Ideas Needed! Upcycling ideas for brand-new grip socks that can’t be sold?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone!

I have around 50–200 pairs of brand-new cotton-blend Pilates grip socks that have never been worn. Unfortunately, some lint has stuck to the silicone grips on the soles, so I can’t sell them.

The sock shafts are still in good condition, and I’d love to repurpose them into useful winter items to give away for free rather than waste them.

I considered making covers for cold metal door handles, but the socks were too loose. I’m open to other ideas that require minimal cutting, sewing, and extra materials.

What would you make with them? I’d love to hear your ideas!

I turned an old skateboard into a coat rack, keeping the original trucks and replacing the wheels with brushed metal knobs. The acrylic artwork depicts Basque pelota players. I called it "Txik Txak".

Ideas Needed! Flat glass circle

Post image
• Upvotes

Hi all! I just found this flat piece of glass (maybe from a photo frame?) beside the road and thought it would be useful for a future project.
It's about 5 mm thick and heavier than expected when picking it up.
Any creative and/or practical ideas on what to make with this?

I was gifted this awesome vest around a year ago, and it’s been sitting in my closet ever since because it is a bit jumbo on me. How should I go about making this wearable? Would you just take it in? Turn it into something else? I would love to hear some ideas! Thankyou 🫶🏻

Ideas Needed! Jewellery box - want to upcycle

Post image
22 Upvotes

I found this jewellery box in a charity shop and would like to upcycle it. I'm wanting to go for a gothic wardrobe (black wood, red velvet and I want to redesign the glass)

It will be my first upcycle so naturally I'm a little nervous. Does anyone have any advice on the best way to paint the wood? The wood feels quite solid but has a glossy feel.

Any upcycling tips would be greatly appreciated 🙂

Upcycling Work in Progress Giving packaging a second life

I came across these zipper bags at a flea market in Berlin and fell in love with this idea of reusing packaging trash from chocolates, caffee or other products.

Inspired by this idea I started making them myself.

Maybe I can make some more over the winter and start selling them myself at the next flea market season. That way I could support a wunderful and important project run by friends of mine in Romania.

Ideas Needed! How can I upcycle or fix this bag?

I’ve had this bag for about 10 years, I noticed recently that the material (pleather?) on the front has started to disintegrate and peel off. It looks ugly but the bag is great, sturdy and I don’t want to throw it away. Have you got any idea on how I could repair it or upcycle it?

Edit: thank you all for your input and suggestions! Will see what I can come up with 😄

Ideas Needed! How to improve tile stickers

Post image
5 Upvotes

I got these sticker tiles to put over my fish tank stand. They look good except the fake grout is just a bit too white for the room. Any ideas on how to darken this slightly (maybe just tint it to a brown/beige)? The problem is they are quite water repellent - material is 'Polyethylene Terephthalate, Polyurethane'. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0DQP999Y8?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

Ideas Needed! Broken ceramic lid

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hey crafty people,

I unfortunately dropped my very fancy Emile Henry loaf pan lid, and it is now in 3 pieces. I think it is probably a throw-in-the-garbage situation, but wanted to post just in case. I have already contacted the company and they have confirmed that there is no way to fix this and still use it (in a food-safe way) for baking.

If anyone has ideas as to how I or someone else could use this creatively, sound off!

Completed Upcycling Project So, I’ve turned another flea-market find... into a loft-style desk lamp, as usual.

I had to redo all the wiring and discard the rotor and armature winding. On the bright side, it provided a perfect fit for an E27 socket, which I equipped with an Edison-style incandescent bulb that casts a warm, soft glow.

All second hand materials (except some of the interfacing). It's similar to the Baggu purse. The strap and hooks are from a torn messenger bag. Added a koi applique (small scraps from other projects) for some zazz. Passed cat inspection.

Ideas Needed! Ideas for pet litter/food bags

Post image

I've got 2 cats and 2 dogs. I keep going through food bags, and I've started ordering bags of litter to refill a couple of the usual jugs I've kept since the bags are less plastic waste. Any ideas on ways to repurpose them?

Edit: thank you all for suggestions! I can't exactly use these as trash bags since they can't seal well, and my roommate is a neat freak that would not be thrilled about me putting unsealed bags of used cat litter into the big outdoor trash bins. But it will be noted for when living situations change.

Ideas Needed! I have 1 million steel flange bolts & nuts. What would you upcycle them into?

My family runs a steel fabrication shop. Years ago we ended up with about 1 million M10x90 grade 8.8 flange bolts with matching flange nuts, an odd size nobody needs in bulk. I’d rather turn them into something people actually want than scrap them. We have a full workshop (welding, cutting, drilling) and time. Toys, desk objects, decor, tools, art… anything goes. I thought of a fidget spinner but can’t see how to make it appealing. What would you make?

Ideas Needed! Stained khakis trousers. Any suggestions on how to upcycle or repair them?

Post image
10 Upvotes

Unfortunately, some acid spilled on a pair of men's khaki trousers (98% cotton, 2% elastane), leaving a permanent reddish spot that won’t wash out. Instead of tossing them, I'd love to upcycle them or give them a new life. Since the stain is located on the lower leg, I was considering shortening them into shorts.
Do you have any other creative repair, mending, or alteration ideas?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions! 😄

Ideas Needed! Looking for project ideas for a drawstring bag

I work in a sector that gives me a lot of freebies, and I've got a lot of drawstring bags and want to convert them into something different.

I don't really have a use for the bags but I like the designs and memories that are connected to the bags.

Any ideas?

Ideas Needed! What can I do with an old pair of shoes?

I have an old pair of Nike Dunk hi tops. They have sentimental value to me but are at the end of their life. I would donate them if they could provide use to the next person but the sole has become brittle and will fall apart on the wearer. Hoping i could upcycle the upper portion to something but can’t think of anything. This is just a shot in the dark and any suggestions are appreciated. TYIA.
