As we all know, Renn Faires have become more popular, and with that there are more scams and bots out there for tickets.

The Reddit Renaissance Festival FAQ

What is a Renaissance festival?

A Renaissance festival or faire is a themed event that typically takes place outdoors, like a county fair, but showcases elements of the Renaissance period, such as music, dance, food, arts and crafts, and historical reenactments.

When and where do Renaissance festivals take place?

Start by checking The Ren List. Renaissance festivals are held at various times throughout the year, depending on the location. They can be found in many cities and towns across the United States and around the world.

What should I wear to a Renaissance festival?

You can pretty much wear anything you like. Attendees are encouraged to dress in Renaissance-themed attire, but there are usually no strict guidelines (check with your local festival for rules). Many people also choose to wear costumes from other fandoms.

Can I bring a sword, axe, or other weapon?

Some Renaissance festivals allow swords as part of a costume if they are properly sheathed and "peace tied". "Peace tied" means the sword is secured in a sheath or scabbard so it can't be removed or openly displayed. Some festivals do not allow weapons at all. Check with your local festival for more information.

What can I expect to see and do at a Renaissance festival?

At a Renaissance festival, you can expect to see various performers, including musicians, jugglers, dancers, and actors. There are also craft vendors selling handmade goods, food vendors, and interactive activities like archery and sword fighting demonstrations.

Can I bring my own food and drinks to a Renaissance festival?

Most Renaissance festivals have food and drink vendors on-site, so outside food and drinks may not be allowed. However, some festivals do allow you to bring in a water bottle or small snack. Contact your local festival for more information.

Are Renaissance festivals family-friendly?

Yes, Renaissance festivals are typically family-friendly events with activities and entertainment for all ages. There are usually children's areas with games and crafts, as well as family-friendly performances and demonstrations.

How much does it cost to attend a Renaissance festival?

The cost of attending a Renaissance festival can vary depending on the location and the activities offered. Tickets are usually sold in advance or at the gate, and prices may range from $20 to $50 per person.

Can I participate in a Renaissance festival?

Many Renaissance festivals rely on both employees and volunteers to help with various aspects of the event, such as set-up, ticket sales, and clean-up. If you are interested in participating as a performer or vendor, you can contact the festival organizers for more information. Another option is to join a “guild” or a group of performers. You can ask your local festival for guild information.

I'd like to share some photos that I took at the England's Medieval Festival this August.

For anyone interested, this event happens once a year during a Bank Holliday weekend in East Sussex, England.

I've been to Tewkesbury medieval festival and I have to say that I had a better time there as it was much more focused on the medieval aspect than fantasy. But, I still had a good time at England's medieval festival. I'd say that it is more aimed towards people who enjoy the fairytale aspect of medieval fantasy and It also seems like a great place for family with kids.

Wildwood Faire. Saw some people from KHRF!

I wanted to go to Ohio, it was not to be. Consoled myself with a trip to Wildwood Faire, held at Equus Run Vineyards. I did not have a cloak, and didn't see that there would be a vendor there with one, so the garb more suited for KY in the summer stayed in the tote.

Still a nice afternoon, I ran into some of my favorite characters from KHRF, and got some goodies from the vendors, including a necklace that flips and I can't keep from spinning it. Also, look at the princess puppy!

This weekend was Myth and Monsters at the Ohio Renaissance Festival, and I had some really cool visitors stop by the shop! I got some great pictures, so I wanted to share them with everyone. All the pictures in this post fit the theme of the weekend.

Next week, I’m planning to take pictures of the general Faire so everyone can see more of what goes on around here.

Hope you enjoy the pictures!

May I present Pickle Dagger? As a bonus, vaguely threatening and much easier to eat while watching the joust.

I made everything except for the boots, pants, bag, and shirt. The bracers were the most amount of work, but the tooling and painting were the most time consuming parts. And my Mjolnirrow held up the whole day for a hasty application and second attempt at this look!

Unlike my MD Ren Faire experience, I got to actually rock my sword at the PA Ren Faire. Plus the atmosphere and size there is much nicer and more manageable. Had a great time in the last weekend!

Free GPS map for TRF. Huzzah!!!

I can't find an HQ version of the 2026 map, so I tried to combine the 2025 and 2026 maps via AI. So, you will see a differents in quality across the map.

How to setup a offline bookmark "App" on your phone:

Link: https://atxguitarist.github.io/TRF_MAP/

Android (use Chrome)

  1. Open the link in Chrome.
  2. Tap Find me and allow location.
  3. Tap the three-dot menu, then Install app (or Add to Home screen).
  4. Open it from the new icon and let the map load. That saves it to your phone.

iPhone (use Safari)

  1. Open the link in Safari. Links opened inside Messages, Reddit or Mail won’t install properly, so use “Open in Safari” if the app offers it.
  2. Tap Find me and allow location (and motion/orientation access, which powers the direction arrow).
  3. Tap the Share button (square with an arrow), scroll down, and tap Add to Home Screen, then Add.
  4. Open it from the new home screen icon and let the map load. That saves it to your phone.

Please let me how it goes for y'all at the fair.

Huzzah!!!

The Maryland Renaissance Festival made me smarter.

Sunday was the last day of this season's Festival, and after umpteen years of attending, it finally dawned on me that I can use the shields on the palisade wall to help me find my car. What can I say? I'm an unwashed peasant.

First RenFaire In The Books!

Big thanks to everyone who encouraged my craziness on a previous post. 🙏🏻

I attended my first ever RenFaire this weekend and ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! 🤩

I will most certainly be back to another one (or two or more!) in the future.

My favorite parts were the Celtic Music bands (shout out to Craic and Reeling Rogues) and all of the lovely people dressed up in a glorious variety of costumes and colors and textures and themes… I just walked around for hours and gawked at all of your creativity like a I was freaking tourist.

If you see me at a Faire in the future, come say hi! I love meeting new friends.

🤔 QUESTION: how many different Faire outfits do you have? Or do you just rock the one over and over again? Genuinely curious what different people do….
