So, Fridays are a pretty common day to have the procedure done. If you're hanging out, chat about how it's hanging, what you're doing to recover, or anything you want.

Thanks to a late cancellation yesterday, I've been moved up the list. It was originally scheduled last month but the Surgeon was in an accident and all schedules rescheduled.
I joined the waiting list last November, as I understand the NHS has a long waiting list.
Wish me luck!

no scapel method.
my left side was fine - no issues.
my right side had significant pain and discomfort that they had to freeze a couple of times and recheck. I could feel the pain refer to my lower right back and front pelvic area. it was awful.
recovering now, and I can feel the pelvic pain the most when walking or trying to sit down. when lay down flat it‘s better, but still there - almost like the feeling after doing some stomach crunches.
I assume that’s normal? ill keep an eye on the pain I guess and see
anyone else have that? it’s only been 3 hours post op. I’m icing and taking Tylenol. Jesus fuck what a nightmare.

Edit: I am not writing this to stop people from getting the procedure, I'm not aligned with anti-sex right wing organizations or movements that think this is some kind of bodily abomination. I'm quite glad that I am no longer able to get anyone pregnant and in that regard I dont regret it. I posted this because I feel like I've tried every option available to me, and I'm not sure what else to do. I am likely a statistical outlier and if it works for you, go for it. I would in fact recommend it to most men. My procedure was painless and my doctor was great, something just didnt work out for me. I have no intention of getting it reversed even if this never resolves. 🤷
I had a vasectomy in 2023 at a planned parenthood. Following this for about 3 months my libido slowly declined. I saw a urologist and was given viagra.
Great...for a little while. A few months later it stops being as effective. This decline continued to progress until a full year where I had no libido at all. Even on viagra I just cannot get myself interested in sex. I csn achieve an erection with it but it is not satisfying and almost feels numb. I want to have it, but the body just does not respond. Every blue moon something will happen where im able to get excited again but it dissapoears soon after. Its about once every couple months.
I have been to a urologist, gotten my a1c low, I work out every week, I have had an ultrasound on my testicles and found no anomalies and ive seen a pelvic floor therapist AND a normal therapist and i started antidepressants. Ive abstained from porn for a whole month. I got an APAP, I sleep well as often as i can, i get cardio every week. Ive ticked just about every box that people have said will help and I've gotten nowhere. This just leads me to believe the vasectomy is responsible. I have a great partner whom I enjoy having sex with when im able, and theyre perfect. Im grateful for them, but im starting to feel hopeless in this regard.
I just wanted to throw this out there because I know I read early before getting one that it wouldn't affect libido, but it happened to me and theres not really much I can do about it. I wouldn't have gotten one if I knew this would happen.

Hi, I’m 31M. I’ve considered having a vasectomy on and off over the years but I’m now considering it seriously. I question if my reasoning is sound enough for me to actually take the next step.
I am currently single. When I meet someone, I don’t want to give her the idea that I don’t want kids because I really do. But I don’t know how long that will be and I am really not ready for a kid and when I am I won’t be able to take any surprises. I think my reasoning is sound but is it wrong/dumb to do this without a partner if I want kids?
Second, I have anxiety when I get close to cumming because I don’t want to risk it. I don’t like those scares. It doesn’t always affect sex for me but sometimes it does.
Third, I hear that sex is better because it can be more spontaneous and you can enjoy sex more without the worry of pregnancy. Which also doubles down on my anxiety reasoning above. Does it actually improve sex or do people just say that online? Does anyone feel it has the opposite effect and makes sex less pleasurable?
What are your opinions and experiences on those? These are some of my biggest questions before taking the next step. Is that enough of a reason to get a vasectomy done if I don’t have a serious partner? Should I reconsider for that reason?
I absolutely want kids though. Medical sites and articles make it sound like reversal has a high chance of not being successful, is that true or is that just a warning?
Thanks!

Just did my first semen sample test after 3 months post-op and 60+ ejaculations. Result was 1.8 million sperm per ml found in my sample. Not good...
Waiting to hear back from the doctor on when to retest or next steps, but honestly worried my procedure failed. Seems everything says my testing time frame should have been plenty to clear out any leftover sperm.
Has anyone taken longer to get the all clear? Guess I just have to wait and see but my experience with the procedure hasn't been too positive (negative change in orgasm quality) and I would hate to go through the ordeal again.

Hello all,
As the title states, I'm away to be snipped on the 11th Nov.
I've not received my letter yet stating what I need to do post-snip.
Any advice for the recovery period would be much appreciated!
Thank you :)

Bye bye babies! 😁
The worst part of this all was probably doing these. Had to go to a hospital 1h from where I live, masturbate in the fucking stinking WC because they didn't have any appropriate room to do so, TWICE.
But it's done, a little appointment with my urologist in December because I have a little pain, nothing too scary, and we're done with all this 🎉🥳🍾

Before i get into this, do NOT let this discourage you from getting snipped if you're looking through this subreddit pre-snip. Just be sure to find a trusted and reputable urologist/clinic (what i didnt do), and you'll be fine.
I got the snip 12 days ago. I could go into the many reasons why this clinic made it a less then pleasant experience, maybe I'll make another post about that. But about 4 days ago the stitches broke off and the surgical site opened a pea sized hole, you could see inside of it and see a weird white ish substance. It also seems like theres some stitches clogged inside of it. This is obviously very concerning. But upon calling the urology clinic the nurse didn't really seem to care, saying i could come in after the weekend is over and have it checked (i called on Friday). Ok i get it if theres no availability right now, but she had 0 instructions for what i should do, or if this is something i need to get treated. Didn't have an set answer of if i should cover the area, or apply any anti bacterial ointment to it. So here i am with my ball sack ripped open not knowing what to do, lol. Even thought about going to urgent care just cause the clinic didnt seem to give me any attention about it.
Has anyone had similar issues? If so, what instructions were you given?

Just had the call. Still have active and live sperm. Had a rough recovery, and after all that to hear it has failed isn't the news i wanted today.
Was really looking forward to one less thing to worry about in life. Dont think i want to do it again. Meh.

So I got snipped last wednesday so its a bit like 4 days, I didnt come here to see all the complications everyone else had or had not had. It seems like similar to miscarriage, everyone has wildly different experiences.
The doctor said we could try having sex on day 4 if everything felt ok, condom on, and at the time all I had was a slight ache similar to after getting slapped in the left side so we gave it a shot. However, I didnt take into account that everything is very retracted and pulled up inside of me so the slapping and hip thrusting of the act was mega uncomfortable. Also the release was just kinda empty of pleasure so I'm curious of three things.

Hey guys, newly snipped here.
Now that you have had it done and have started to either have sex or jack off, do you feel like your missing something extra at the end?
Usually after sex i feel tired and all my tension has been released, but now i just feel like whats the point.
Any one else feel this way?
Does it come back?

Hi all,
I finally got my op done last Thursday (on the NHS), and touch wood all has gone really well so far. No real pain, and my fellas haven't swelled or bruised at all, which I'm rather thankful for.
My only worry is that I woke up this morning with the scab covering the wound fused to my boxers, so it has come off. This has left the wound completely open, which I am slightly concerned about. It doesn't look too bad, it's not bleeding just appears to be raw skin. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on it over the next few days.
Has anyone else experienced this? Did you use any kind of plaster to cover it, or just keep it dry and cover with boxers? I've been using Vaseline on the scab while showering at the recommendation of the GP that did the operation for me, but not sure whether to continue.
Would appreciate any advice!

I'm two weeks out. Incision has healed great, no hematoma, no bruising, etc. But damn if my nuts aren't still really sore, especially at the end of the day, even wearing Boxerjock/Saxx/etc. Can't really pull them when jerking and can't pound when fucking... pretty annoying. It's not life altering pain just walking around but any motion or tweaking hurts like a MF
r/Vasectomy • u/experiencedmonster • 2d ago
EDIT: So, 24 hours later... I am feeling great improvements. I guess all I had to do was whine to this sub-reddit and look like a dummy? Pain significantly less today and I'm able to walk better.
Leaving this up though, because averages are averages for a reason. If you need the extra day, TAKE IT!
***
I feel like I'm being a bit of a baby. I'm 72 hours removed but today was definitely the worst day. Taking off the jock strap at any point results in major "just got kicked in the balls" ache, and swelling seems worse. I am waddling around for small amounts of time.
I realize everyone is different, but reading so many people be up and doing light activity at this point is kinda blowing my mind. Just don't know if what I consider tolerable is different, but I feel like I need more days of icing and doing nothing.

Question, I had my vasectomy done almost 3 years ago now. My Dr gave me a sample cup and told me to bring in a sample after 15 ejaculations. My problem is that I work 6 days a week from 7am to 6pm. I cant get a sample to his office because I'm at work.
Have any of you guys used an at home test kit? Where do I get one? How accurate is it?
I'm ready to do away with condoms but my wife will absolutely not allow such a thing until I show I have no more swimmers.
Thank you in advance!

I got a vasectomy 10 years ago when I was 25 and haven’t had myself checked since. I recently entered a new relationship and we’ve been using condoms for the past two months but we’re considering ditching them soon. We already have two kids, so we definitely don’t plan on having any more.
Lately, I’ve been seeing so many posts on Reddit about women getting pregnant even though their partners had vasectomies years ago. How the fuck does this happen? Is recanalization really that common even a decade later?
I can understand that cheating might be involved in some cases but I’m still seeing so many women posting about failed vasectomies.

I had my no scalpel vasectomy exactly 2 weeks ago today. The first week was the expected ball pain but the incision itself was scabbed over and healing nicely. That was, until day 7 where the scab had fused onto my briefs unbeknownst to me.
When I took them off, I took the scab off with it. A fair amount of blood but nothing too horrendous and it was remedied quickly with pressure and gauze.
That has frustratingly kicked off a cycle now where I'll put gauze on to help in healing but they then also fuse to the wound as it heals. It's been almost a week of a heal-rip-scab-off cycle. I'm going to see my GP in a few days but in the meantime has anyone experienced this or have any tips? It's quite annoying and I don't know the best course of action, thanks!

Got mine done today. That was an extremely painful procedure. I was expecting the "small pinch" of the needle, and that came and was fine.
But the numbing didn't really happen, or was severely delayed. I asked for more numbing and the doctor goes, "I used 10 cc's, I can't do more".
It was the second most painful experience of my life, right between acute pancreatitis and getting a pilonidal abscess lanced.
I'm mostly fine now, sitting with frozen peas and taking my Tylenol. But that was an awful experience.
Overall I am glad I got it done, but damn.

So I just started looking up information because I plan on getting one soon, and I’ve never heard of a no-scalpel, no-needle vasectomy. The thing that got me was this FAQ about being able to have sex within a few days of the surgery. My knowledge was that you shouldn’t do anything for a month, so that the surgery can be completely set, but it’s still able to be assuming you use contraception?
Has anyone done this type of vasectomy before, and did it work for them? (This is the first business that showed up when I googled places that do vasectomies in Ireland)

Good morning,
I'm 24 years old. Me and my partner talked about not wanting kids for different reasons. Now, I want to get a vasectomy but I'm not sure which clinic is the best one to get it. I keep reading failed vasectomies and vasectomies that take too long to work.
Would there be anyone that had a successful vasectomy recommend a clinic that we can go to? Thanks in advance.

Just got vasectomy a month ago. I’m 23, have no kids, and have never had any. As for the reason, I really just don’t see myself having a kid or being a father figure. Plus, I don’t think it’s a good idea to start a family given the state of our country right now. And even if we do elect good politicians in the future, the scars left by corruption won’t heal quickly or disappear overnight.
Maybe the life I grew up in also played a part in my decision not to have kids or start a family of my own. I grew up in a lower-income, mid-sized family, and as the firstborn, I was often forced to understand that we simply couldn’t have everything, even when it was something we needed. Basically, I grew up seeing just how poor we were. I witnessed the hardships and struggles my parents and brothers went through just to get us to where we are now. Plus, I’ll be the breadwinner of the family, soo... with that, I’ve passed the torch to my brother to continue the family bloodline HAHAHA (if he wants to, of course).
With that long story of my life kind of rationale, I can confidently say that I’m 100% sure about not wanting kids. I don’t want to add more stress and burdens to my life. I’d rather focus on myself, stick to my cats, and give the inner child me the chance to finally experience the things he never got to have growing up.
