My fiance bought a small box of jalapenos Peppers because he wanted me to make salsa.. he made the mistake of sitting them on top of the desk which is at hip level Maybe and then left the room with my 1-year-old Malinois Ulrich unintended in the room.... my dog ate the whole box of jalapeno peppers we had to take him to the vet, he didn't seem bothered but spicy stuff like that isn't good for them so took him to the vet, they gave him medicine and told me to monitor him.. currently he just has explosive diarrhea and seems to have a big of a stomach ache but is acting fine, we're going back tomorrow just to do a check up, probably would have left him there but they didn't have any room unless it was a life or death emergency which it did not seem to be... I am very annoyed at my fiance though I know it was a mistake, and I am also annoyed that the fact that my dog even ate them.. I can barely lick one and I start crying I don't know how he managed to eat the whole box and didn't seem like his mouth was on fire.
Also if you're wondering why I call it a dumb vet bill, it's because it was solely human error that caused it, and the fact that he either has a very high spice tolerance or was dumb enough to keep eating (yes I called my dog dumb because he's my dog and I can even though he's actually quite smart)

My bf and I have a 1.5 year old Mal/german shepherd mix. although she loves us both, her behavior towards each of us is very different.
She absolutely adores my boyfriend, listens to every command and worships the ground he walks on. I think she would actually crawl into his skin if she could. sheās predominately his dog, and he did most of the work training her and entertaining her as a puppy.
as for me, iām a heater at night time, a ball throwing machine, and a breakfast dispenser. sheās kind of a brat when itās just me and her at home. the moment bf steps out of the house she runs to do all the things she knows not to do (drinking toilet water, beating up the cat etc) and does not care if she gets crated or yelled at. she steals food off the counters, and pulls so hard on the leash i canāt take her on walks, i play with her in the yard instead.
i would like to clarify sheās not aggressive at all, thatās not a behavior that differs between us. she lets me take away her ball, toys, etc with no problem.
Iām not sure why she has created a pecking order in our house, but iām clearly at the bottom and iād like to change that. when he reprimands her she like shrinks into herself and actually looks sorry, when i do the same thing she kinda wags her tail and runs off like āyeah whateverā
Iām wondering if sheās jealous of me, whenever my bf and i hug or laugh together she gets right up in between us and will whine or bark for attention from him. or im wondering if itās maybe bc he did all the feeding and training when she was little? i didnāt like her as a puppy, he brought her home without asking and she ate all my stuff so maybe she sensed my disdain for her. (she and i are cool now that sheās older and has chilled out a bit)
I donāt think her behavior is from boredom, she gets plenty of outside time with us playing with her, lots of toys to chew on and we play food games, or train with her. we take her out on car rides or hiking. I think she does it for the love of the game, bc she knows better but will wait for my bf to leave to transform into her evil alter ego.
any training tips or changes we should make will be appreciated. we canāt afford a trainer but im willing to work with her to better her behavior.
now that ive ripped on her thoroughly i do wanna say shes a fantastic dog and has so much potential, shes just so smart and i want to direct that drive and intelligence into something thats not gonna make me wanna rip out my hair.

It's a shame because he's a big softy when it comes to people, even small children he's gentle around them. But... other dogs outside he turns Into Mike tyson. I've booked a trainer in 3 weeks to learn to get rid of that reactiveness but I want to start on it ASAP. He's nearly 5 and I've had him since 8 weeks. The reactiveness has only started over the last 2 years. Socialised since a pup but I was living in quite a disruptive household. Hes a lot more relaxed now hes in a realxed house. He's walked on a slip lead that clips aroind my torso, harness, over expensive muzzle and sometimes a 2nd lead to clip onto the front of the harness to allow more control depending on the place. The constant barking and pulling to get at other dogs is annoying as hell. Any tips to combat dog form Mike in his hayday

I'd imagine this question is asked a lot in this sub, here is another one.
Background info: I'm debating taking in a Belgian Mallinois to my home. I (21M) live with my fiance (21F). We have 2 cats and a 1 year old pit mix. We are pretty active and athletic. I work as an electrician and she works at a hospital.
I have been doing construction work at an older ladys house for awhile, and she has owned dogs all her life. Someone dumped a 1 month old puppy in her backyard, and she took it in as her own. Well she got it DNA tested and its 87% Mal and 13% Shep. She is going to try and take care of it. She told me that if she isnt able to keep up with it, she will hand the dog off to me.
I am willing to invest time and money into training for this dog. But I can't help asking, "Is this too tall of a task to take on." It would definitely be a huge change from what we do regulary with our current pup. We keep our dog active--- 3 miles of walking and 30-40 minutes of chasing a frisbee a day. We have trained him on a few things, working on his reactivity still lol.
We would both love to adopt another dog into the family, we are just unsure if getting a surprise Mallinois of all dogs is a good idea. Attached below is our Bubba

Hallo liebe community,

Hello! I am not a malinois owner nor do I have the intent on owning one, but I am a working dog owner (GSD & beauceron) and dog enthusiast. I would love for someone thatās well versed in the breed to educate me on a few things, as I am just curious.
For starters Iām in America, so any breed standard that I am referring to is strictly the AKC but I would love otherās opinion from different countries. Under the AKC, the only in standard coats are fawn and mahogany. Recently I have come across many people who claim that their solid black dogs are purebred malinois with a proven pedigree. Is this actually true?
Thereās many dark mals that I see online, even some sable colors. I know that natural mutations like melanism are a thing, but these other coats throw me off. And even if the black is naturally occurring from a rare genetic mutation, how come itās so popular?
As a GSD I know that our show lines and working lines have a pretty dramatic split, but our working line colors are still technically within the breed standard. Whatās the difference with Malinois? Is there a difference?
Malinois standard color definition:
Color: The ideal coloring is a rich fawn to mahogany, with black tips on the hairs giving an
overlay appearance. The blackening must not appear as patched or brindled. The underparts of
the body, tail and breeches are lighter fawn. Washed-out fawn color on the body is a fault. The
mask must be pronounced and tends to encompass the top and bottom lip, the corners of the lips
and the eyelids in one single black zone. The mask and ears appear black. The tips of toes may
be white, and a small white spot on the breastbone is permitted, not to extend to the neck. White
markings, except as noted, are faulted. Any color or color combination not described in the
standard should be disqualified.
GSD standard color definition:
Color: The German Shepherd Dog varies in color, and most colors are permissible. Strong rich
colors are preferred. Pale, washed-out colors and blues or livers are serious faults. A white dog
must be disqualified.
My assumption is that these colors are coming from gsdxmal, and if these dogs are supposedly ā100% malā itās likely due to a test not going back far enough. I would love to be corrected though if this isnt the case!
Another thing I am curious about: Iāve read online that dutch shepherd and Malinois apparently come from similar lines or were closely related when developing, does this still make them two entirely different breeds? I know this sounds stupid, I feel stupid for even asking about it, but thereās so much debate online that it has me confused.
I know they are their own breeds with two different standards, what I donāt understand is.. why are so many people calling their brindle dogs a malinois. Why are there so many black malinoisā? IS THERE A DISTINCTION AND IVE BEEN GASLIT?!
I feel like Iām going a bit crazy. As a beauceron owner, I can easily look at a dog and tell you if itās a purebred beauceron or not. But these gsdxmalxdutch āsportā dogs have me SO damn confused, not to mention backyard breeding for colors. Iām also just a very literal person, thereās a good chance these dogs arenāt purebred and itās just easier to call them one breed. Which i get! But i donāt understand the people claiming pure pedigrees.
Literally any form of clarification will help me sleep at night. I would also love pictures of yalls doggies if possibleš«¶

I want to get my boy a jacket that still allows him to move well and doesn't interfere with anything.
I know I might get told he doesn't need it, but he just does not like the cold anything under 30° F and he is absolutely shivering, above that temperature he's fine and doesn't need a coat but below I feel like he could use one, nothing really thick, just something kind of like a windbreaker anyone got any recommendations? A plus if it's fairly inexpensive and at least water resistant

Hi,
Anyone has review about KSDK? Someone I know has two malinois from them and is quite satisfied with her dog. However, Iād like to hear more reviews (both positive and negative) if possible.
Thanks!

Basically, my mal and my baby love playing tug together. I did NOT encourage this lol (and Iām sure there are a million reasons Iām a terrible parent and pet owner because of this but Iām more interested in a different aspect of the situation). They both really enjoy it and they have a few variations. One is my mal runs around the house with a toy while my baby chases him. Another is tug. But inevitably, at some point during tug or chase, my baby will yell/screech, at which point my mal will DROP the item and wait for my baby to go retrieve it š it is absolutely hilarious and I am not sure how it happened? To me, it looks like my baby has somehow trained my mal to drop the toy as soon as he yells. Is this possible?

HI all. There are 2 level 3 Belgians that live next door to me. I personally have a Great Dane/pitbull mix. They are constantly barking at my dog. If I go near the fence, the malanois go nuts - like jumping on the fence and barking, like they are warning me not to come near. It drives me crazyand the owners dont seem to care. The owners tell me that the dogs know me so "its ok" - not sure what that means. is there anything I can do to make this stop? Is it a good idea to bribe them with good treats? I'm guessing no but thought id ask. Any recommendations on what to do?

He was abandoned with his brother and is currently being fostered by a dog trainer. Based off what Iāve heard from the trainer they think he has previous training before being dumped. He knows basic obedience commands, has an understanding of marker words and has a good loose leash walk. He comes with free training for life allegedly and is smart and easy to train I was told as well. Thanks in advance for any advice!
