Every year I tell myself I'm going to be smarter about seasonal sales, and every year something boring in my life breaks right before the big sale noise starts. This time it's my car floor situation. The driver's side mat is curled, the rear one slides around, and after a wet week the carpet underneath was damp enough that I had to pull everything out and air out the car. So yes, I know Black Friday deals in 2026 will probably make a bunch of floor mats look tempting, but I'm trying to avoid buying the cheapest thing just because the price looks good for ten minutes. My last mistake was buying a universal set that seemed fine in the aisle, then moved around, smelled weird in summer, and somehow made cleaning harder because dirt got trapped under the edge. That was not frugal. It was just paying twice for an obvious mistake. I'm trying to make a little checklist before buying anything: does it actually fit the car, does it lock in place, does it smell, does it get stiff in winter, can it be rinsed without taking a whole afternoon, and will the edges stay flat after a few months? I don't care about luxury, logos, or making the interior look premium. I care about not turning a small problem into three purchases over two years. For frugal folks, how do you decide when the cheaper fix is good enough?

Im working on a 1974 VW transporter ,1.8l engine code AW-A, and im having trouble finding an alternator w/ an internal regulator. I can find alts for the 1.6l but seem to be comming up dry for the 1.8l. I probably just suck at searching lol, so if anyone could assist that would be awesome.

The HVAC system on my 2001 Chevy Silverado works, but the directional control does not work. This is a picture of the mode door actuator (I think) and a picture of what I thought I needed as a replacement. I can’t seem to find another replacement part that looks like what is already installed. I am able to move the wheel manually and it changes modes and it twists the knob, but I can’t turn the knob to change directions. Help finding the part that I need here or a fix so that what I have here works would be greatly appreciated!

Does anyone know where I can get intakes for my car that are good and priced right I have downpipe front pipe tune and exhaust I want to get intakes but shop is charging me 750 for them

As titles says I have wires connected to my front struts and I’d like to clean up the engine bay a little.

I do know my car used to have electric adjustable suspension but they were replaced with regular struts (as far as I’m aware).

Can I remove the wiring and all its connected to including the metal piece on top of the struts or might that cause problems?

Car is a 1984 Mazda 929 HB Coupe.

Unplugging the wiring from the loom had no effect on the car running and driving as normal. Just want to double check with the internet professionals.
