NEWS Coinbase says customer contact data got exposed through its analytics vendor Amplitude, but funds are safe
Coinbase put out a statement today. A security incident at Amplitude, an analytics company they use, exposed contact info for a "small subset" of customers.
What they're saying:
- Coinbase's own systems weren't accessed
- Customer funds weren't touched
- They're notifying affected users and regulators
- Other Amplitude clients got hit too
What they're NOT saying: how many people. A researcher from SlowMist posted "over 70k," but that's unconfirmed. It's also almost the same number as the 2025 insider breach (about 69k), so some people might be mixing the two up.
Main thing: expect a wave of fake "Coinbase support" calls and texts. Coinbase will never call you to move funds or ask for your 2FA code. Hang up and open the app yourself.
That's two crypto data leaks in one week now, after Keystone. Anyone getting sketchy Coinbase messages already?

NEWS Google searches for "Bitcoin" have hit a 5-year low.
Google searches for Bitcoin are near a 5-year low. In the US, the week ending August 1 got a Google Trends score of 18 out of 100, which is the kind of grade that gets you a polite email from a teacher.
Then in October, global searches for "bitcoin" and "BTCUSD" hit multi-year lows, so the timeline is not imagining it. Even the relative who explains Bitcoin to everyone at family dinners has gone suspiciously quiet.
Before anyone writes an obituary, a reminder of what Google Trends actually measures. It measures curiosity. It does not measure ownership, trading volume or on chain activity. And a lot of the biggest money, ETFs, pension funds and OTC desks, has never typed a search into Google in its life. Those desks have better things to do than check whether "bitcoin" is trending.
So Bitcoin is not being forgotten, it is being left on read. The coins are still there, the blocks keep coming, and the only thing that went quiet is the search bar.
No price talk and no predictions here, just vibes and a Google Trends score.

TECHNICALS Bitcoin Core Canceled Its Own Release. I Wish More Tech Companies Would. After four release candidates and a final code tag, maintainers stopped 32.0. The decision reveals what protecting Bitcoin actually requires.
Bitcoin Core canceled its own release.
I wish more tech companies had that discipline.
Months of development. Four release candidates. A final source-code tag.
Then last-minute issues changed the plan.
The maintainers withheld 32.0 and moved to 32.1 with additional fixes.
Think about the pressure at that moment. The work is almost finished. People expect an announcement. Shipping now and fixing things later would be tempting.
They stopped anyway.
A version number should never become an obligation.
Bitcoin’s software is written by humans. It needs careful review, testing, and people willing to raise inconvenient concerns—even when everyone else is ready to celebrate.
Public code only helps when someone examines it.
Tests only help when people take their findings seriously.
And a commitment to reliability means being willing to change the release plan.
That’s why this story deserves attention beyond Bitcoin.
The closer a release gets to the finish line, the more valuable it is to have people who can still say “wait.”
I unpack what happened, what the fixes actually addressed, and what this reveals about Bitcoin’s development culture in the full article. 👇

NEWS Brazil’s market crashed and Stablecoin demand exploded.
Brazilian stocks crashed after Lula’s surprise election win. Investors fear higher spending, rising debt and more government control.
But here's the interesting part.
USDT trading volume on Mercado Bitcoin surged nearly 800%.
Companies were moving money into dollar linked stablecoins to protect themselves from a falling currency.

NEWS Tether’s Next Bitcoin Power Play: The Software Behind the Miners.
Tether just brought 15 Bitcoin mining players together around one software framework.
Bitmain. MicroBT. Foundry. F2Pool.
The pitch: connect the machines, cut operational friction, and build the foundation for AI automation.
The stakes go deeper.
Shared software could help smaller miners compete. It could also leave independent operators depending on the same code—and exposed to the same mistakes.
Owning the machines doesn’t automatically mean operational independence.
That’s what makes Tether’s MDK worth watching.
Will miners gain more freedom—or become dependent on software they can’t afford to leave?

NEWS Keystone breach got worse: hackers stole the key that verifies its wallets are genuine, 18,835 devices to be destroyed
Timeline so far:
- Oct 20: Keystone detects an intrusion on its website
- Oct 24: discloses a customer data leak (names, addresses, order records)
- Oct 26: reveals the attacker also got the WebAuth key used to verify devices as genuine
That key is burned into devices at the factory and can't be changed, so in theory it could let counterfeit wallets pass Keystone's authenticity check. Keystone is destroying 18,835 devices in stock and holding orders until new ones ship with a new key.
Not affected: recovery phrases, private keys, wallet passwords.
Keystone says devices verified before Oct 20 are considered safe. If you got one after Oct 20, they ask you to contact support. And with names and home addresses leaked, expect fake "Keystone support" refund scams. Never type your seed phrase anywhere.
Anyone here using a Keystone? Sticking with it?

STRATEGY Is Polygon dead, or does it still have a future?
I’ve been wondering what people think about Polygon lately.
For those who have been following Polygon:
- Do you think Polygon is still relevant in the crypto space?
- Does POL have real long-term potential, or has it lost its momentum?
- Are developers and users still active on the network?
- Would you buy POL at current prices, hold what you have, or stay away completely?
I bought Polygon a few years ago for around $2,000, and now my investment is worth about $400. I’m thinking about buying more. What do you guys think? Is it worth investing more, or should I cut my losses?

NEWS Ripple gets final OCC approval for its national trust bank. Here's what it can and can't do
The OCC granted final approval for Ripple National Trust Bank on Oct 26, after conditional approval back in Dec 2025.
What it can do:
- Manage the reserves behind RLUSD
- Act as collateral trustee for RLUSD holders
- Offer crypto custody
What it can't do:
- Take deposits or offer FDIC-insured accounts. It's a trust bank, not a regular bank
- RLUSD is still issued by Standard Custody & Trust Company. The bank adds federal oversight of the reserves
For XRP the effect is indirect at best. Early reaction was pretty muted.
Big step for stablecoins or just a headline? Not financial advice.

DISCUSSION How close does a stop loss actually fill on a thin EVM pool?
Say a small coin dumps 20% in one candle and blows straight past your stop
With Pump fun adding TP/SL for EVM positions now, im curious how people handle that. are you getting filled anywhere near your trigger or just wherever the liquidity is when it hits?

DISCUSSION Fed decides Wednesday and Bitcoin is sitting right on $80K. Holding or selling before the announcement?
Bitcoin slipped under $80K on Saturday (low around $79.2K) and has been hovering around that line since.
What's weighing on it:
- Iran tensions pushing oil up, which feeds inflation fears
- Leveraged long positions getting liquidated on the way down
- About $773M pulled from Bitcoin ETFs over Thursday and Friday
- Everyone de-risking before the Fed
The Fed announces its rate decision Wednesday at 2 p.m. ET. Markets mostly expect a hold, but the Fed already hiked in September and a December hike is widely expected. A surprise hike Wednesday would probably hit crypto hard.
Levels people are watching: around $79K support, $78K below that, and $82K to look healthy again.
Not financial advice. What are you doing before Wednesday? Holding, selling, or waiting to buy the dip?

FUNDAMENTALS Honest question about crypto?
Why did you invest in crypto? Obviously many people make investments because of the perceived returns. But I would like to know the motivation. Is it the belief of what crypto will do and therefore, your hope that at a time in future, the project will gain value and change the world or was it honestly due to speculation? What is your current feeling about crypto?

Discussion Anthropic isn’t even public yet and people are already trading it?
Just saw the news about Anthropic filing for an IPO yesterday. Kinda crazy how much hype there is around AI right now.
What’s even crazier is that people are already trading Anthropic’s valuation on crypto platforms before the stock is even listed lol.
Not sure if that’s actually a smart way to get in early or just another way to gamble on hype. Are you trading these pre-IPO markets or not?

Discussion Any zero-fee platforms that allow crypto shorting?
I shorted ETH with $100 at 20x leverage on Kraken and paid:
$16 opening fee
$16 closing fee
$5 margin fee
Made $7 gross but lost $30 after fees. A $1482 price drop breaks even but that doesn't even happen in a year...
Ideally, I want to short BTC from $80,144 to $79,673 (red to blue line in screenshot) using $100 at 20x leverage. That’s $11.76 gross profit, but Kraken’s fees wipe it out.
Any platforms that allow shorting with zero or very low fees so I can keep most of the profit?

DISCUSSION The $10 Insult: Why Congress’s De Minimis Tax Exemption Betrays Everyday Earners—and Locks Bitcoin in a Golden Cage.
Why does the United States Congress treat foreign central bank currencies 20x better than Bitcoin?
Under Section 988(e) of the Internal Revenue Code, an American citizen can spend $1,500 worth of Euros or Swiss Francs, realize up to $200 in exchange-rate profit per transaction, and owe $0 in taxes with zero IRS paperwork.
Meanwhile, under the flagship crypto tax bills moving through Congress right now (H.R. 10357 and the ADAPT Act), if a working-class American spends $14.50 over the Lightning Network to buy lunch, it triggers a taxable barter disposition on IRS Form 8949.
Even worse: the much-hyped "$10 de minimis exemption" inside H.R. 10357 only exempts the network transaction fee—not the purchase itself. Congress exempted the postage stamp and kept the letter inside fully taxable.
Why? Follow the incentives:
- Wall Street got everything it asked for: Institutional lending safe harbors, mark-to-market accounting, and ETF trust protections.
- Dollar stablecoins got a monopoly: Zero capital gains on spending and immunity from wash-sale rules—because stablecoins force everyday spenders to hold T-bill-backed dollars that silently pay the annual inflation tax.
- Everyday Bitcoiners got handcuffs: A 30-day wash-sale ban, constructive-sale rules, and permanent taxation of miners on unsold block rewards.
Inside "The $10 Insult"—and why the state is terrified of letting Bitcoin circulate as everyday money 👇
