Challenge Post [October 2026] Tentacle Challenge Topic. Four Wiggly friends ready for playing with!

Well here's this months topic!

Tentacles.

We have quite the selection of patterns this month because who could resist having some fun with this kind of topic! Something gross or spooky was also fitting so we opted for making something disturbing and slightly silly.

Hopefully you all enjoy these patterns as much as we have making them! At the bottom of the post you can find links to all the patterns for whatever format or size you wish.

Come up with your own pattern you'd like to share? Upload it to Pattern Archive!

Made by Beest and Claycorp. Pattern Archive seems to have a bug. Oops!
Honorable mention that got made just before the topic vote.

Mega Q&A Monthly Mega Q&A - [October 2026]

Welcome once again to the monthly mega Q&A! You can find all previous Q&A posts here!

Looking for Patterns? Check out Pattern Archive!

Posting guidelines!

  • If you have a question that hasn't been asked yet as a top level comment, don't reply to another comment to ask it! Reply to the post instead!
  • Make sure to include as much information in the top level comment as possible.
  • Anything and everything glass is fine to ask, if you want help with patterns or other physical things make sure to upload images! You can do so by attaching the image to the comment. Please be aware you are posting it for all to see so hide any personal info!
  • No question is stupid, from Basement Workshop Dreamer to Expert, we are all here to share and learn.
  • While opinion based questions like "best way to hold a soldering iron" are fine, please keep in mind that these really have no real true answer. They can however provide you a wide variety of tips to try out on your own!

Common Questions:

  • My solder is wrong!
    • Post a picture of the solder using the image info from the posting guidelines and someone can help you solve whatever issue it is.
  • I want to get started with glass! What do I need?
    • It's best to take a class first to see if you really like the craft as glass has a rather high starting cost. If you insist on starting on your own or just don't have classes here's a small write-up on getting started.
  • Do I need a temperature controlled iron?
    • As much as I want to just say YES.... No, you don't, BUT buying one will greatly improve your ability to work with it. It's well worth the extra money, it's best to just do so from the start.
  • Do I need a Grinder?
    • Technically no, but to do foil (AKA Tiffany style) glass work it's practically required. "Grinder stones" (AKA Carborundum stones) are just a waste of time and effort. They are only really good for removing the sharp edge off the glass. Similar to the iron information above, spend the money, save yourself.

I recently got back into stained glass! I'm having a hard time getting clean edges. Wouldn't it be good if I learned how to use lead came for the edges?

A little poppy flower thermostat cover in paduak wood.

I’m going to drill some large holes in the bottom to let air flow in to make sure it’s not throwing off the thermostat gauge, as well as buy a thermometer to check. We will see!

Original Art | Foil My first stained glass

Hi everyone! This is my first stained glass it was so much fun to do the entire process. I don't have a glass grinder yet but defenitly found out why it is a must have, the sides are grinded with a diamond handpad.

Soldering was awesome and I can't wait for my skills to grow. The stained glass community is amazing, with all the content on youtube and here on reddit there is so much to learn from you all. Thanks guys!

My next goal is to solder better and to get the outer edges to be more raised and with a grinder I hope to make the pieces more straight.

Picked this kit up on clearance and just finished it today, hence the polish I didn’t fully remove before photographing -.-
I feel like there’s room for improvement on my solder but at the same time I’m really impressed with what I was able to do on my first attempt.
I’ll be starting my second piece next week, so any tips/tricks are appreciated!

Help Me! Triangle Thing?

Post image
10 Upvotes

I prepped a whole bunch of these triangle things that I saw a lot of people making last year. However, it’s been a year and I can’t remember what the heck they are and I of course haven’t seen any yet this year.
Do you just set them on your windowsill? Did I put the gem low enough? What do you call these?
I feel really silly making something I don’t fully even know what it is, but I had 3 prepped so figured I’d give it a go lol

Help Me! Different size foil on same piece?

I'm working on a Justin Behnke piece. Heron By The Sea. Using 7/32 foil on most but was wondering if it would look funny if I used 3/16 on the beak, feet and possibly the seagulls. It's 12.5 X 17.5. Thank you.

Also ignore the missing pieces lol I need to recut them

first time making a heavy hanging piece and i’d love some advice !! i’m not sure where would be best to attach my hanging loops, i may have made a mistake soldering the front and wish i had imbedded the wire between the pieces.

any recommendations on where i should attach my wire loops/ what would help it be the most structurally stable?

any opinions on if i should hang it straight or maybe an angle would look cooler?

i would also love any comments/ advice about my pattern!! i attached a picture leaf that inspired it lol

!!for reference this piece is roughly 10 inches tall and 8 inches wide

Business Talk Free stained glass cost/pricing calculator

• Upvotes

Pricing stained glass pieces comes up a lot, so here's a free calculator that works out what a piece cost to make and/or what to charge for it.

It's free, needs no sign-up, and works on phones.

Enter what was paid for glass, foil, solder, and came, plus how much was used, and it does the math. Time, other supplies, and a profit markup can also be added to get a suggested selling price.

Feedback is welcome: what's confusing, what's missing, or what would be useful to add. Comment here or use the feedback email at the bottom of the page.

I love the colors in this piece not really any difficult cuts . I didn’t have the exact colors used in the original but I think it turned out rather nice ! What do you think? The 2nd photo is of the original piece of art I used as inspiration!
