Pics of your “office”

With this RTO bullshit I am hearing the absolute worst horror stories about where people are ending up. If you have a chance to take a picture when there aren’t any people in your particular room, I feel like we should start a thread of what it’s like where everyone is. I just got word today that I will be in a computer lab. There are 12 tables so if we share tables, there will be at least 24 of us in there. 🫠

This is the place to ask if you think your position will be RIF’d - all separate posts regarding “am I safe”, “will I be RIF’s”, etc will be deleted.

Just ask here, we can all post guesses to your question based on the OPM RIF Workforce Reshaping Guide, which the administration is unlikely to follow.

https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/workforce-restructuring/reductions-in-force-rif/workforce_reshaping.pdf

The fact is none of us know, and we probably won’t know for at least 6-8 weeks.

Anyway, just making this post for everyone to ask so the sub isn’t overrun with repetitive questions we don’t have the answers to.

WLB consolidation

LP. Is the plan really to consolidate WLB nationwide into the RSSO in less than 3 months without any SOPs, organizational structure, standards, position descriptions, training plan or feasible timeline? Thats what we are hearing since your town hall but no word from our leadership who might be going to the RSSO unit and who won’t. I don’t know how it could possibly be planned in such a short time particularly during busy seasons for both retirement and WLB.

Direct Transfer for Probationary Employees?

I’m new to the VA after working 30 years in highly-demanding Oil and Gas Roles, and I must admit that while I was excited about this new chapter to start, I don’t feel that way as strongly now. I’m bored and underutilized, and terrified that this newfound joy in my life - for the first time in decades, is going to be destroyed by this state of personal stagnation, overall poor attitudes of coworkers, and obvious low-morale and dysfunction across my local organization, and the VHA at large.

That being said, here are my real questions:

1) Is transferring to an identical role at another facility even plausible as a probationary employee with 11 mo of service in step 2 of WG-9?

2) Does working under a 4-year relocation and retention program that is distributed as a monthly stipend for hard-to-fill USO positions change this? USRO roles died in OPM for my facility in 2025, and the VA terms for the reloc/recr programs escape me.

3) If I leave the VHA and return to a private-sector role before my 4 years of service, and my reloc/recr is paid monthly, am I required to repay what I received through these programs?

Sorry in advance for my ignorance, but the VHA learning curve is real.

Is there a back door into HRIS from non-govt computer and no remote access?!?!?

I am out of town, away from where I work. While I was on scheduled days off, my dad was admitted to the hospital with complications that led to a stroke. I am being listed as AWOL, like I really care, because they can’t submit the FMLA paperwork I emailed them. I’m being told that management was told they can no longer submit it and that it has to be done by the employee.

I cannot comprehend this at all. So now, if someone in my VISN has a health care emergency, either their own or a family member’s, they just don’t get paid and get a big ol’ “sorry about ya!” Employees get in car wrecks or get sick and end up in the ICU, so what are they supposed to do? Especially if they happen to be unresponsive.

This ended up turning more into a vent, instead a question. Seriously, if anyone knows a way to access HRIS without remote access and with no VA nearby, I would appreciate it. If not, I honestly could careless at this point. I’ll just keep calling in daily, saying FMLA, and sending the emails so I can prove I invoked it. They'll just have to keep wondering when I'm coming back and try to plan accordingly 😁

Just another reason why I question every day why I stay. Family will and should always come first. Period. We shouldn’t worry all day about how they can screw us over next.

😎 🥁 now the question everyone has every day. So we know if telework will be coming back after the midterms and if so how soon 💀😂

HRSC Transfers

Now that the day is nearly upon us for the transfers, have your current managers said anything about losing you?

My manager acts like she has no idea. Should I tell her? Shouldn’t the receiving HR have told her? This whole process has been so odd and secretive.

FY26 0750

I got some indirect communication from “WMC HROO” that indicates fy26 appraisals with ratings fully successful need to be held, and any that have been submitted for tech review will be returned to supervisors. Has anyone else heard this, or know a reason why? I am not HR staff but recruitment for my service initiated by HRMACS/HROO/WMC(whatever they are called these days). This rework is getting old and taking attention away from actual patient care

Is there a way to game the system in USAJobs, so the AI places you at a higher salary?

As humans are being abolished, applicants must fight back using the thing AI cannot duplicate - their wits. I am thinking copy/paste the job announcement into your resume and cover letter. With time-in-grade eliminated, how can AI say no?

Early Career Interviews with OPM.

Has anyone had any luck or forward movement from the July Early Careers position? OPM sent out email invites for interviews, has anyone had interviews with them from the job announcement?

VA nurse job transfer

Hi, looking for advice/suggestions on how to navigate this.

I’m moving to Memphis in January(husband’s job is relocating us there). I’m a VA nurse been there for 3 years. I worked outpatient and took on many additional duties. However, I can’t seem to find a job through Memphis VA. I have applied to multiple positions, they all seem stall. I was denied from one but the others haven’t seemed to move. I reached out to Memphis HR & nurse recruiter via email. HR said all positions are posted on USAjobs. No response from nurse recruiter yet. My goal is to get an inpatient (preferably nights) position due to moving and it will fit my family’s schedule for a while. I reached out to HR at my current VA no response yet (maybe end of fiscal year is causing a delay). My background is CVICU, I worked part time while full time at the VA up until Nov. 2025 due to pregnancy. Any suggestions on how to navigate this?

30 day hiring question

I have a former coworker that applied to work where I am now. They asked about hiring timelines, so I searched here for info. I see that the hiring manager has 5 days to submit their choice back to HR. What's timeline like after that for a TJO and FJO?

Thanks!

Radiology at the VA?

I am currently in radiology fellowship, looking to serve a purpose other than "make number go up" as a career and hoping to do something for my country and those who serve it. That said, I have a family to support and my own mental health to look after. It seems like the VA is going through a lot recently as a result of some very highly "regarded" decisions by the titans of intellect dwelling in DC. Are things really as dire as they seem? Would anyone still recommend working at the VA as a new attending?

for someone looking at a PCP job with the VA

I have a cjo with my local VA medical center as a PCP - one of the larger ones from what I gather. is there an actual push by the government to downsize the VA? and if so do they expect the private sector to absorb the patients. at least where I live, there wold probably be like a 1 year wait to see a new patient due to traininees just not going into primary care due to lack of pay, inbox overload, potential to make money as a hospitalist, many pcps not taking new patient and for many other reasons. not sure if the organization takes these types of things into account since you can find these figures on the Internet fairly easily.

I like primary care but don't want to go into a position where I get cut a couple months in from which I have read can happen and many people have had their full Offers rescinded or your job gets axed once you start.

let me know what y'all think.

All EOY proficiencies kicked back to supervisors.

So with one week left all the 0750s got sent back to the supervisors for TBD instructions. This was the most VA thing to happen all week. Some folks have 40-50 direct reports to complete and to get them all sent back in eperformance was a great way to close out Friday. 😂

Anyone here working for HROO?

Is there anybody here working for HROO that can give insight as to how the work is there? Is it as hectic as down at the VISNs level?
