Competition Masterpost 🐓Grand Prix de France Master Post 🇫🇷

The time has come......

cue dramatic music

THE SENIOR GRAND PRIX SERIES IS STARTING! Six events, six countries, in six weeks. Let's do this. Each event in the series will have 12 men, 12 women, 8 pairs, and 10 ice dance teams. Skaters receive points based on where they place, top six with the most points at the end of six weeks will head to the Grand Prix Final.

Our first visit is to Angers, France, where we will be most likely treated to some very French cinematography.

It's hard to pick out skaters to really highlight, because these groups are generally stacked and they all should be highlighted! Olympic Champion Mikhail Shaidrov will be here, Adam Siao Him Fa, Kao Miura, Olympic Bronze medalists Ami Nakai and Lara Naki Gutman, Sarah Everhardt, Gabby Daleman! The pairs competition is going to be incredibly interesting here as well, with Metelkina/Berulava going against Boikova/Kozlovskii. Ice dancers CPom, Davis/Smolkin, and Fournier Beaudry/Cizeron will certainly keep the competition interesting.

I'm so excited it's Grand Prix Season.

Competition Masterpost 🇭🇺CS Budapest Trophy Master Post

It's the last challenger before the Grand Prix starts!! This week, we are traveling to Budapest. For the men, Kevin Aymoz is making his international season debut, Lukas Britschgi is in the mix, and Daniel Grassl gets in one last competition before the GP. The list of men is long and notable!

For Women, there are 37 competitors.... So it'll be a long, fun few days of watching. Notable competitors here are Maddie Schizas, Kimmy Repond, Julia Sauter, Sophie Jolie von Felton, and Olga Mikutina. There has been some movement with the AIN athletes, but currently Alina Gorbacheva is the only one listed on the official ISU website.

No pairs here this weekend, but the ice dance field is just as packed as the men and women with 23 entries. The Taschlers are getting in another competition and will be joined by Smart/Dieck and Bratti/Somerville.

Going to be a big week in Budapest! And that's without really detailing the juniors, of which there are several as well, with 29 entries for Women and 22 Ice Dance entries.

I know this was carefully curated to show only the best moments, but those moments do look good, right? I feel like there's a match to their lines that wasn't there in the early videos.

Auto-translated video caption said "competition simulation", I think that's why we hear their names announced in the beginning.

Unfortunately, this takes them out of the GP series after they already withdrew from Cup of China. Mishina/Galliamov are next up on the alternate list, followed by Mukhortova/Evgenyev and Shin/Howe (Chikmareva/Ianchenkov already being assigned to Finlandia)

I particularly 💖 this performance of her R & J, and this version of her dress too. Take note of her facial expressions throughout and as the commentator says "it's as if the music was written for her." What a stunning and captivating performance, just perfection.

r/FigureSkating • • 19h ago

Question During the first season IJS was introduced, Sasha Cohen did a serpentine step sequence that included a split jump for two competitions. Has anyone else done a split jump in a step sequence? I think maybe Jason Brown?

Super leagues (which I think this sub can and should take full credit for inspiring) are now available for Rocker Skating fantasy!

If you are a league creator you can go to your league page and request to join the Reddit super league. (I didn’t even request mine tbh I just went and checked and it was already added? Jackie you lurker…)

Exciting that we’ll now have our own leaderboard for this sub going forward :) Thanks Mr. Rockerskating!

This might be geoblocked since it’s on CBC sports. Interesting to hear Piper talk about the ice dance results and scoring

Edit: just finished watching this. They talked about thinking that F/C were over scored, especially for the RD, and that cizeron had a lot of two footed skating, and that Cpom should’ve won the RD lol

I will love this image forever. Yuna looks so cute and somehow teacher-esque with her glasses. Also, I thought Rion was 19😭 turns out she’s 23 and if she’d landed her 4T this year she would’ve continued to be the oldest woman to land a quad in competition! Oh and Kao is also there lol.

Question Rion Sumiyoshi vs Mao Shimada 4T

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Since we just saw Rion attempt the quad toe at GP France (unsuccessfully 😭😭, hoping she will land it at GP Finland) and Mao Shimada we will see attempt hers at Skate Canada, I wanted to see how their technique differs, the pros and cons of their technique, why maybe one is more consistent than the other, and if their 4T’s are sustainable. This is not to take anything away from their achievements, they are the only 2 women in Japan attempting the 4T right now and while Rion may have not been so consistent on it, it is a huge achievement for her to be the first Japanese woman to have landed one!
