had a future?
Can someone genuinely love you and still not be ready to commit after two years? And how do you know when being patient is no longer worth it?
I'd appreciate honest advice. I'm not necessarily looking for people to tell me to leave him. I just want to understand whether I'm being reasonable for wanting more after two years.
