Bros,
Girl Dad needs some crochet instruction help!
My daughter really likes making little animals (amigurumi, as I have learned to call them). I really like making software (and I really, really like my daughter). So, nerd that I am, I’m making a crochet design tool to help her design her own creatures. She can create pieces, tube, cones, etc and drag and drop arrange them. Then my tool will (hopefully) spit out useful instructions to actually make them. I'm just starting to learn about crochet, and wow there has been a lot to try and learn! I'm not (yet?) really a crocheter, so I’m trying to understand what makes instructions clear / useful / easy to follow.
Below is an example of some sample output, and I am trying to understand if I got the stitch-marker wording right (or really if anything could be clearer).
Instruction Excerpt:
sc = single crochet; inc = 2 sc in the same stitch.
Work in continuous rounds without joining or turning. All stitches are worked through both loops.
You have just completed Round 3, which has 12 stitches. Use two locking stitch markers of different colors.
Round 4: Sc in each stitch around. As you work, place a blue marker in the first stitch you make and a red marker in the seventh stitch you make. (12 stitches)
For the following rounds, move the blue marker into the first stitch of each new round as soon as you have made that stitch. Leave the red marker attached to the same stitch it marked in Round 4; it will be a reference for sewing later.
Round 5: [Sc in the next stitch, inc in the next stitch] 6 times. (18 stitches)
Round 6: Sc in each stitch around. (18 stitches)
Stop after Round 6 and leave both markers in place.
Questions:
- At the end of Round 6, which stitch would you understand each marker to be attached to?
- What is unclear or awkward about how to follow these directions?
- Is it clear what to do when crocheting past the red marker?
- Anything else would you change?
Any suggestions for more normal/natural/common ways to say things are very welcome too.
Thanks so much for helping a bro!
