PSA: start-of-semester logistics compilation

In anticipation of common Qs:

Fast track offers / worried about not meeting the guaranteed rank score

Dress code

What is the WTR course?

Back-to-back classes on timetable

  • Classes are 50 minutes in duration. They start at 5 minutes past the hour and finish 5 minutes before the hour, allowing 10 minutes changeover between classes for comfort breaks/snacks/travel. So please don't stress about back-to-back classes.
  • Classes between different campuses: this is especially common for biomed classes. Courses usually know about this and negotiate slightly earlier finish time / slightly later starting time to allow more time for inter-campus commute. If not, raise the issue with your course coordinator.

Finding rooms/class locations

  • The first 3 digits of a room number corresponds with the sector/building number; the final 3 digits indicate the floor and room number.
    • e.g. 405-422 would be building 405 (Engineering), Level 4, room (4)22.
    • Sector 1xx = Clock tower/General Library block
    • Sector 2xx = Business School block (inc. Owen G Glenn Building (OGGB), Arts/Education building)
    • Sector 3xx = Science block
    • Sector 4xx = Engineering block
    • Sector 5xx = Grafton Campus
    • Sector 7xx = [No longer applicable - old Tamaki Campus]
    • Sector 6xx = Upper Symonds St
    • Sector 8xx = Law school
    • Sector 9xx = Newmarket Campus

Grad roles

Feeling a bit down as I wasn't able to get any internships out of ~50 applications and now I'm a bit worried about the upcoming grad hiring season.

I'm a Penultimate year Finance & InfoSys major with GPA 7.2/9.0, no internships, currently working in customer service at a bank. I've been a general exec in a club but other than that, nothing else. I've been to a bunch of networking events and have had coffee chats with professionals who were all super sweet people but nothing really came of it.

It's a bit sad getting rejected season after season. I've only made it to 1 actual interview and that was for KPMG but I didn't do so well.

For everyone who got an internship or a grad role, could you pls comment industry, gpa and your work experience and your interview process? Also any tips you have?

Offer withdrawn

• Upvotes

Hi y’all!

I was wondering if anyone has faced a situation similar to mine before :

I was offered a conditional offer in the Master of Marketing Program subject to English language requirements.

Post completing these requirements, I had reached out to the University to let them know that I uploaded my test results to the portal & to please let me know if everything was in place.

To my shock, I got an email back that said they had miscalculated my GPA initially, sent me an offer in error and now would be withdrawing my offer.

Just wondering if someone else had something similar happen to them? I’m still trying to process what actually just happened 😔

law options if i fail to get into pt2

Don’t actually think I will fail but I was curious about how it would work in terms of my degree planning if I failed to get into part2? Would I essentially be redoing the year or like “passing time” until semester two before i can redo 141&131? I am planning to continue my conjoint so was just curious how it would work out for my degree. Or is it possible that I do further my degree with relevant electives? Because would this year just essentially become a waste of time😭😭

Please lmk how it would worth

What papers to take in compsci if you're weak at maths

Hi i'm a first year ITM student and I'm planning to add CompSci as a double major. However, I'm not particularly strong at maths, so I'm a bit worried about how difficult the maths-related papers might be. I was wondering what papers to take for my situation? Thanks!

FREE MEDSCI 142 Revision Hub — High-Yield Notes, MCQs, SAQs & Flashcards

https://medwaystudy.netlify.app

Hey everyone!!

A couple of us second-year clinical students have been working on something for MEDSCI 142 students, We've used our own first-year notes and experiences to build a website for medsci revison!! It should cover what the lecture goes over, including what is said by the lecturer, and highly examinable content in the mcc/saqs.

Each chapter includes:

  • 40 MCQs
  • 15-20 SAQs
  • 80-100 flashcards for active recall
  • Organised notes and explanations

We've made it mobile-friendly too, so you can literally do a few MCQs between sets at the gym, revise on the bus, or go through flashcards whenever you've got a spare 10 minutes.

There are 8 MEDSCI chapters available. You can try the full Musculoskeletal chapter without even signing up, and the rest are free with an account.

We're still improving things, so we'd genuinely appreciate any feedback or suggestions.

Hopefully this makes MEDSCI revision a bit less stressful for you guys. Good luck with exams!🙏

will my aegrotat application be accepted?

probably dumb question but I’ve never done this before so I’m a little nervous. I have an exam tomorrow and woke up with a horrible migraine and my vision blurred. I’ve booked an online doctor appointment to get medical documents but I’m scared that I won’t get approved because it’s the day before my exam and not the day of. Usually when I have these migraines, it’ll last around 3 days so I’m sure it’ll still be there tomorrow but I’m still a little anxious. Any advice appreciated 🙏😊

Best and easiest electives

Hey everyone!

I'm planning to do a BCom/BProp conjoint at UoA, majoring in Comlaw and Infosys

I was wondering which electives are the easiest or most manageable for these majors, preferably ones that aren't too stressful and can help boost my GPA.

Also, do you think ComLaw and Infosys are a good major combination alongside Property? I'm hoping to work in corporate or commercial property roles after graduating. (no math majors)

Would you recommend taking 5 papers in one semester if one of them is BUSINESS 202, since it doesn't have an exam? Would the workload be manageable, or is it better to stick with 4?

Would love to hear your experiences and recommendations. Thanks!

Unsure what electives to take for First Year COMPSCI Major

Hi, I'm planning out courses/papers I need to take next year and I'm stuck on picking the electives and general ed's. I'm thinking of Maths 108 but still don't know about the other ones? And also would it be a good idea to take compsci 101 even if I had done the ncea level 3 internal?

Thanks:)

Waitlisted for Halls - Auckland

Hi guys, does anyone know how long it will take to get off the waitlist? I'm kind of stressed out. I applied for towers, got waitlisted and haven't heard anything. If I do eventually get accepted, how much time would I have to pay the deposit after acceptance?

What is the chance of getting audited by StudyLink specifically for how you spent your Course-Related Costs

Hey everyone,

Quick question about StudyLink Course-Related Costs ($1,000).

Has anyone here actually been audited or asked to provide receipts after claiming CRC? What happens if you spent it on general expenses (like travel/rent/living) while studying instead of specific physical course materials?

Just curious how strict they actually are with checks these days. Thanks!
