Initial impressions: these are fantastic!
They respond to EQ really well, sound is punchy / bright with plenty of emphasis on bass / sub bass making it nice and punchy, deep but not overwhelming like the M5’s, maintaining clarity and volume, these are nice!
The sound signature is closest to the APM2 but warmer and more alive!
ANC is a huge step up from Ace, think a touch better than APM2 so definitely in the big leagues now!

Mounting Dream stands (€51 for the pair) fit Sonos One perfectly, no DIY needed

Official Sonos stands are pretty expensive, so I went looking for an alternative and found this Mounting Dream set of 2 height-adjustable speaker stands (rated up to 5 kg) for €51 on sale on Amazon. Turns out they fit the Sonos One extremely well:

  • The power cable fits through the tube, but only just. I managed to get it through by running a string through the opposite way and pulling the cable along.
  • A small plastic bracket, at the power connector, slots into the plate. No need to make a custom mount: the Sonos One locks in place thanks to this little piece.
  • The platform size is almost identical to the Sonos One's footprint.

I'm attaching photos of the bracket so you can see how it locks in. Works perfectly!

Any Beam Ultra + Sub Mini Users?

Any beam ultra or sub mini users here on this sub? Will be buying my first Sonos system and upgrading from dual gen 2 HomePods. Wondering if anyone had any experience with this combo. A regular gen 2 beam and sub mini combo is also an option! Thanks in advance for your opinions!

Sonos Beam 2 + 2x Era 100 on Orbi RBR350 (AP mode): 5 GHz breaks Sonos, and AirPlay fails after the Beam changes node. Any ideas?

• Upvotes

Setup

  • Sonos Beam (Gen 2) + 2x Era 100 as a home theater (surrounds), in one room
  • Netgear Orbi RBR350 router + RBS350 satellite (dual-band AX1800), now in AP mode behind an ISP modem/router (Airtel in India), which handles DHCP
  • iPhone with the Sonos app, ~200 Mbps plan
  • The Orbi has one network name for both bands (no option for separate SSIDs)

Original problem: The whole Sonos system vanished from the app (“No products found”) most mornings, though TV audio over HDMI ARC worked throughout. Restarting the Beam brought it back.

What I found and fixed

  • The ISP modem’s Wi-Fi was on with the same network name as my Orbi, so devices could join either. I turned off the modem’s Wi-Fi.
  • The Orbi was in router mode behind the modem (double router). I switched it to AP mode.
  • AirPlay to the home theater group failed (“Unable to Connect”) while the Sonos app worked. AirPlay worked to the Beam alone and an Era 100 alone, and to my Apple TVs. Resetting all three speakers and re-creating the home theater fixed it.
  • After these changes, Sonos stayed stable for several mornings.

What’s still odd

  1. Enabling 5 GHz on the Orbi breaks Sonos (the Beam drops). With 5 GHz off, everything works, and I still get close to 200 Mbps. The Beam is 2.4 GHz-only. On the modem, with separate 2.4 and 5 GHz names, 5 GHz on never broke anything.
  2. After I turned 5G off, the Orbi’s device list still shows several devices on 5G. It also shows the satellite backhaul on 5G. As far as I know, the RBK350 is dual-band, so the backhaul shares the 5 GHz radio, which may be why.
  3. The Beam sometimes attaches to the satellite (2.4 GHz) even though the satellite is far away and the router is very close. The Orbi’s device list shows which node it uses.
  4. When the Beam moved to the router node, AirPlay stopped working. After I restarted all three speakers it moved back to the satellite, and AirPlay worked again.

Questions

  • Why would enabling 5 GHz on a single-SSID Orbi break a 2.4 GHz-only Beam in a bonded group?
  • On a dual-band Orbi like the RBK350, does turning off “Enable 5G” still leave 5 GHz running for the backhaul, and could that interact with Sonos?
  • Why would the Beam prefer a far satellite over a nearby router, and why would AirPlay depend on which node it uses?
  • Is there an Orbi setting (band steering, multicast/IGMP, AP mode) I should check?

Versions

  • Orbi RBR350 router firmware: V4.4.3.4_3.10.86
  • Orbi RBS350 satellite firmware: V4.4.3.4
  • Sonos app version : 90.01.10 / Beam software: 97.2-81220

Thanks for any help.

Sonos arc ultra rear speakers

Hey reddit,

Processing img l8k7icpip5yh1...

Processing img q88y98pip5yh1...

I am as of now I owner of the sonos arc ultra which I bought recently and enjoy so far.

Mostly I am watching youtube, twitch streams, consuming films and some series from streaming platforms and I have a blue ray collection and watch the movies with my blueray player on my TV.

I was thinking of upgrading my sound setup with two sonos rear speakers and posted a picture of the back of my couch. Would you reccomend the sonos era 100sl, era 300, non, or something else or for my setup and usecases.

I would probably mount the rears with a wallmount above my couch. Cant really position them behind the couch as the wall is level with the back. The wall behind is slightly tilted at a roughly 20 percent angle.

Ray soundbar with era 100 surrounds?

Just got a Sonos Ray. Should my first add on be a pair of era 100s for surround. I’m thinking I rather have more immersion than bass. Is this a good idea?

Sonos amp

I have quite a few Sonos speakers, but I'm setting up a two channel system and was going to just use a Sonos amp as it has a subwoofer out. I was playing with a friend's wiim amp and I can control the crossover point as well as the roll-off from the main speakers. Well I know, Sonos don't believe we deserve any sort of control, and they know better, is it possible to control the roll off to the main speakers? Or do they just receive a full signal and an additional signal sent to the subwoofer? My friend had both, and I did a side-by-side comparison between the WiiM ultra amp and the new Sonos amp, and I have to say there wasn't much difference, but the WiiM gives you so much more control. that I'm really tempted to just go with it

Full Trueplay compatibility?: iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd Generation)

I'm on android, but have some uses for an ipad (even if it is older). Does anyone have any first hand experience using this version of the ipad to do full trueplay? It's not on the unsupported list, but I'd prefer not to waste my money if it ends up not working.

Anyone with Audiophile Ears Using Sonority to Equalize their Arc, Arc Ultra with rears and a sub or submini?

I have ignored the Sonority app till today when I learned it has an equalizer--something many many of us have begged Sonos to put in the app (even in advanced preferences, password protected). Part of the reason ignore it is they advertise the equalizer as giving you bass and treble---but make no reference to what , to my ears has always been missing "midrange adjusting".

Having an ARC, rears a sub, in my living room w/ my TV---the ignorant assumption I made was it would produce super music. I have zero complaints about the ARC, rears, sub as a fantastic system for movies/TV audio--it's never come close for music.

Anyone use the Sonority to equalize their living room set up? What's your subjective experience? Notable gains? any gains.

I'm not sold on it yet--sounds like, if I use it to equalize, it will over ride trueplay and to get trueplay going again (not a deal breaker) I'd have to run trueplay again in the Sonos app.

but I want to know, especially from folks that came into their living room set up (sound bar) from separates --amp, preamp, good speakers for music---have you improved the sound?

I have never been a fan of Sonos signature sound for music with the soundbar (concert films excluded).

Sonos Settings

Hi everyone!
I’m new to the Sonos ecosystem and looking for some recommendations on the best settings for a beginner.
My current setup:
Soundbar: Sonos Beam Gen 2
Subwoofer: Sonos Sub Mini
Room size: 13 × 16 ft
Trueplay tuning: Completed
I recently purchased the Beam Gen 2 and Sub Mini, and I’d love some help fine-tuning the audio settings for the best possible experience.
Could you please recommend the ideal settings for the following?
Bass and Treble: What levels would you recommend for a balanced, immersive sound?
Sub Mini Level: What’s the ideal setting for deep, punchy bass without overpowering dialogue?
Speech Enhancement: When should I turn it on, and is it better to keep it off normally?
Night Mode: When is it useful, and should I enable it only when watching at night?
Height Audio: What does the height level adjustment do, and what setting would you recommend?
Movie vs. Music Settings: Should I use different settings for movies and music? If so, what would you recommend for each?
I’m looking for settings that deliver immersive movie sound, impactful bass, clear dialogue, and enjoyable music playback.
Since I’m a beginner in the Sonos world, I’d really appreciate your recommended settings as a starting point. I can always adjust them to suit my room and personal preferences.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Sonos Roam

First I’ll start that I love my Sonos system overall I have an Arc with subwoofer and surround in our greatroom, connected ceiling speakers in our kitchen and a full surround system in my den. It works flawlessly since we have owned it (4.5 years). My issue is the Sonos Roam. I cannot keep the damn thing connected. I had the same issue with my first Roam, then Sonos replaced it free. Now on my second one and it’s doing the same thing. Every time I want to use it, I have to reset it to reconnect to the system. It’s such a pain that we stopped using it. Any advice to fix this? I love the portability but we really only use it in the bathroom and on our deck. Is the move connection any better or same issues? Very frustrated.

What are best bass feeds on pandora, etc?

I have a 5.2 ( soundbar, 2 rears, 2 subs) that I love for my small living room.

I recently thought…”why search when I can ask” .. so I am asking… for YouTube music, Amazon Music, or pandora what “no singing/words” channels/ feeds / stations / whatever you call them…. Do you like for some booming electronic bass music bouncing between the speakers…?

Sonos own “study hard “ is a favorite of mine,,

(the closest to word music I go is Osaka Jazz or simple guitar playing old standards…)

I prefer YouTube music simply because I have no ad premium (to keep the political ads away / and YouTube has those fun 30s movies I like).

Thanks

Beam Gen 1 awful experience

I’ve never come so close to throwing a product in the bin as I have the beam 1. An updated app has basically removed all my settings and removed the beam from my setup. I’ve had to go through the entire setup again, only to find it will not connect to my network. It seems each time the is a major upgrade to the software this happens. Very frustrating, but this isn’t a rant as we all know the app is garbage.

I’m at a loss as to what to do now. I’ve tried so many times to get the app to connect the beam to my network to no avail. I’ve reloaded the app on my iPhone and hardware reset the beam. Nothing seems to work.

I’m looking for some suggestions as to what to try next before I donate the thing to somebody I don’t like. (Yes I’ve googled it, and yes I’ve tried the suggestions except Ethernet to the router because I don’t have a cable long enough). Ideas?

Thanks.

Why do you love/hate Sonos?

Hello Sonos subreddit!

I’m a grad student studying branding and strategic advertising, and one of the projects I’m currently working on is about Sonos.

I want to learn more about existing Sonos users… and I figured what better way to do that than through this forum.

Sonos’ mission is to “fill every home with music and make listening a valued experience again.” What role does sound play in your every day life, and what does Sonos actually do to elevate your listening experiences?

If you would be open to answering a few casual interview style questions, please reply to this post and I will start a chat with you. If you don’t want to be interviewed but would like to contribute to the conversation- please feel free to leave a reply as well! Any commentary is appreciated.

New to SURROUND, WOW!

I'm not sure why it took me so long, as I've been a SONOS user for years. I finally added 2 Era 100's as surrounds to my Arc Ultra and Sub 4. I'm pretty sure I don't have the ideal, or anything approaching the ideal setup.

  • The Arc sits on a credenza about 10" below and 8" in front of a wall mounted 65" TV.
  • The Sub is on the floor to to left (when facing TV) of the credenza.
  • The TV is about 18" above eye level.
  • The couch is about 8' from the TV.
  • The surrounds are about ear level directly behind either ind of the couch.

When I went looking for ATMOS content I came across Gran Tourismo. OMG 😱🏎️🤣 Even the commercials on regular TV sound amazing 😄

Downloading an app from the Windows App Store to have proper stereo separation on the Arc Ultra ?

Hi Guys,

Earlier today, I received a notification about a post here about the Arc Ultra from someone I don’t know; I’m unsure whether it appeared in the Sonos Sub-Reddit or elsewhere. The author described hearing flat music with poor stereo separation on the Sonos Arc Ultra, then shared a workaround that improved stereo separation by adjusting settings through an app from the Windows App Store on a Windows computer. I can’t seem to find it. Could anyone share the link here if they’ve read it or if the original poster is reading this?

Bought my first Sonos - worst experience ever

Hello,

well, either something is very very broken, or I am doing something very very wrong.

I am a IT tech guy, so I know my way around IT and networks. I have a relatively complex setup at home, but just beforehand: I think I have the network configured well for what Sonos would need. Setup includes Aruba Instant On 1930 coreswitch, Unifi system with US8 Switch and APs, and OPNsense firewall. IP for the Beam is reserved, but that seems to work well. No reservation for the sub.

But, here it is, the issue:

I bought the Sonos Beam Ultra + Sonos Mini Sub.

And the ONLY way I can get these two paired is, if the Beam is wired. I don't know what I already everything tried, turning off 2,4 or 5Ghz, but as soon Beam is on wifi (which works solo) and I try to connect the sub, it "connects", the sub says done, but then it shows "needs attention" and cannot be reached.

Even pairing via wired beam, and then attempting to switch to wireless, breaks the bond.

Either Beam is broken, wifi module or so, or there is some serious firmware issue.

Is there anything known around this?

Unfortunately, I have currently no way to test on independent network, which is less complex than mine.

This was the short version.

For some reason, I see no replies although my notifications say there are 13! Someone said throw pcap into ChatGPT... yeah, will be one of my next steps.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT: The long version, generated by AI.

Here is a general troubleshooting from the whole evening, maybe that clarifies the whole issue better.
But yes, indeed a capture I should do, just no time for it today, because it involves quite a lot of setup...

This is the AI-summary:

SONOS BEAM ULTRA + SUB MINI TROUBLESHOOTING SUMMARY

SETUP

Sonos Beam Ultra and Sub Mini (two Sub Minis tried; the second was a replacement unit).

Network: firewall/router (OPNsense), core switch (Aruba Instant On 1930), edge switch (UniFi US-8), three UniFi APs (AP-1, AP-2, AP-3), one VLAN for Sonos and clients (VLAN-A, subnet <SUBNET-A>), main SSID <SSID-A>.

Beam MAC <BEAM-MAC> (IP <BEAM-IP>). Sub MAC <SUB-MAC>.

Goal: Beam and Sub both fully on Wi-Fi.

SYMPTOM

The Sub pairs in the app, joins the room, then shows "needs attention / not connected". It is not pingable and not in UniFi after bonding. (Losing LAN visibility after bonding is expected; it links to the Beam directly.)

With the Sub joined, the Beam on Wi-Fi flaps between its normal IP and a 169.254.x.x link-local address (SonosZP). It does not do this when powered on without the Sub.

TIMELINE AND FINDINGS

  1. Firewall logs for 224.0.0.22. These are IGMPv3 membership reports. They are not the cause and are harmless within one VLAN.
  2. First Sub. Setup completes, the Sub joins the room, then goes to "needs attention".In UniFi the Sub joined <SSID-A> on 5 GHz channel 36 (-48 dBm) and got an IP, but each session lasted only 29-56 s.Wired tests on edge switch port <PORT-X>: the Sub Mini has an Ethernet port. The port (still carrying an old device name) hopped between the default VLAN, an IoT VLAN (169.254, no DHCP) and VLAN-A, showed 70 anomalies, and was blocked by STP ("to prevent a network loop") each time the Sub was plugged in.
  3. Sub works standalone. On Ethernet with a clean lease it pinged and added to the app without issue.
  4. Beam works standalone. It joined the network and worked fine without the Sub.
  5. Bonding the Sub to the Beam on Wi-Fi fails. The Sub went from pingable to unreachable (expected), then "needs attention".
  6. Second Sub (replacement) has the identical issue, so a faulty Sub is unlikely. The common factors are the Beam and the environment.
  7. Network changes made along the way (none fixed it):- STP changed to RSTP and back; now RSTP on both switches.- Core switch IGMP snooping was enabled with a querier that was configured but not operational (querier address 255.255.255.255). Now fully disabled. Edge switch snooping off.- UniFi: Fast Roaming, BSS Transition, UAPSD, Multicast-to-Unicast and Band Steering all off. Client Device Isolation is not enabled.- Sub DHCP static reservation removed and firewall leases/ARP flushed.- APs on 5 GHz channels 40, 44, 48 at 40 MHz. 44 and 48 share the same 40 MHz block, so they overlap. 20 MHz would separate them.- Beam pinned to the AP above it (AP-1).- TX retries elevated: about 20% for the Beam and 26% for AP-1.
  8. Beam Ultra has no RJ45 port. It was wired via the USB-C Ethernet route (edge switch port <PORT-Y>, GbE).
  9. Key result: with the Beam wired, pairing succeeded and the Sub played audio. After unplugging the cable (switched to WLAN at 22:05), the Sub dropped about 3 minutes later (22:08). UniFi showed no events for the Beam other than the switch to wireless: no roam, disconnect or channel change.
  10. Band observation. After unplugging, the Beam ended up on 2.4 GHz, although it had been on 5 GHz channel 44 before. Some earlier band hopping in the log was caused by turning 5 GHz off during testing.
  11. 2.4 GHz radio disabled on AP-1: the Beam would not join Wi-Fi at all, even after reboot. As soon as 2.4 GHz was enabled again, it joined (on 5 GHz) without a restart.
  12. Latest test: 2.4 GHz disabled at SSID level (not the radio). The Beam stayed online. The Sub's LED blinked white while trying to connect, then stopped blinking. Result not yet confirmed.

CONCLUSIONS SO FAR

- The 224.0.0.22 blocks, IGMP, STP, firewall rules and VLANs are not the root cause. After bonding the Sub no longer uses the LAN, so those layers are not in play.

- Two different Subs fail the same way, and both work with the Beam wired, so the Sub hardware is fine.

- The failure appears only when the Beam is on Wi-Fi, 3 minutes after it leaves Ethernet.

- Open hypothesis: the Sub link requires the Beam to stay on 5 GHz, and the Beam drifts to 2.4 GHz when it leaves the cable.

- Open hypothesis: a fault in the Beam's radio or firmware in Wi-Fi mode while bonded.

File under: technology meets simple beauty.

I got my first Sonos speaker a very long time ago and loved having it in my office. Then we got a cat (RIP Muffin) who loved to chew on tasty wires. This meant I finally had an excuse to invest in Sonos’ top of the line Arc soundbar, a pair of Ones to use as surround speakers, and subwoofer for the living room.

That of course lead to a “Beam” soundbar for the bedroom because an Arc would be overkill for a bedroom. I eventually bought a Series 300 to replace the original One in my office. Which lead to moving the original Ones to the bedroom for use as surround speakers.

On Saturday, I upgraded the One SL’s to Era 100’s in the living room, and then moved all the speakers being used for surround sound to the best locations in the bedroom and living room.

Today I remembered that I can control all of them from my iPad and on the Sonos app. I pulled up Apple Music’s “Discovery Station”, which plays music I’ve never heard before based on what I’ve listened to recently.

To paraphrase the classic Visa commercial:

All kinds of Sonos speakers in every room of the house: low 4-figured number total spread out over the last 10+ years.

Classical guitar music and instrumental Irish melodies wafting through every room of the house in perfect harmony with each other: priceless.

My Sonos experience!

I got my first Sonos piece in June of this year. I wanted to get a speaker for my yard. I went to Best Buy and was demoing a lot of speakers. I came across the Sonos Five. I loved how it sounded. When I told the employee what I was going to use it for he tried to discourage me from buying it because it’s not an outside speaker. I still bought it. I got it home and I set it up in my house and WOW. It sounded amazing. Filled my living room. Really love it. A couple weeks later Best Buy had some sale maybe 4th of July sale and the same speaker was on sale. So I bought another Sonos Five and set them up as Stereo Pair. When I got home at set it up I was a little underwhelmed I actually thought the one speaker sounded better then both. But it still sounded good. It really shined when I separated them about 10 feet apart. Those two speakers are amazing and easy to set up my turntable.

Since I really liked those speakers I started looking at the Sonos Arc Ultra and surrounds. Well in August bestbuy had another sale and I splurged and got the Sonos Arc ultra with two sub 4s and two era 100s. I got the 100s because a lot of people on Reddit said they bought the 300s and it was underwhelming. When I listened to the 300 when I first bought my five I thought it didn’t sound that great. That was in the store though. So I got the whole set up and when I first set it up and watched it on YouTube I thought man I don’t think this is all that great. Was really thinking of returning it. Then I started watching on Amazon prime and watching physical media like Blu-ray and 4k dvds and OMG it’s amazing. The subs while watching movies makes me feel it in my bones. The surrounds are perfect. I was watching the Chicago Bears game the other day and it felt like I was back home at Soldier Field. What’s great about Sonos is I can rearranged my furniture and I can also change my set up. I’m not stuck in one setup. Needless to say Sonos really grew on me from my first listen on watching YouTube videos lol. I still have a couple of days to decide to return it but I’m not I really like this. I put my stereo fives in front by my tv but I have not set them as fronts… YET. I’m just keeping them there for listening to music. They sound great by themselves but when I turn both “rooms” on and they are all playing music it sounds even better. The subs when listening to music sounds good it’s not like room shaking base I would call it clean! I’ve had no connection problems. I do have a mesh router though. Right now I love the era 100s but I’m wondering what the 300s would sound like. lol anyway if anyone is thinking of getting the Sonos home theater… GET IT. The best thing is I can rearrange the speakers no problem. And it does sound amazing IMO! Thank you to this subreddit as well!
