Just shouting into the void here I guess, but I'm within about 200Mill of getting the recommended 7.5.Bil required to purchase my first fleet carrier and had to tell someone - Me missus looked at me as if I'd three heads when I told her....
Been playing the game since release, an early 2014 xmas pressie from me missus (and, at risk of showing my age here - before that, the original elite on BBC micro and then Elite II on my 286PC) and it's been a journey.
Throughout my commanders life, I reckon we've went through four full pc upgrades, multiple monitors, a triple screen setup and now running my fancy ultrawide. There's been three sticks \ throttles - starting with a lowly Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS, then up to another Thrustmaster T1600 setup and now onto my (apparently much maligned) Thrustmaster X56 HOTAS setup that I'm using now (3 years and it's never missed a beat!) and now I'm eventually ready to take the plunge into endgame, if endgame exists for a game such as Elite Dangerous.
I'm a Dad-casual player, grabbing 2-3 hours when I can, I've dabbled in quite a few pastimes the game offers us, a bit of exploration, a bit of exobiology, space taxi, some 'rat hunting, tried my hand at a bit of mining and playing with various builds and ships- I never really got into the ground combat stuff much as it just never called out to me, but mostly I've been a space trucker, hauling stuff for credits, and as of today Elite V Trader!
Think that's my thang - always has been, even since the OG original. Started, same as most people in the hauler and worked me way up though various Type 7 & Type 9 fitments and am now dragging a moderately tweaked Panther clipper MkII around using Inara to get the best bang for buck routes. I'm still enjoying the game, even dipped some real world money once or twice for some of the cosmetics and new ships if they've tickled my curiosity.
The game's evolution has been a journey too, from somewhat sparse beginnings and a learning cure like a cliff for new players, even now, without the third party apps it can be a bit daunting to grasp the sheer scope and size of all of the mechanics. There have indeed been periods of burnout (engineers - I'm looking at you) and I've even stopped playing for months at a time due to family / personal stuff that has cropped up through the years.
I'm aware there's some very valid criticisms leveled at the game, but the new content, once it's been fettled a bit, patched and balanced, has been pretty good I think - and most telling of all, I'm still here, doing my Carebear, solo space trucking thang - and I'm still having fun.
Looking forward to what the Fleet Carrier brings, Hopefully have it within the next few days at my current rate! Then on to bigger and better things! Maybe can finally do that Colonia run I've been meaning to do...
So, yeah, just shouting into the void, like I said - but it's been a helluva a journey and many, many hours worth of (mostly) fun with it, even 12 years later!
The subreddit has been a massive boon for advice too - I'd have been lost without you lot as well!
o7 Commanders - & Safe flying!
