My apologies skipping out on the June thread. Nonetheless, here's July's.
Please only post things for sale - or things you are looking to buy - in this thread. Any attempt to buy/sell outside these threads will be deleted. The moderators of have to assume you've read the subreddits rules, because there's no way to ask every single person; so please be mindful of others, or get the hell out.
Cheers,

Please only post stuff related to trumpet and related instruments, such as:
If it cannot be applied to playing trumpet - or a related instrument such as flugelhorn, cornet, bugle, piccolo trumpet, shofar, etc. - please post it somewhere else. That's why there are a lot of subreddits.

The mod team gets questions/comments about this all the time. People will ask - often condescendingly toward the mods - why we allow people to post questions that have been answered. There's a few reasons we let this go:
So, for whoever feels r/trumpet is not on their level, there's only so much anyone can do for you. First, nobody owes you anything, so check the sense of entitlement at the door. Second, if you're so great at everything, please feel free to chime int o help people who are asking legitimate questions; or even suggest ways they can make their questions better. People who end conversations by default are either salespeople closing a deal, and/or assholes.
So, blah blah blah, use a search function, don't be mean to one another, etc. Most people will never read this far, and this post will get ignored by 98% of the people here anyway. Have a great day, unless you're a jerk.

Hi everyone!
I'm preparing to sell a few brass instruments from my high school playing days and would appreciate some advice on this Couesnon flugelhorn.
The bell is stamped "Couesnon Paris, Made in France," with what appears to be serial number 82784. From my research, I'm guessing it's from the 1970s, but I'd love confirmation.
I've attached photos showing the instrument, engraving, and condition. There's considerable spotting and finish wear, particularly around the bell. I haven't had its current playing condition professionally assessed.
A few questions
Can anyone help confirm the approximate manufacturing year and specific model?
What would be a reasonable private-sale value in its present cosmetic condition, assuming the valves and slides are functional?
How much less should I expect from a dealer purchasing it outright?
I'm planning to visit a brass instrument dealer next week and would love to have a realistic sense of its value beforehand.
Thanks for any insight!

i have an ultrasonic cleaner that i really only use to clean my retainer. it's not very big and it's advertised specifically for dental devices. my main mouthpiece (by main i mean the only one i ever play on) gets pretty nasty and I can't really clean it with just a brush. so can i instead just throw it in the cleaner?

I'm middle-aged and never played a brass instrument. My sister had a trumpet in high school. I bought my first trumpet today, and it seems in good condition. It's a Yamaha Advantage.
I've played guitar since I was a teenager and played imguitar and bass in punk bands locally for years. I understand a lot of scale, chord, mode theory. In the past year, I took up saxophone and am doing great at it now and taught myself. I'm showing up at blues jams and playing saxophone all of the time now.
So, that brings me to today. Picking up musical instruments is my main hobby and something that feels important to me.
Brass seems difficult, and I'm initially having trouble with physical stuff like embouchure and controlling a good clean tone. My intonation is off, too, by a lot. It honestly sounds bad to start, but I'm determined.
I have a dedicated practice area and bought a maintenance kit and a cheap practice mute.
What else are general advice for me at this point?

Hi everyone,
I hope y’all are well!
I’ve come to you for advice on which trumpet to buy since I don’t know anything about this instrument appart from the research I’ve made.
Would you recommend starting with a beginner instrument or buying one that I’d keep on the long run?
Any other tips is welcomed!
Thanks in advance - good day!

What direction would you go is the question......
My son's current trumpet (8th grade) is a King Tempo II 601SP (mid/late 90's I believe) In 6th grade, I believe he "hammered" his mouthpiece into it and couldn't easily remove it. In the process of "removing it" he bent his lead pipe pretty good. He did tell me after the fact and I brought it into the local music shop to get repaired. Picked it up and was told it was all good.
I guess I never did check the horn and he hasn't said anything about it. He was practicing at home and I caught a glimpse of the horn and noticed a bend in the lead pipe still. It is straight sideways, but still bent downwards. He loves music (Choir and Band) and between both of them is involved in 6 different groups. I'm a firm believer in having "decent working stuff" if you are going to do an activity.
I asked one of his band directors about it and the response more or less "it isn't that bad and you could always sell it if you want to upgrade......"
I was a band geek (started trumpet but made my mark on Tuba) so I understand posture...etc.
I'm reaching out to all of you to see what you would do.....yes, the repair was poor, but is it "not that bad", time to replace the lead pipe, or is it a keep your eyes open to possibly "upgrade". He does have skill for his age and I see him playing through HS and it wouldn't surprise me to see him play possibly in college (if he doesn't sing).
Thank you in advance!
He does have another trumpet coming here middle of November as my father was able to get it looked at and it is ready to go. (My previous post LeBlanc Trumpet - My son is about to start his collection : r/trumpet) I am not in panic mode....just trying to gauge which direction to go.

Hello I’ve been wanting to get back into playing and I found this on Facebook. It’s a YTR 2320 so it’s older, and was played in the 90s, but they told me it’s in good condition and nothing is seized. I’ll inspect it of course. I talked them down to 150 but they won’t budge below that. Is this worth buying? If not what should I look into for getting back to playing since highschool (4 years)

I have roughly 40 different vintage used and new trumpet mouthpieces and I don't know how to go about selling them?
I figured the best way to maximize profit would be to sell them individually or in small lots on Ebay? I have no clue so I would LOVE some advice or feedback!
Just in case anyone is actually curious this is a rough list of what I have.
Brands: Yamaha, Vincent Bach, Zottola, Denis Wick, Jet-tone, A lot of J Marcinkiewicz, Schilke, Giardinelli. Then some odd ones: J Parduba & Son. J Callet, Tottle & Sons, Reynolds, DeNicola, Hammond, Bob Reeves.
For a more in depth list message me and I'll send you a spreadsheet I made.
I suppose I'm open to selling them through Reddit or something if anyone is trying to purchase? Just message me!

UPDATE: Reposting with photos. This by all research available is a legit Yamaha 2330S. The South Kora market yamahas come in the branded blue box with the shown branded accesories. Hate this case though...
------------------
Recently received a new Yamaha 2330S, the South Korean package that comes with a very small, tight, soft shoulder bag.
I want a hard case that does feel like a crime trying to stuff the trumpet into such a small bag.
Looks like the official Yamaha hard case is really expensive at around $160 online. Is there a better option for cheaper for a silver trumpet that is highly recommended? Ideally one that can hold a couple mouthpieces and a mute as well? I didn't want to just grab a $40 semihard gig case off Amazon and wanted opinions here first.
Thanks!

Is there a difference between playing flugel in jazz bands and brass bands (other than repetoire), stylistic expectations, the role of the flugel, or register expectations?

Dumb question but I’ve played the same passed-down trumpet for 20 years and I’m always brass among silver 😭

Intermediate trumpet player here, I've been looking into improv for the jazz bands at my school. I've started transcribing and I've done a handful of tunes, but it doesn't seem to be helping me with my improv. Does anyone have any tips? Am I doing it wrong?

I’m a sophomore in high school and I’ve had braces for 3 1/2 years now. I’m definitely in the top of my band skill wise and braces haven’t stopped me at all. But 2 months ago I got bands to change my bite and jaw. I had a pretty odd underbite but now It’s moved my lower jaw forward so much that I have an overbite. I’ve noticed that over the past 2 weeks I genuinely can’t hit any high notes I could easily before. I also can’t sustain notes anymore. It’s so annoying and kind of hurts. What do I do!!
