Cool Craft Weekend Sewing Project: Fall Wardrobe

🍁 I spent the weekend sewing a few new outfits for the dolls. Molly is ready for Thanksgiving in her new dress and a sweater borrowed from Julie. Julie borrowed Claudie’s sweater to complete her new fall sundress look. Felicity is channeling classic ’80s/’90s style with fall plaid pleated skirt, matching top, Cher’s sweater, and Courtney’s tights and boots. And by the time I got around to Courtney, I was all about comfort, so she’s rocking a matching sweatshirt and pants set. They join the rest of the group who got new Samantha-inspired outfits a couple of weeks ago! 🍁

Cool Picture I brought my dolls to school to make a display in our library!

I work at an elementary and middle school. I asked the school librarian if the library had any American Girl doll books and if they would want to display some AG dolls next to the books. The librarian was cool with it so I brought in the 6 dolls that they currently have books for!

I work in an area where AG dolls are probably hard to afford for a lot of parents, so I'm not sure how many students are even familiar with American Girl dolls and their stories. My hope is that students will see the dolls of the main characters on display and be more interested in reading the stories about the girls! 😊

Discussion Which AG character has your favorite books and why?

Fellow AG fans, please help cure my work boredom. What historical or GOTY has your favorite books? Could be that you relate to the character in some way, the writing itself, the time period, the background of the characters, etc.

I tried my best to sew the holes. It was a bit difficult because the fabric is so thin (also because this is my first time sewing). :D Here are some before-and-afters! Let me know what you think!

Ellowyne Wilde getting her Wednesday on with the American Girl cello.

She’s 16” as compared to AG’s 18”, and has a slighter build all around. But I kept thinking that the cello seemed to be scaled a little bit small for the AG girls, and of course their arms are less posable, so I gave it a shot with Ellowyne. Voila! (But not viola.) (Even if half the listings I saw online were showing the violin when I was looking for the cello. Learn your instruments, people.)

Discussion Can people share pics of dolls with short haircuts?

I’ve decided to cut the hair on one of my dolls and I’m looking for inspo pics. If you’ve got a doll with their hair cut shorter than their usual factory style can you please post a pic? Especially dolls with short hair and bangs!

Pic of Wren included just for attention. Her hair is shorter than I’m aiming for but I want to see all the dolls! ☺️

Discussion Why are AG scams so prevalent on Vinted?

I just recently downloaded Vinted and, while late night scrolling (on post surgery medication, mind you) fell for two scams pretty instantly. 😅 When I woke up and came to my senses, I got refunds pretty quickly from support. BUT, now that I am scrolling through new listings, I swear every other listing is pretty clearly a scam (new user, no pfp, no review, too-good-to-be-true pricing, and evidently stolen photos). What’s going on with Vinted? I’ve used Poshmark and Mercari forever and never had this problem! I love that Vinted does no seller fees and free(ish) shipping, but it’s definitely concerning to see.

Awesome Find! Finally got Nellie…

I’ve wanted Nellie for so long. She’s my 41st AG doll. I waited and waited and waited almost bit the bullet a few times on TLC ones but finally the eBay gods threw me a bone. This entire haul was $200! I was shocked! She came with her necklace as well but it made her cloth a little green around the neck so I think I’ll keep that in Samantha’s purse.

Doll Identification Rescue find

Rescued this sweetie today… not sure how to go about cleaning and repairing her.. tag says 2014 but I’m unsure which doll she may be?

Hoping to clean and clothe her and tuck her away until my daughter is a bit older. Though, My OG Molly is on display in our living room and my toddler has recently started to realize she’s there and keeps wanting to play with her but she’s my OG! lol

Am I able to wash the body at all? Good way to clean the hair and nail polish on her face? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated! She was free though so if it’s a lost cause it’s okay 🤍

AG Item Identification Please help, am I crazy?

I am pretty sure that at one point recently while scrolling Ebay I saw a "homemade" version of Caroline's birthday dress for sale from one of those sellers that carries alot of "homemade" AG outfits and miscellaneous general doll accessories. I've been looking and looking for that dress again but can't find it anywhere. Do any of you know if there are any "homemade"/custom versions of this dress available?

PS: Sorry I was not sure which flair was the correct one for this post.

Discussion Which Disney Princess do you think we will get a doll for next?

Post image
54 Upvotes

I was thinking about the AG Disney Princess line and the renewed contract with Disney and Mattel to continue to make dolls. The dolls have been very successful so far and I think it's likely we will get more collector and possibly play doll lines.

I have listed my order of princesses most likely to get a line or ones I would like to see. This is meant to be fun and are just my opinions. Please feel free to let me know what you think and to add your own opinions!

  1. Aurora (Play and Collector):
    • Aurora seems like the perfect doll to add to the existing lineup. Her hair would make her easy for adults and would look different from Cinderella since it is blonde. She is decently popular among adults but I think her biggest draw is that she has many different dresses they can sell as part of the collection. I can easily see them making her main dress pink (AG loves their pink), a blue dress, and a briar rose dress. They also could sell a fairy/accessories set. Overall, the amount of merchandise they could sell in her collection I think makes her a good choice.
    • Outfit/Accessory ideas: Pink dress with blue shimmers (similar to Glinda but reversed colors), Briar Rose Dress and Shawl, 3 Fairies, Basket, Owl with Red cape and hat, the fairy baking set, sideways cake.
  2. Mulan (Play and Collector):
    • Mulan is also another perfect doll to add to the existing line up. Easy to style hair and has more than one outfit they can style her in. She has her classic pink dress as well as green and Mushu as an added accessory. We also don't see a lot of Asian dolls in the AG lineup and I think this would be a great one to add. Her story is such an inspiring one of bravery and would be a great inspiration to see in AG. I went back and forth between putting Mulan or Aurora first, but chose Aurora due to her collection of dresses.
    • Outfit/Accessory ideas: Pink matchmaker dress, green dress, warrior outfit (with sword), cricket in lantern, Mushu
  3. Snow White (Collector Only):
    • Snow White is the classic Disney princess and popular, but I feel would be tough to make as a play doll. She really only has one main dress and it would be difficult to make extra outfits or accessories. I just don't see AG doing a play line of the 7 dwarves. I can see them doing a design similar to Alice in Wonderland with a LE release.
  4. Merida (Collector Only, but unlikely to happen):
    • Don't hate me, I love Merida. She is one of my favorite Disney princesses and is such an amazing break from the "adorkable" characters we have seen in Disney. Unfortunately, Merida merch doesn't sell very well and they don't typically make a lot of it. Similar to Snow White, she really only has one dress and doesn't really have a lot of accessories. I could see them making a collector doll for her, but I don't see that coming out before Aurora, Mulan, or Snow White.
  5. Raya (Collector Only, but unlikely to happen):
    • Overall, Raya's movie and merchandise were not very popular. While I love her more adventurous storyline, I just see the vibe of her as too similar to Mulan with not enough mainstream appeal. It seems like an unlikely choice for AG to make with Aurora, Mulan, Snow White, and Merida.
  6. Pocahontas (Unlikely to happen):
    • Pocahontas is a bit controversial and AG has better Native American representation with Kaya. I would much rather see a Kaya rerelease.

Again, these are just my opinions and not meant to be taken too seriously. Please let me know what you think or which dolls you would like to see.

Restoration Advice on fixing squished, wonky eyes? Mckenna !!

Thumbnail

Hi world! My mom surprised me with Mckenna !!! but im thinking her last owner either stepped on her or sat on her or otherwise crushed her face because her eyes are no longer aligned. I saw the videos on eye replacements but I hope you can understand how intimidating it is 😩

I have no experience with fixing dolls. I have a heat gun to heat up the vinyl if necessary, but I guess what im asking is: Whats the least-invasive way to fix this issue? 2nd Pic shoes the gaps at the bottom of her sockets. Mckenna was the GOTY when I was at my peak interest :)

I took her head off but the idea of squeezing her face around and posaibly damage her more is scaring me.

Very sorry for my word salad, I dont often ask for help but I would really like some more insight

If i used the wrong flair/anything else please let me know !!

Doll Customization What face mold is Alysa Liu?

Thumbnail
gallery
56 Upvotes

I've been thinking on this for quite a while and still am struggling to make a decision, so I thought getting some fresh eyes on it might help. I've seen one person make Alysa using a Jess mold, another two using the Classic mold, plus AG's official photoshop of Team USA that used Truly Me 130 (included in the last slide).

The molds I am not open to are:
- Classic (nose too upturned)
- 4/Asian (see above)
- Joss (see above)
- Kaya (closed-mouth doesn't fit vibe)
- Corinne (cute in photos, never liked it in person)
- Makena (not remotely close)
- Addy (nose is wider than Alysa's)
- Claudie (see above)

So what's left is Josefina, Jess, Sonali, Marie-Grace, and Nanea. I'm just not sure which to choose, and thinking about it so much has been driving me a little bananas, haha. Thank you for your help!

Doll Hair Wig Advice?

Thumbnail
gallery
13 Upvotes

I got this Pleasant Company JLY 9 second hand, and she’s in great condition other than her haircut, which was cut and is too thin to style.

I’ve never re-wigged a doll before and would be a bit nervous to (esp since she’s pleasant company), but it would be nice for her to have thicker hair.

Or is the mullet sorta look she’s got going on a slay? Thoughts? :)

Hey everyone! So about a year ago I thrifted this Luciana for $4! I decided I wanted to try making a custom since her original face paint was jacked lol

But now that I'm done, I can't decide if I like her eyebrows. It took me forever to draw and make them symmetrical, but now I'm worried they're too on fleek LOL

Any advice would be much appreciated 🫶🏼💕
