Where to Autocross 2023

First off, Happy New Year everyone! I apologize if you have been looking for the monthly autocross post. I thought since 80+% of the country is in its offseason, it would be a good time to update the website. So, I started after Christmas and have finally finished. You may have noticed some wonky things on the website since then, but I'm happy to report that everything's back in order and in a place I am comfortable with at the moment.

At this point I cannot say if I will continue to post monthly updates as before. I am currently prioritizing what I need to take care of for 2023 and so, I am hoping maybe a post can get pinned going forward. I can create another one without all this rambling if need be.

Without further ado, I am presenting all of the new ways to find Autocross events and information on ParkingLotRacing.org.

- Where to AutoX this month. This page is set to continually update itself, looking 30 days in advance.

https://parkinglotracing.org/2023-autocross/locations-this-month/

- 2023 AutoX Schedule. On this page, you can search for a club/event and see if their 2023 season schedule is available yet.

https://parkinglotracing.org/2023-autocross/event-schedules/

- Live Timing links. This page continually updates to include live timing links for events within the next week.

https://parkinglotracing.org/2023-autocross/live-timing-this-week/

- Race results. This page continually updates, looking back the past 30 days and provides a link to the club/events results page.

https://parkinglotracing.org/2023-autocross/recent-race-results/

- "My AutoX Schedule." I've create a way for people to track events similar to a planner. You will notice all events, up until the day of, offer a button to "Follow" them. It does require you to create an account so that it can saves everything. This is in it's early stages of development as it requires some serious coding, but I would love for some folks to test out this year and provide some feedback on it.

https://parkinglotracing.org/autocross-events/my-autox-schedule/

That's about it for now. The interface has been updated so feel free to explore the website and check things out. If you see something wrong or missing, please let don't hesitate to let me know.

G86 Racing: recording and comparing individual runs - developer walkthrough

I’m the developer of G86 Racing, from CrowFoundry. I wanted to show the part that may be useful for autocross: recording individual point-to-point runs and reviewing where the speed and elapsed time differ along the course.

The run-review workflow

  1. Prepare the course as a point-to-point layout with separate start and finish lines, or record a learning run and save the full GPS path or a selected section as a reusable track. Check that the saved route and timing lines match the actual course before recording timed runs.

  2. Record each run on your iPhone or Android phone. Local timing, the recorded path and session history are available without an account. You can return to the session and start the next run rather than treating everything as one continuous circuit lap.

  3. With Pro, choose a reference and compare up to four runs over distance. Look at the speed trace and time gap through a section instead of only the finishing time. Shared point-to-point sections can be compared independently when the recorded paths overlap; the comparison does not invent times for undriven sections.

  4. If you recorded onboard video, review it with the run. Pro can export a copy with a telemetry overlay, or export data as CSV, MoTeC i2 CSV, AiM CSV, VBO or JSON for another analysis workflow.

Phone GPS recording and local timing can work offline. Cloud sync and a remote live pit wall need internet. Engine data needs an actual supported source; a phone-only recording does not supply measured throttle or brake channels.

Free / paid

Basic timing and local history are free without an account. A free account adds the track editor, three onboard videos and one Pro demonstration session. Run comparisons, advanced analysis, overlays/exports and external telemetry require Pro. US App Store pricing is $14.99/month or $149.99/year, auto-renewing; current regional/platform prices are shown before purchase.

The attached interface examples use demonstration data, including a circuit comparison. They explain the controls and do not claim a measured autocross accuracy result.

Misery Bay Region SCCA - Last event of the season (10/25)

Misery Bay Region held there last event of the season yesterday at Lake Erie Speedway in North East, PA (which is actually in north west PA...make that make sense). Started off frosty but ended up being a really nice day for almost November. Managed to get a little sun burned.

Club Spec Mustang is hard to beat on shorter courses that don't have any space to use power. A pax that starts with 7 is pretty nice too (taking advantage of that while I still can!). (https://www.mbrscca.com/live/PaxIndexDay1.html)

Good event, good weather, good people, good time!

Car and driving support from StranoParts.com - I am hoping he joins us in CSM next season.

2005 Ford Mustang GT (with 150k miles that I bought for $7500), with full CSM package and Level 2 safety. Between me and codrivers, the car has at least 567 runs on it this season (so far, eyeballing NNJR for my last event this year). It has been pretty solid.

If you haven't driven one, and you have the opportunity, you should really check it out.

Great video about Autocross

Rules may be different in your area. This was 14 years ago SCCA. About 125 cars competed on average every month. Do not miss the ride in the green bug eye at the end that you will swear is sped, up but it is not. Fastest car and driver I have ever seen.

I am…not fast. This was my best run at 80 seconds. Fastest raw time for the whole event was a go-kart than ran a 54.

Has anyone used the PitPay app to join an event?

I am trying to register and the way my state's driver license works, it combines my first and middle name, puts my last name in the middle field, and acts like I don't have a last name. This makes it so I cannot proceed to register.

Has anyone encountered this? Is there a remedy around it? It seems kind of trash that it makes you scan your driver's license and gets it all wrong and then says "lol gfy"

And it's frustrating we even have to use it, because I am clearly driving there, I would have my license on hand for verification that I am a real human, but it seems like I don't get to.

Seeking Tire Advice for an s550 Mustang Bullitt

Hey guys, I'm seeking advice on tires for my Bullitt, primarily for Autocross. I did my first Autocross a couple weeks ago and loved it, but I'm in need of new tires and am having a hard time figuring out what to do. I currently have PS4S tires, but they are about to need replacing. Looking at the Grassroots Motorsports chart here Grassroots Motorsports ultimate track tire guide | Articles | Grassroots Motorsports it seems none of the Super 200s come in the stock sizes (and I'm not looking at Vitours because my preferred shop doesn't have them). I'd like to stay in F Street and don't want to buy new wheels anyway. The stock sizes are 255/40r19 front (wheels are 19x9) and 275/40r19 rear (wheels are 19x9.5). I drive the car a couple times a week for commuting, but it isn't my primary vehicle and I typically don't take it out in really bad weather anyway. Should I just get the Continental Extreme Contact Sport 02 as the next best option in the right sizes, or should I potentially change size to a 255/35r9 and 275/35r19, or other size that would work with the wheels so I can get one of the Super 200s? Thanks in advance! I know a lot of you have valuable experience in this area. Oh, I'm in Central Texas for climate reference.

Ways to increase redline rpm of engine(Other than reducing weight of the car or engine swapping)?

I'm making a street racing game, which will include Rally Racing and Autocross racing as demos, side races and i want the tuning to be a bit more in depth

So basically, my doubt is, imagine a mitsubishi eclipse. It's redline RPM is basically 6000 rpm

Anyway to increase that irl? Other than engine swapping or reducing the weight of the car. And how much do seats usually weigh aswell?

Edit: Can anyone also give me the weight of an eclipse's gearbox? Any generation but i prefer the second

UHP All Seasons - How Usable?

I've been considering moving to a set of ultra high performance all seasons for a general street use tire, and ideally having a dedicated set of performance tires/wheels. However, for cold days/poor conditions, I've been considering taking the UHP AS. There's at least another test and tune in my area in November and December, and it would be nice to not worry about the ambient temps when driving there/back.

Don't care about being slower, I just don't want to destroy a tire while out there. Test and tune might be 30-50 runs over the day with the option to get on the wet skidpad. Would likely be running either Goodyear Eagle F1 AS or Pirelli P Zero AS Plus 3. Running a little more aggressive alignment than stock, 718 Cayman base.

Would a set of UHP AS likely hold up? Any specific pointers for heat management?

Constructive criticism and advice appreciated...
