An idyllic little cottage right by a lake, containing a few relics from decades past.

Somewhat rummaged through, but no vandalism.

Abandoned shack

Found this shack in Nelson county Kentucky while exploring my property. Any idea what it could have been used for or when it was built? I’m thinking late 18 to early 19. It has 2 rooms and an upstairs area with stairs on the outside of the building.

The operating room inside a private doctors office somewhere in Portugal 🇵🇹

Abandoned in 1991-1992, this private clinic was founded in 1955 when a physician transformed this old manor house into a medical practice. For over 30 years until his death in the early 90s, the doctor served the community and focused on general health care, births and surgeries. Despite being abandoned for 34-35 years, it is still filled with all of the equipment that was left when family members and a group of physicians couldn’t come to an agreement with what would happen to this private clinic once the main doctor passed away. A little spooky doing this explore alone but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. This is just one of many rooms filled with equipment.

Abandoned geodesic dome house, empty since 1990, Southeastern Ontario

Spotted this one poking up above the treeline in a tiny Ontario hamlet, sitting on a hill over a small river and an old mill. It’s a geodesic dome home that sat empty for over 30 years after its owners left around 1990. It was overgrown, weathered, and still had that 70s “house of the future” optimism even while it was falling apart.

The triangle-panel ceiling is the best part. The light inside a dome is unlike any other abandoned house I’ve shot.

Abandoned time capsule house in Ontario: a lifelong music fan’s home, frozen since 2003

This small bungalow in Southern Ontario has sat untouched for over 20 years. The last calendar on the wall reads November 2003. A neighbour told me the owner stops by two or three times a year, never locks the door and refuses to sell, so everything is still exactly where it was left.

Whoever lived here loved music. There’s a turntable in nearly every room, plus 8-track, cassette and reel-to-reel decks, boxes of tapes covering the floors, and shelves of rock biographies. The ceiling is coming down from water damage, there are still dishes in the kitchen and unopened beer on the counter, and a little Christmas tree is still standing in the living room.

The best finds were a 1976 Rush ticket from the Welland Arena, an Uncle Sam’s lineup poster, three signed Davy Jones photos, a 1972 Summit Series program, old Rolling Stone magazines and an ALF doll keeping watch over the stereo.

Location not shared. Nothing was taken; everything was photographed and left where it was.

Two Houses Along an abandoned Street [OC]

Falling in Line

There is still one more house I have yet to post photos for, if you would like to check it out right now, you can do so, right here:

https://youtu.be/ULF50kkobe4

These four houses along this abandoned street were recently expropriated by the provincial government to facilitate the building of a new subway line.

Called the Ontario Line, this new subway system will cover almost 16km, it will have 15 stations and is expected to see 400,000 daily passengers. The new line is expected to be operational by the early 2030s.

Interestingly, the new tracks will begin at Ontario place, a former waterpark on the shores of Lake Ontario. They will end at a more newly abandoned site called the Ontario Science Centre.

The site where these homes once stood is now under construction, this is where the Minton Place Tunnel Portal is being built. It is the transition point where trains will move between underground subway tunnels to the south and elevated tracks to the north. The elevated guideways will transport the trains over the Don Valley.

It's always unfortunate to see such beautiful buildings being demolished but this infrastructure project that is currently being built is necessary for the city's future sustainability.

Inside Canada's largest storm drain

Based on my research, this whole system is about 42km of pipe, with 76 junctions and nearly 700 manholes. Only about 6-7km of this pipe, the main conduit, is a walkable height (I'm 5'7, for reference). I walked a total of around 3km one way. Eventually, the pipe shrinks starts to shrink, so the walk ends once it's too much of a backbreaker.

It was built in stages from the 1930s to the 2020s. The giant box sections are from the late 1970s, but the newer stretch (the loaf-shaped conduit) is from a recent rehabilitation project.

In the second photo, you can see a drop in height into a very long sediment pool. This accumulates all kinds of debris and is quite deep and generally impassable. There are also 2 large equipment shafts further into the drain, and illicit sanitary connections can be found seemingly everywhere (sewage lines tied into the trunk where they shouldn't be. This is a known problem in the city).

If you find this interesting, you can view the full album here.
