Our Offical Guides Newcomers Guide
Hello and welcome to r/RDR2 This is a little guide for new players of the game.
Firstly we strongly advise you to stay off the subreddit until youâve finished the game. Our subreddit is home to discussions covering every aspect of the game from storylines, characters, secrets, to anything a player may find. While we require spoiler tags, accidental (and sometimes intentional) spoilers do happen. For the best experience, we strongly recommend avoiding the subreddit until youâve completed the main story.
Frequently asked questions will now be listed and answered.
Is the game worth it? Yes! â People still praise this game even in 2025. Its compelling story and detailed open world gameplay allow you to fully submerge into the story. Many players find the game to be a masterpiece, with some (us, of course) even considering it one of the greatest games of all time. Its graphics were ahead of their time and still hold up really well. Itâs a well written story with a beautiful aesthetic and it's absolutely worth your time.
The snow part is boring. Should I quit the game? Don't give up during Colter. Itâs the first chapter and serves as a tutorial. Youâll get to know the basics of the game slowly before being led into free roam in chapter 2. The slow introduction into such a big game is important to understand the situation the main character is in and to get you familiar with the environment and the world building in general. Stick around for a while. Youâll thank yourself later.
Just started the game. Any tips? We see this all the time and every time people will give you the same response: Take it slow. Chapter 1 will teach you everything that's important. The game offers a little guide in its settings for the mini games and the controls just like any other game. Everything you need is right there. The game is open world so you won't miss out on anything. You can do whatever whenever even after finishing the story. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and free roam a bit. Youâll figure out the game fast. You really don't need Google or IGN until you finish the story and are going for 100% and/or the platinum trophy. (We'll have a guide coming soon!)
Just finished the game. Should I play RDR1? Yes! RDR1 is a continuation of the story and absolutely worth it. Not much will change gameplay wise since itâs made by the same developer. So, if you like RDR2 and are looking for more content about the van der Linde gang and a similar experience -> play RDR1.
If you really want to avoid spoilers, donât google anything until after you finish the game.
We will monitor this thread closely so if you have any questions about the game please ask them in here. We will most likely remove your question posts and advise you to ask your newcomer questions in here. If a question is frequently asked we will add it to the post.
Have fun!

Discussion This game still makes meâŚ
Cry.
On my 5th play through, close to end game.
Itâs been a couple years since the last play through.
I actually uncovered and searched out a lot of stuff I never had found. Super satisfying. But!
Anyone else find it hard to go through with finishing up?
Every goddamn time, it ruins gaming me for weeks. Like it haunts me.
Every goddamn time, wherever I am in my life, Arthurâs story just hits me. Truly hits a spot in me that I never truly knew existed until I played âa video gameâ.
42 years old and still getting emotional after 8 years since itâs release and numerous play throughs (good and bad).
I know GTA 6 is coming soon and honestly, half the reason I said fuck it, letâs do another 150hrs for another play through with RDR2 was to remember it clearly before I dive into an actual Rockstar unknown game.
I dunno, Iâm thankful for emotions but fuck!
Best game ever.

Discussion It's been 8 years and I have noticed it just today
I have been to Armadillo earlier, though not too often as story didn't need it to, also it's on far west so been there less. But just today I have noticed this guy burning those infected people near Armadillo. Damn this game is too big and too good

Discussion Saving random hats
One thing RDR3 needs to do is let us save all hats we find in the wild, I really love this hat I stole from a lawman. Of course on PC mods make ua able to buy all styles of hats but on console we gotta be careful not to lose the hats we steal. Kinda stupid and I hope they let us loot more stuff and let us save it all in the next RDR game.

Content So this is what I made for his birthday gift
THANK YOU SO MUCHHHH EVERYONE for allllll the ideas on what to gift my Boyfriend. I had my final exams going on so I couldnât make the entire trunk but I did end up making Arthurâs hat ( paperweight) from Airdry clay and all 12 cigarette packs and reworded Maryâs letter to make it not so sad đ.
He LOVED the gift.
Still have a little surprise left for his birthday đ¤ just need to finish it up once my exams are done.
Special thanks to u/celinho_ss for PDFs for the cards.

Help My horse, splonker, exploded and died
Hi I need help reddit my horse Splonker died and I don't know how to get him back. The game glitched out and he teleported into a rock, and then into the air 25ft or so and his legs came off so I alt f4ed but when I returned he was still gone. It would never give me the option for horse reviver. It's probably worth pointing out the horse appears to be exploded. Am I just buggered? Gah.
I attached a picture of my horse anyhowww some people might get some kicks from it
Anyway George signing out

Discussion Dog
In my experience, to go through the steps of petting the dog, I think that it's worth it, but , the real question is, what motivates you to actually pet the animal?
r/RDR2 • u/thegeneralred • 11h ago
Question How many pelts are you storing on your horse?
17 pelts presently and a big old elk skin on the back. Iâve seen videos where people have 8+ of pelts so my question is - whatâs the maximum number of pelts you can hang across your horses bum?
Edit: I save pretty regularly in case something unforeseen gets me. Donât wanna lose my stash!

Discussion Caught a 19 pound Northern Pike with cheese?
Just felt like sharing lol. I was between Shady Belle and Catfish Jacksonâs trying to get some gritty fish for potent predator bait.
I had actually been using a reg. river lure a bit before, but didnât get any bites! Funny enough right after swapping to cheese and moving closer to shore I ended up with a honkin northern pike. Got a few bluegill after hauling it home lol

Discussion I'm procrastinating finishing the game
I don't want Arthur to die so I just keep procrastinating finishing the game but this is taking me way too long, it's been almost 2 years since I started playing itđđđť
Spoilers I just Finished the game and 100% it
After 322 hours, I have completed RDR2, I know I'm late to the party, better later than never.
What a rollercoaster and masterpiece of a game, I didn't avoid the spoiler about Arthur's faith after 8 years but the journey was worth it. I honestly didn't expect to enjoy as much the game and be so emotionally invested and attached to the characters and story overall, it made me feel things that I don't usually feel in games, all the interactions, little details made it a masterpiece, a game of a lifetime.
Thank you Rockstar and all the crew for making such an piece of art of a game, I can firmly say Arthur Morgan is probably my favourite video game character, Roger Clark did an incredible job to convey his feelings and developments and show how realistic Arthur was, even knowing his fate, I was just in tears for the final showdown and his last moment.
The 100% journey was quite long but it was completely worth it, I even went for full gold medals for all the missions, some achievements involving RNG sometimes made me pull my hair lol.
