Is wire free actually easier when the garden keeps changing?

Anyone here happy with a boundary wire setup? Most of the newer mowers I've been looking at are wire free.

I'm planning to add a couple of raised vegetable beds this winter, and I may move the flower beds around later too. I'm wondering how much hassle a wire free mower would actually save as the garden layout changes. Can you make small boundary changes in the app, or do you sometimes have to map the whole garden again?

Has anyone using mova or navimow changed their layout after mapping? If you use boundary wire, how annoying is it to move one section?

How much do you trust mower reviews?

I’m looking into robot mowers for next spring, but there are so many options lol. Some get great ratings, but owner reviews are pretty mixed.

Do you guys trust expert reviews or owner feedback more? How did you pick the right mower for your yard?

Btw I’ve been eyeing GOAT O1000 RTK since Consumer Reports rated it a Smart Buy. Anyone here tried it? Any thoughts?

What mower should I get next? My X430 seems overkill

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi all,

I've got my first robotic lawn mower and I'm still within my 90 return window. I'll be returning the Navimow x430 and picking out a new mower in the spring. Here are my experiences, what should I get instead?

Pros:

+ Clean & quick cut.

+ No issues with lawn height or consistency of cut.

+ It can do almost my whole yard on a single charge.

Cons:

- NRTK doesn't let me put mower where I want (heavy tree canopy rear yard).

- App seemed clunky at times

- Vison didn't seem to work well, it would run into Halloween decorations until the bumper sensor was triggered

- seems like overkill for my size yard

Need to have:

- gate controls. One reason I got the Navimow was because it has a fence model. I didn't get to test this, but it was one of the main cons of my setup. I often forgot to mow the yard because I needed to run it manually to manage my zones outside the fence. I have two small dogs (Cavalier King Charles Spaniels).

- AWD. We have a walkout basement and a steep hill.

I'm thinking of just returning the x430 and getting an i215 lidar with the gate and still save $400. The app stuff I can live with, a solution for the gate is a requirement. Thoughts if there are other brands to explore?

I Tested $20 Titanium Blades on My Luba 3: How Did They Compare To Factory Ones?

Not sure if everyone saw my last post that focused on before/after factory razor blade comparison...I took it a step further and copared the KuddinX Titanium Razor Blades for the Luba 3 against new factory blades.

Pretty straightforward test, did a before preview of the cut quality with the new factory blades and then installed the KuddinX Titanium Blades and ran the same test on my lawn to see if there is a difference.

Off the bat, it seems the titanium blades are sharper and have a cleaner cut, did not have enough time to test this out over the long term since I sold my Luba 3 shortly thereafter.

What are everyone's thoughts on factory blades vs. aftermarket titanium ones?

Why isn't Kress more popular?

I believe Kress is more known for their commercial products, but they also make a few residential mowers, and they look very impressive! I remember seeing some comments a few months ago from someone that installs them professionally, and they said that they switched from installing Navimow to Kress for their customers and the Kress customers have had significantly less issues and have been very happy. Kress also has a local dealer network, which in theory, should make them easier to service.

However, I almost never see people on here that own or recommend Kress. Why is that? I plan to purchase a new mower in the spring and I'm debating between Navimow and Kress. I really like the Kress, but the lack of buzz around them gives me some pause.

Three weeks of robot mower research, four names left, and five things I still cannot answer from a spec sheet

About 0.4 acres here, mostly fescue, with a slope out back that I mow sideways and hate. Two kids, so the yard gets used. I've spent three weeks on this sub, product pages and too much YouTube, and I want something picked before spring.

Four names are still on the list. Luba 3 AWD is there for the slope. Goko M6 pairs 4WD and four obstacle cameras with RTK, and the battery can be expanded later, though coming off Kickstarter counts against it for me. Navimow X450 stays because half the threads here seem to end on it, and TerraMow X AWD because I like the idea of cameras doing the navigating.

What none of the pages tell me:

  1. How often yours actually gets stuck in a week, and on what.

  2. Whether a firmware update ever changed how it drives. A couple of threads here say the turns got rougher after one.

  3. If multi-zone only counts zones that connect, or yours handles a separate patch without being carried.

  4. How many minutes of trimming are left after.

  5. Why one owner calls a model gentle and the next calls it a turf ripper. Wet grass, or the turns?

Own any robot mower? Pick whichever one you can answer for yours, no need to do all five.

Husqvarna 420iQ freaking out on transit route between mowing areas

I have a home with a narrow passage (seven feet) between the front and back yards - two different mowing areas. The mower is heading down the passageway, partially covered by house eaves, and about half of the time it freaks out - it does a back and forth and side to side dance and then issues the status message "Trapped" to my phone. I have moved the path of the mower as far to the "sky side" as I can, but it hasn't solved the problem.

Has anyone else run across this issue? If so, how did you resolve it? I was considering moving my EPOS transmitter to the far corner eaves so it has a clear view of satellites and also the offending pathway and base station. But I'm wondering if there's something else I might be missing. According to support I'd need to basically start from scratch, remapping everything. I'd like to avoid that if possible because my yard is a bit complicated with trees and many keep out areas.

Otherwise I'm super happy with this mower. I have a quarter acre of cutting area that isn't always even and this thing cuts perfectly - after a few passes. I know my lawn will look amazing, every day, once this is sorted. It's just this one thing that's a drag.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

This is a combo push mower/robotic mower. Surely one of the most innovative products at the show. Go to 30:09.

I could easily see mowing the perimeter plus maybe around no-go zones manually, then having the robot take over the rest.

The only questions are the probably hefty price -- and if it could be imported to the US under the current regime.

How are you reducing lawn work for aging parents?

Thinking about getting my parents a robot mower for mowing. They’re both close to 70. They can still handle some yard stuff, but pushing a mower around in summer doesn’t feel like a great idea, especially with a small slope near the backyard. Their lawn is about 0.2 acres. A lawn service would be around $150/month, so close to $2k a year. I looked for at robot mowers for that size, like Navimow i210 and Mammotion Yuka Mini 2, both around $1300. They would be worth it for using years What I’m unsure about is the real mowing performance, especially whether the edges still need manual touch-up.

What would you recommend lawn service or a robot mower? If going with a robot mower, are there any brands or models that have worked well for you? Thanks!

Are robot mowers friendly for someone who isn’t patient with apps or smart home things?

I’m thinking about getting my dad a robot mower during BFW and am looking at Navimow X430. He’s not very patient with apps or smart home stuff. I can help with the initial setup, but the daily adjustments would be on him. If something needs constant tweaking, he’ll probably give up and go back to his old mower. His yard is about 0.7 acres, pretty flat, with one pond and a few trees.

For anyone who has bought one for themselves or a parent, how much daily app checking is needed after the first setup? Things like adjusting the map or schedule, are those simple?

How often do change blades on a robot mower?

I've had my Navimow i206 for about 6 weeks now, and happy with the cut quality so far.

One thing I've noticed is that grass clippings and sticky residue build up under the deck. It's probably because of a few damp mornings lately. I have Bermuda and run it twice a week, so the app is showing around 80 hours now. I cleaned the disc and found that my blades were a little dull already.

I guess they're still ok to mow for now, but I have no idea when it's time to replace them. Do you guys just wait for the app notification to change them, or do you check them for a fixed period? Due to my high cutting frequency, I'm afraid that it's too late if I wait for my app to tell me. Any thoughts?

Have robot mowers finally gotten mature enough? Lymow vs Navimow vs Mammotion

I’ve wanted a robot mower for a few years now, but always held off because the tech just didn’t seem quite there yet. This year the newer generation seems like a big step forward tho and I’m finally thinking it might be time to buy one.

My yard is around 1 acre and mostly flat. There are a few shrubs and fence around the propert, so I do care about how well mowers handle edges, obstacles, and staying inside their mapped boundaries.

Right now I’m mainly looking at Lymow, Segway and Mammotion. Watched a bunch of videos but they're probably sponsored. So I don't quite trust them and want to hear some thoughts from real owners.

For you guys, which one is more reliable? Would you buy the same brand again?
