We lost our Ruby in July to Doberman Hepatitis. We were totally devastated. The only way through it for us was to get another. This is Penny. She is 13 weeks old today. Life is too short not to have a Doberman. She has brought joy to our life again.

Mourning I’ll never not miss you

I’ve been really struggling with the loss of my boy especially now that we’re coming up on the one years without and I don’t know how to “move on”. Idk I started typing this wanting to talk but all i’ve done is cry and cry for the last month since the one year of his heart failure diagnosis.

Koda honey baby boy, Mommy misses you so much bubsy and my heart still beats to keep me around to love you longer. No amount of time together would have ever been “enough” for me. The trauma you healed me from while we worked through yours is something I will never take for granted. You are still my hero and my savior and I’m still fighting for you. I know you’re side eyeing me with pride in your heart but god I would give it all to smell you one last time. You know i’ve struggled with sleep since before our stories became one but YOU DID IT SWEETHEART! You visited me in a dream I finally remembered and it was so vivid I had a moment where I truly forgot. I don’t know what to do without you and it’s still not getting easier. I love you my tinky rinky angel so much it hurts and I wouldn’t give away a second of that love to erase a year of pain.

Training, Temperament, & Behavior Tips for teething phase? My living room is destroyed

Thumbnail

I have a 4.5 mo old Dobie / Aussie mix. Despite having plenty of toys, bones, pupsicles, bully sticks, rope toys, and frozen teething toys she decided to chew up our carpeting, couch and walls in our living room today. She’s also been gnawing on our coffee table and brick fireplace. I try the bitter apple spray but it doesn’t deter her for long.

It looks like she’s got all of her front top and bottom adult teeth in now, but still has all the side ones and molars to go 😭 how much longer will the teething last? We had a German shepherd mix as a puppy and his teething wasn’t nearly as intense and only lasted til maybe 5-6 months old.

Any tips appreciated to survive this phase! Pics for proof of land shark

Baby broke his leg about 8 weeks ago. We have just been officially cleared to "resume normal activity over the course of the next 2 weeks" a few days ago. Of course while the nice tech was telling me the results the little guy was sprinting around us in circles because they give cheese as way to get dogs to hold still for xrays where we went, and he took his piece of string cheese and wanted to show me before eating it. He is so happy that he can play again. I am so glad I don't have to keep him from having fun as much 😭

Breeder Reviews Puppies

Hi there,

Currently in the process of looking for a doberman pup to add to our home. We are in Ontario, and with the recent ban, and (controversial, I know) but I want a dobe that is current breed standard. For that reason, I am looking for advice.

Do I simply just look to the USA for reputable breeders close enough to the border that I can drive to pick one up? Does it cost astronomical amounts to have them shipped?

Will/can breeders in Canada bring their litters to the US to get the docking/cropping done? Is this also going to drastically increase the cost?

Does anyone in Ontario/Canada currently have litters available that will be docked/cropped before the ban? If so, who are they?

So many questions, and I hope someone can help guide my process a little better.

Thanks in advance

Health Skin issues

Hi everyone!
My 2.5-year-old Dobermann has been having some skin issues. She has these little “pimples” or crusty spots on her back, and the fur around her shoulders feels bumpy rather than smooth. However, when I look closely, I can’t see anything underneath the fur that would explain the bumpy texture.
She had some minor skin issues around the same time last year, which seemed to resolve after changing her food to Purina Pro Plan Salmon, which she is still eating.
Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Has anyone experienced something similar with their Dobermann? Is there anything I can do to help her?
For now, I’m trying to keep her skin moisturized with Idraderm Spray.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Training, Temperament, & Behavior Hazelnut still soothes herself this way. I know they usually pick a toy but seriously she won’t give up the arm.

Bambi is in the running for a costume contest at the place she goes to daycare for a chance to win free daycare passes! Help a girl out so she can play and eat leaves at daycare without breaking mom's wallet, lol.

She's dressed as a clown - fitting for a goofy, lovable girl like her.

Remove if not allowed. I don't have any pages for her so she hasn't gotten a lot of attention compared to the other Insta doggies in there. I just want to give her a chance!! (and to show off her cute costume to everyone at the very least)

We appreciate it and hope you love her costume!

(She is a rescue, and came to us the way she is... and we love her to pieces!)

Mourning Goodbye friend, my sweet Barrett

I've been lurking in this sub for the past almost 10 years and always felt the pain when I read one of these posts, but today I'm the one making the post.

I don't have to explain the larger than life personality of a Dobie to you all, and Barrett exemplified that. He was the dog that barked like a madman until I opened the door for you, then he immediately grabbed a toy and forced you to play with him. He was the stubborn one that refused to go out despite being asked 100 times, until the second I sat down to eat. He helped many of my friends and even strangers get over a fear of big dogs, and would take treats from a child with the most gentle of care.

He would have been 10 in just a few weeks and I am happy for every day that we got to spend together. As all of my fellow Dobie owners know, every part of your daily routine revolves around these pups and I'll never get used to the change, especially because I got him just as I moved into my house and have been here ever since. I can't even go say good morning to my fiance in bed because every day since we've been dating, he would force himself between us and demand that we pay him attention instead of hugging each other and it's too painful to not have that interruption from him.

I ask that all of you give your pups a hug and an extra treat today for Barrett. I love you and I will miss you forever friend. ❤️😞🐾🌈

Training, Temperament, & Behavior Service Dog Story

Post image
195 Upvotes

My little dobie is a service dog in training, we go everywhere together. Scheels in particular is a great place to take her because it’s dog friendly, busy, and has a lot of training points. I was working with her on moving thru a crowd when we came across another dog, it was a very large black GSD wearing a service dog vest and the lady also had a smaller mixed breed with them. We took a wide path around them because I didn’t want to disturb her or her dogs, the problem was she was sitting in a main walkway with no other path around, as we walked by the GSD lunged at my dobie and grabbed her back leg in its mouth. My puppy started screaming while the other dog pissed everywhere and then started to come for my puppy. I reacted and kicked the GSD in the head hard enough to get it to let go and then picked up my girl. I was busy checking her for punctures and when I turned around to confront the lady her and her dogs were literally sprinting out of the store. As they were fleeing the GSD went after a small child and the tiny dog with her but luckily the lady pulled it away this time.

My puppy was fine and had no punctures, and didn’t develop any fear or apprehension from the attack.

TLDR;
Regardless of what vest a dog is wearing you should never trust that they are what the vest claims. Always assume that another dog will be triggered and come for your dog and keep enough distance to react. Also that lady knew her dog was reactive and should have never brought it out into public.

Training, Temperament, & Behavior Shadow the conundrum

Thumbnail

So I am adopted Shadow from the pound back in Aug. He is about 3 years old. Hes amazing and a total sweetheart. He is absolutely glued to me at home which is perfect because I am low key obsessed with him. We love to go on walks but thats where the struggles are. He is up my butt at home, but on walks he doesn't seem to pay me any attention to me. He isn't really persuaded with liver treats and wants to pull. I started using a prong collar and that helps somewhat with the pulling. He is 50/50 on lunging for passing dogs. He is not dog aggressive and does fabulous at doggy daycare. Ive taken to just picking him up when he chooses to yank instead of look and keep walking. He seems to know the leave it and heel commands but just isn't interested in walking next to me. With him not being food interested trying to use treats to keep his attention on walks isnt working. He will stop and alert to changes around us, like people walking out from between cars but when there is nothing he just charges forward. Any suggestions?

Research Tips curving inward at the top after unposting — do I need a bridge or bumper?

Thumbnail

Hey everyone, looking for some posting advice from experienced Dobie owners!

My pup is doing great with the posting process overall, and the base strength feels solid. However, after taking down the posts, the tips are curling noticeably inward toward each other at the very top (almost touching/claw-shaped).

Included photos of the unposted result and the current posting/cone setup.

Posts stay up clean, but I’m wondering if this is caused by posting them pulled too tight towards the center, or if adding a spacer/bridge adjustment is the right fix here.

Should I stop bridging, adjust where the backer rod sits, or look into bumpers? Any feedback or tweaks to the routine would be massively appreciated!
