Resource List / Frequently Asked Questions

With AI making it harder to make a simple Google search as well as frequently presenting misinformation as fact, as well as to help players with questions they often come here for, I felt it would be helpful to compile a list of frequently asked questions and useful resources about pokemon platinum and gen 4.

Useful Websites and Pages

Game Data, Encyclopedias, and Guides

  • serebii.net: the best source of moveset data, encounter data, and more; the best "online Pokédex" available. Using the search feature to get to the Pokédex is recommended, but their Platinum Directory should get you where you need.
  • marriland.com: their EV training guide, shiny pokemon guide, and team builder tool are all useful. They used to have a walkthrough but it's not currently available.
  • Bulbapedia is quite saturated with irrelevant information and it isn't the easiest to navigate to game data, especially for oldgens, but it's great for finding specific item locations, in-depth descriptions of how moves, abilities, and other mechanics function, and movesets of boss trainers. Their walkthrough is also one of the best.
  • Smogon contains a compendium of PvP/competitive sets and articles, and they also have several In-Game Articles! this includes guides on RNG Abuse, Pokémon Radar Chaining, Battle Frontier, and more. Note however a lot of the in-game content is from the game's release window and player sentiment may have since changed, eg that in-game tier list is extremely dated. However, their PvP content is still being updated and should all be current.
  • This Pastebin contains the moveset and stat data for all NPC trainers. Useful for challenge runs.

Battle Frontier

  • Smogon Forums have a great thread of resources and info, including Trainer Sets, Speed Tiers, and some strategy guides

  • QoL Hack/Patch Collection including the Following Pokémon Mod. Note that it's best to avoid using cheats in QoL hacks; since offsets are different, using cheats in Romhacks can have unpredictable effects including breaking event flags, making progression impossible and potentially permanently softlocking your save file.
  • Ultimate Pokémon Randomizer: a program that allows you to customize various gameplay aspects including starters, encounters, and much more. It can be used for randomizing the game in many capacities, as well as to remove Trade Evolutions.
  • DSPRE is a comprehensive rom hacking tool that allows you to make your own romhack and/or make small changes to the game as you see fit, such as decapitalizing Pokémon names, removing trade evolutions, changing starters or encounters or trainers, and a whole lot of other options. It can do as much or as little as you like.

Nope, sorry. This hasn't been innovated in any DS romhacks or cheats yet. You'll have to learn how to manage Exp or use other cheats like item duplication for extra Exp Shares or Rare Candies.

Where Can I Download this Game?

Sharing links to ROMs is not allowed on this sub. Go to [r/roms](r/roms). See also our How Can I Play this Game guide for choosing and setting up an emulator.

Where Can I Buy a Real Copy?

eBay, AliExpress, and other sellers with purchase protection are recommended; the market is flooded with fakes and being able to get a refund is important. With the lack of accessibility of a real cartridge in 2025, emulation and custom firmware is a recommended alternative; see our How Can I Play this Game guide as well as cartridge verification guides.

Can I Use a Fake Copy of the Game?

Sometimes they work fine, but generally this is not recommended. Many fake cartridges have issues with freezing, and especially with loss or corruption of save data. There is no reason to purchase or use a fake copy since flashcarts and emulation are cheaper, more versatile, and work better, and fake copies are functionally and legally the exact same as pirated roms.

Is My Copy of the Game Real?

Ask on [r/gameverifying](r/gameverifying), not here. But before making a post there, learn how to identify this yourself using the guides on their site, you may be able to catch a fake yourself without needing to post.

Trade Evolution Guide - All Hardware!

Trade Evolution is a feature Pokémon has featured since its inception that is generally reviled for its inaccessibility and/or financial barriers; this is even more of a challenge with a game like platinum that is almost 20 years old now and thus has less active players, no more official online services, and real hardware has become an increasingly less accessible way to play. Luckily, players have worked out many other ways of evolving these Pokémon with just one system using fanmade tools and resources, even if that one system is an emulator. If you're looking to evolve your Pokémon but can't do so "the normal way," this guide is for you! We'll go into every method, as well as their advantages and disadvantages, below.

Standard Method

The normal way of triggering trade evolution is trading a Pokémon from one game to another. This will generally requires two DS family systems and the ability to play a gen 4 game on each.

This is possible through local multiplayer the way it's always been, just get within about 65 feet of one another and enter the union room on the second floor of the Pokémon center. Note that local wireless multiplayer does not work on phone emulators.

Online this is still possible through connecting to the fan-run DNS server using this Guide and trade with other players online; however, the WiFi room is finicky. It will only work if you're connected to a router, not a hotspot, and sometimes still will not work. Online multiplayer should work on iPhones with the Delta Ultimate Multiplayer Guide, not sure about Android, please let me know if you know more.

Save Editing Method

If you're playing on anything except for a real cartridge on a DS Lite or Phat, save editing is the easiest and most accessible method to evolving a Pokémon by "Trade" in this day and age.

Essentially, this method is executed by opening up your save file in a save editor such as PKHex, PKMDS, etc, and changing your unevolved Pokémon into its evolved form. PKMDS even has an "evolve Pokémon" button!

For more specific instructions and software recommendations see this sub's Save Editing Guide.

This is the easiest method on a phone and the fastest method on a DSi or 3DS/2DS. This method requires custom firmware if performed on a DSi or 3DS/2DS family system; custom firmware is generally recommended for using these devices in the present day due to its ability replicate or replace many inaccessible or cumbersome features and its lack of disadvantages. If this is inaccessible to you, other methods are recommended instead.

GTS Method

Using the GTS in Jubilife City, a glitch exists where you can evolve your Pokémon by depositing your Pokémon, engaging in a separate trade, and then removing the Pokémon you deposited.

The GTS Method has the advantage of being no-mod, but has the disadvantage of requiring execution of the DNS Exploit, which isn't accessible to everyone since it requires an Unsecured (aka WEP) Internet Connection, which is impossible with an iPhone's Personal Hotspot feature but possible on other phones like Android. It also requires you to engage in a separate online trade, so you can only perform this method if you're able to find a GTS trade you can make.

Bulbapedia has a guide on executing this glitch. To connect to the fan DNS server to access the GTS, follow this Guide

ROM Editing Method

If you're emulating or sideloading on any hardware, using a modified version of the game itself can be a nice one-and-done way to remove the need to trade to evolve Pokémon. Universal Pokémon Randomizer can do this for you with the "Remove Trade Evolutions" option, and many other QoL Patches and ROM Hacks exist as well. Essentially these mods can be applied to a ROM of Pokémon platinum to change trade evolutions into other methods; follow the patching instructions in their individual threads to set them up. This method has the advantage of only needing to be done once - simply patch the game and you never need to do anything special to activate trade evolution again. It's quite convenient if you

However, this method can lead to some pretty big gameplay differences. These methods tend to replace trade evolutions with other methods, in many cases using or leveling up with an item, but sometimes level up evolutions come at late levels like late 30s, which is much later than when most trade evolutions are normally available. Having to wait, for example in UPR's case, 22 extra levels for Alakazam because you can't access trading is pretty ridiculous and makes a huge difference in gameplay. Full-on QoL patches tend to have other gameplay differences which you may and may not like; a pretty notable one in the most popular patch that changes the game quite a bit is infinite TMs. Overall save editing can accomplish what these patches can do pretty easily and you need the same resources to access them in most cases so I don't love it, since I'd rather edit my save for QOL purposes directly on an as-needed basis rather than committing to a patch that changes the game at the beginning. However, this method may be exactly what you're looking for and accessible to you.

Another consideration is that cheats do not work well on romhacks. This is because the offsets that cheats overwrite are often moved in romhacks. This can potentially lead to your save file being softlocked, since this can break progression event flags. We've seen multiple posts about this happening with the main QoL hack, PlatinumQoL. If you plan to use cheats, it's best to avoid this method and look to others.

You can also edit your ROM however you like using DSPRE, including changing trade evolutions into whatever trigger you like.

Self-Trading Method

In melonDS on PC, you can trade with yourself by opening two instances of the game. Here is a guide to doing so

I don't know of a way to do this on a phone.

If you're using DesMuMe, consider using melonDS instead; DesMuMe is no longer being updated as of 2022 and does not support multiplayer.

Choosing a Method

As usual the best method for achieving these workarounds will depend on the hardware you are playing on, what other resources you have accessible, and personal preference.

I will not be mentioning the standard method here; generally I figure you probably don't need to look at this guide to learn how to do it and are aware of whether it is a good/accessible option for you or not. It is a fine method if it is accessible to you, but is still more cumbersome than save editing on devices with access to that.

If you have access to multiple methods:

  • GTS Method is recommended if you want or need to be no-mod.
  • Save Editing is generally fastest and easiest, but must be done for every Pokémon you want to evolve.
  • An Edited ROM only needs to be changed once, but may present other gameplay differences you may or may not like.
  • Self-trading only works on computers and save editing works fine there and is easy and does not require entering the union room or watching a trade or evolution animation. From there it's personal preference.

On a DS Phat or Lite running a real cartridge, the GTS Method is really your only option since you cannot modify the ROM on a real cart or dump your save to edit without a cartridge dumper. On a flashcart, save editing is easy, using an edited rom is easy, and the GTS Method should also work if it's accessible to you.

On a DSi running a real cartridge, Save Editing is recommended; Pokémon Chest is the recommended tool for doing so since this is doable from the DSi with no other devices. If you do not have access to CFW, the GTS Method is recommended instead, if you have access to it. With Twilight Menu, you can edit your save, or use a modified ROM. The GTS Method should still work, but there is no reason to use it. I don't know how hiyaCFW injects work but at the very least save editing with PKHex will work after dumping your save, and a modified ROM would be easy to set up, there also is no reason besides lack of access that GTS wouldn't work that I can think of. On a flashcart, save editing is easy, using an edited rom is easy, and the GTS Method should also work if it's accessible to you.

With a 3ds or 2ds family system running a real cartridge, Save Editing with PKSM is recommended. The GTS Method will work if you have no access to CFW but access to an unsecured WiFi network. With Twilight Menu or a Forwarder, see the guide on - How to get PKSM to work for NDS games and use PKSM, or edit the save directly from the SD card on another device with PKHex or PKMDS. There is no reason to do it if you're emulating but the GTS Method should also work, and obviously emulating a modified ROM will too.

On any phone emulator, save editing directly from your device with PKMDS is recommended, and a modified ROM will work too. On Delta for iPhone, you also can access the GTS Method if you really want, using the instructions in the Delta Ultimate Multiplayer Guide. I don't know anything about Android emulators.

On a computer-based emulator, which will probably be melonDS, you can Self-Trade or Edit Your Save for roughly equal effort and time commitment. On other emulators (which are likely dated,) Save Editing is recommended. Setting up a modified ROM is also obviously easy on a computer.

On a Wii U running an UWUVCI inject, injecting an Edited ROM is recommended, since I don't know of a way to import an edited save on one of these. Please let me know if you do! With the NooDS emulator, Save Editing with PKHex or PKMDS on another device is recommended. I actually have both set up on my Wii U but do not have access to the DNS Exploit - please let me know if you know whether the Wii U supports it!

On other emulation devices such as the Miyoo Mini, R36S, Ayn Thor, a modded Switch, or anything else that runs the game off an SD card or other external drive, save editing or a modified ROM is recommended.

The Spiritomb Factor

Spiritomb isn't a "Trade Evolution," but it's an encounter that traditionally requires Multiplayer to activate; you have to go Underground 32 times and talk to another player each time. However these methods to avoid Trade Evolution Requirements also apply to Spritomb.

With PKHex, you're able onto edit Event Flags (think of these like "triggers" that make story events & encounters happen when you achieve their requirements) to make Spiritomb ready to encounter. Event Flags are under the "Sav" tab in the UI, and the 4th comment on this PokéCommunity Thread shows the proper settings to use in the "Spiritomb" and "Hallowed Tower" drop downs.

If the Patched ROM method is more your fancy, that works here too! Most QoL Patches in the Collection make Spiritomb accessible without Multiplayer. Unfortunately, Universal Pokémon Randomizer can't help with this, correct me if I'm wrong.

On a computer, opening two instances of melonDS will work for triggering the standard method, but takes so much more time than save editing that it is way more trouble than it's worth.

There is no way to use online services, including fanmade ones, to meet other players Underground, since Underground is local-multiplayer-only.

- Infernape (Wide Lens): Fire Blast, Focus Blast, Nasty Plot, Slack off
Used a berry and natural gift instead of slack of to take 50% off garchomp with 4x effective ice move.
Wanted to try out delaying him so evolved Chimchar after getting Nasty Plot and Monferno after learning Slack off. Having Nasty Plot made me try out his best special attacks and thus had to use Wide Lens.

- Ambipom (Razor Fang): Fling, Last Resort
Used him to deal the first half to garchomp with fling flinch and then last resort which deals crazy damage and outspeeds ofc

- Probopass (Hard Stone): EQ, Power Gem, Rest, Rock Smash
Lowk only used EQ and Power Gem. He walls Spirittomb so hard.

- Rotom: Thunderbolt, Shadowball, Confuse Ray, Substitute.
only really used the first two moves.

- Azumarill: Auqatail, Waterfall, Double Edge, Grass Knot
Delayed Marill until 37 to obtain Aquatail 10lvl earlier too. This and huge power made her deal good damage icl.

- Chatot: Chatter, Fly, Hyper Voice, Sing.
Sadly quite bad of a mon but dealt with the pokemon so safe hp on Infernape.

What do you guys think about the team, especially about the delay options but ofc the other pokemons too. Was fun to try it out and kinda like Ambipom overall so was cool to spam return and later the last resort strat. Sadly he doesnt learn Fake Out without breeding so it wasnt an option :(

An unbelievable amount of luck was in my favor for this fight. I was grossly underprepared for this fight for a lot of reasons. I had to use Psychic on Starmie because it was choiced. I cannot believe I won this.

Renegade Platinum Update - Roark

Phanpy (shiny too which is cool) is a cheat code for this gym…
He always leads with Nosepass, with 2 electric type moves, stealth rock and sandstorm. Classic setup ‘mon.
Phanpy being ground type makes him immune to electric moves and the sandstorm. Stealth rock doesn’t hurt until you sub in.

So I got to set up 6 defence curls, and then chip away nosepass, use her super potion.
Then rollout, a move that gets stronger each time it hits, up to x5, to deal with the next mon.
4 hits with rollout did the job.

Then in came Cranidos on a x5 rollout one-shotting it.

A couple bulldozes later and a switch to Wooper to clean up with water pulse and I got it done.

Teambuilding Mamoswine vs Weavile

I'm on my first run in ages, my team will be by the end Infernape, garchomp, staraptor(very original I know), luxray(maybe electivire), roserade or gardevoir and I want either weavile or mamoswine for ice and I like them both. I don't know which is better for my team, since mamoswine overlaps earth with garchomp, but at the same time a crunch garchomp could cover against weak to dark pokemons.

Thanks to everybody who contributes.

Breaking the Binary - Probopass

Post image
49 Upvotes

Welcome to Breaking the Binary, a sporadic series of posts all about mixed attackers in Pokémon Platinum. With competitive minmaxing dominating the conversation about Pokémon viability and the design philosophy behind movepools and stat spreads changing in newer gens, Pokémon are often rigidly divided by the fandom into the categories of "special attacker" or "physical attacker." But for the in-game story, you're not facing EV trained opponents and thus don't need to EV train to keep up, so mixed attacking sets don't have the opportunity cost they have in PvP. Going mixed still has anti-synergy with setup moves, but it still can give many Pokémon access to STAB moves with better base power, strong coverage moves with useful types, and more useful niches. This series will be covering those applications. We won't talk about every Pokémon here, only ones that I believe legitimately benefit from going mixed, but those Pokémon are surprisingly large in number. Today we'll be talking about Probopass. I'll be talking about in-game but feel free to discuss PvP or battle facilities as well.

The first of Platinum's new Pokémon we'll cover, Probopass is a Rock/Steel Pokémon with only 60 base HP but massive defenses, 145 Def and 150 SpDef. It's incredibly slow with base 40 speed, and has poor mixed offenses, 55 Atk and 75 SpA. Notable physical attacks include Rock Slide, Stone Edge, Earthquake, Fire Punch, Ice Punch,  ThunderPunch, and Explosion. Notable special attacks include Power Gem, Flash Cannon, Thunderbolt, and Thunder. Notable utility includes Magnet Rise, Toxic, Stealth Rock, and Iron Defense.

Probopass's offenses aren't amazing, but with no reliable recovery, attacks can still be worth running on it instead of toxic unless you plan on using a lot of potions. There are a few ways in which mixed attacking comes into play over just using its better SpA. Power Gem is its best special Rock STAB, but it's only 70 base power. Stone Edge's 100 BP means it'll hit most targets harder:

0 SpA Probopass Power Gem vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Spinda: 91-108 (34.8 - 41.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

0 Atk Probopass Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Spinda: 102-120 (39 - 45.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Stone Edge's better base power makes its damage pretty comparable to STAB Flash Cannon, since Flash Cannon only has 80 BP:

0 SpA Probopass Flash Cannon vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Spinda: 103-123 (39.4 - 47.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Probopass also has a pretty decent coverage pool with Earthquake, Thunder(bolt) and the elemental punches. Sadly, weak damage output limits non-stab attacks for Probopass quite a bit, and a lot of this coverage's victims are not great for Probopass anyways. Earthquake is definitely the best of the bunch here, since Rock + Ground is a great combination that hits anything but Bronzor and Bronzong for neutral damage or better. Fire Punch snipes Bronzor, but this is a weak move and Lucian's Bronzong can take down Probopass with Earthquake. Probopass also doesn't have the easiest time taking down Gyarados (or really any Water type) with Thunderbolt, but the extra power of Thunder can help it out a bit. Beating Garchomp with Ice Punch is also not a real situation. The rare Altaria is cooked by it, but also by Rock STAB. So the elemental punches are a bit wasted on it, but Earthquake can be a decent option if you're willing to invest that TM into a Pokémon with base 55 Atk.

The final physical attack worth considering on Probopass is Explosion. This TM is a massive pain in the ass to get, but is also a pretty sweet delete button that Probopass can click if all else fails. Outside of these attacks, Probopass mostly wants to be using utility moves.

Overall, Probopass's offenses generally aren't great, but keeping an open mind about using that lesser Atk stat can help you push its damage output a bit further.

What do you think of mixed Probopass? Is it worth exploring? Are there any applications for going mixed I didn't mention? Leave a comment below with your thoughts.

Sample Set: Probopass @ Soft Sand • Stone Edge, Flash Cannon, Earthquake, Explosion

Renegade Platinum Roark

I’ll keep you all updated if anyone is interested in updates at certain checkpoints in the game (gym leaders, galactic stages, etc…).

I’m doing my first run of renegade platinum at the moment, and my first run of any pokemon game since I was maybe 13 (27 now).

I’d played it multiple times as a kid and thought I had it figured out and wanted a challenge. Plus, I love that I get access to different pokemon, items and move sets, and all the game changes intrigued me.
So I thought, let’s give it a go…

5 HOURS into my playthrough, my six are:
Wooper (14), Riolu (15), Monferno (15), HootHoot (11), Ralts (11) and Elekid (14).

This bloke is smoking me! Having bulldoze at such a low level on all his ‘mons.
Cranidos’ ridiculous attack stat and zen headbutt are killing me. Wooper can comfortably kill things with mud shot, water pulse and even double kick, but his speed is LOW. So he has to cop a hit before he can do anything, regardless of who he’s up against. His defence is high and attack is good.
Monferno has mach punch but gets one hit by cranidos. Riolu is pretty much the same: good attack moves but semi-frail, even with a +def, -spd nature. Doesn’t outspeed cranidos.
Elekid is actually not too bad with low kick, but gets slapped by rock moves and bulldoze.

HootHoot and Ralts… don’t even start me 😂.
I’m on attempt 4 at the gym leader atm and have decided to train everyone up to lvl16. Hopefully that’s enough to scrape over the line…
My team is NOT currently set up for a rock gym…

Any advice?

Just finished the rematch of Cynthia with a clean sweep by Flygon courtesy of setup via Scizor and Kabutops. I know I have a lot of type overlap, but I just wanted to play with my fav mons. It was truly a team effort. Kabuptops got the sweep of Lucian with Leech Seed (after some set up via Scizor and co). Milotic, Masquerain, and Aero tag teamed Flint and Bertha. I tried to get cute with some weather and recovery set up against Bertha... which failed miserably. Aero and Scizor took care of Aaron's bugs. These were my moves and items for Cynthia, but they varied a lot for each E4 member (reusable tms). This was my first time playing renegade platinum. I loved it. Gonna start another run ASAP.

Teambuilding New Team

I just restarted my save after about 80 hours of playtime. I made through victory road, but my team didn't make the game feel very fulfilling. I started a new save, this time using Turtwig as my starter, and I definitely want an eeveelution. I'm wondering if any of the eeveelutions are good enough to take into the Battle frontier, as it will definitely be the core of my teams' strategy. Thanks, and I'll probably be asking a lot of other questions about who I should add later on.

Question Pokémon Platinum freezes every time I open Box 8 or Box 10 in the PC — any way to fix this with PKHeX?

Hey everyone,

For context, I'm on an official cartridge, use Checkpoint, and can import save files into PKHeX.

I’m having a weird issue with my Pokémon Platinum save. Every time I go into the PC and try to enter **Box 8** through **Box 10**, the game freezes completely. The other boxes work fine. Box 8 has no Pokémon stored in it, while 9 & 10 do.

I can open the save in PKHeX without problems and see the Pokémon in those boxes, so the data isn’t totally gone. I’m just not sure how to fix the freeze.

Has anyone run into this before on Platinum (or other Gen 4 games)? Is this usually caused by a bad Pokémon in the box, corrupted box data, or something else?

Any advice on how to safely clean or fix those boxes in PKHeX without losing everything would be really appreciated. I already have a save backup.

Thanks in advance!

First of all, thank you to the people suggesting pokemon for the challenge! I really appreciate it.

The team was

Bronzong: 255 HP, 255 SP.DEF

heatproof

Sitrus berry

Iron head

Earthquake

Explosion

Light screen

Azelf: 255 Sp.A, 255 Speed

Choice specs

Flamethrower

T-bolt

Psychic

Shadow ball

Mawhile: 255 def, 255 HP

Leftovers

Intimidate

Iron head

Iron defense

Baton pass

Substitute

This team is a bit different from what people suggested and i myself tweaked it to make ts possible on myself.

The team itself was really good and i enjoyed my time with using it. Surprisingly all 3 members had really good synergy with eachother and was way better in practice than it looks.

Azelf was my sweeper/heavy damage dealer and oh BOY did it do damage! It OKHOs around 70-80% of the frontier sets with psychic and i rarely need to use anything else. Its main drawback is how frail it is. It DOES NOT like to take hits. Maybe because of the shit defense and HP IVs, but i digress. It was a monster, but with any choice locking set you can lock yourself into a bad move, especially when you have to cluch a 2v1 and the last pokemon is an umbreon. Leviatate has phenomenal synergy with bronzong and mawhile.

Mawhile was an absolute physical wall and 1v1s most physical sets. Its also a great pivot to bait EQ so you can swap back to Azelf and kill. Passing a +6 defense and a substitute was always nice on any of my teammates, but it was almost useless against special attackers and mostly fodder. Still a surprisingly good mon that worked WAY better than i expected.

Bronzong was a strong special wall and an MVP in both Palmer fights. It went KABOOM against his milotic. I wanted heatproof because of how weak my team was to fire and the ground immunity was already covered by Azelf. Really clutch and consistent team membernand when in doubt, just explode. If i didnt know what set i was dealing with, i would just switch to bronzong.

It went through a lot of change in moves. First i was suggested screens, explosion and another support move, but decided to give it gyro ball. Then i lost my save, had to replay platinum multiple times due to bad eggs and just hacked a 31 IV bronzong, so gyro ball was no longer an option. Then i added earthquake because i had nothing for Palmer2's Heatran and added iron head instead of reflect for his Cresselia.

Overall an 8/10 team! 90% of my losses came because of crits or EVA##ON strats and the rest either to misplays or other bad luck. Didnt struggle much against OKHO sets. I maybe lost twice due to OKHO sets.

This will be the part i ask for reccomendations for which pokemon to use next, but i will be building Torterra, Empoleon and Infernape for my next tower run.

These are all I need and I can do breeding to take care of the evolutions! And yes, I foolishly no longer have a riolu/lucario and I really don’t want to reset save for another lol.

Teambuilding Rate my team

This is my team, i dont have my 3ds with me for a better picture but i wante you guys to give me tips and opnions about theses guys: First of all, my starter was a Chimchar! I'm currently training him to learn Flamethrower, so I'm not planning to evolve him just yet. After that, I brought a Misdreavus from my Pokémon Pearl save and have been training her so she can eventually evolve into Mismagius. I also had a Leafeon on my team that i traded from hgss as an egg, but I ended up replacing it with my cousin's Turtwig, which I'm now raising into a Torterra. I caught this Gligar after beating Gardenia, and most recently, I revived a Cranidos from its fossil!

Now we're getting ready to face Fantina, and honestly, my team is a little underleveled compared to what would normally be considered acceptable for this battle. 😅 But we're training hard and making good progress! I'm really excited to see how this team develops, and I'd love to hear your thoughts, opinions, and suggestions about these guys!

P.s: i know it looks a little likes ash team but i really love theses guys

Battle Frontier Battle Tower Help

Ever since the announcement of Pokemon Bank shutting down, I’ve been trying to get my starter Infernape from July 2011 all the ribbons and then start transferring him up through each generation. I’m struggling with getting the second singles battle tower ribbon. I consistently lose in the first set of battles after beating Palmer (battles 22-28) and my best record is 34. I’ve tried switching up the team a bit with a Tyranitar because I read that it’s a good option, but it seems almost useless in battle so far. Does anyone have any tips for me? It’s starting to get extremely annoying and I’m on the verge of giving up because this simply isn’t fun for me anymore. Here is my team, in order:

Empoleon
Nature: Hardy
Ability: Torrent
Item: Lum berry
EV’s: 252 Speed / 252 Sp Attack / 4 HP
Moves: surf, flash cannon, grass knot, ice beam

Garchomp
Nature: Bashful
Ability: Sand veil
Item: Yache berry
Not EV trained (level 100 and from 2009, but I want to use him)
Moves: stone edge, earthquake, crunch, dragon claw

Infernape
Nature: Relaxed
Ability: Blaze
Item: Expert belt
EV’s: 252 Speed / 252 Attack / 4 HP
Moves: thunder punch, earthquake, flare blitz, close combat

And this is the Tyranitar that I’ve tried using in place of Infernape since I’d only need him on the last round for the ribbon:
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Sand stream
Item: Chople berry
EV’s: 252 Speed / 252 Attack / 4 HP
Moves: Aerial ace, earthquake, crunch, stone edge

Any help would be appreciated! I’m really struggling with getting to the 49 wins.

Hall of Fame Close Pokemon Only Challenge Run Update: E4 (The End)

Well this is the end. Took a little while to get here. I went all out and made sure I found decent nature/IVs for every single Pokemon you can catch on the front door of the Pokemon League. Most of the league was a breeze, with Toxic Spikes as a backup 2 out of the 4 simply lost to a team specialized in STAB water moves. Octillery's Flamethrower made short work of the bugs and earthquake cleaned up Drapion. Lucian was the first real challenge with electric coverage moves but was able to get through with poison and well timed finishing attacks. Cynthia as always was a problem. But, I finally figured out that a shell bell on Gyarados would allow me to set up a few Dragon Dances and sweep handily.

Overall this was a pretty fun challenge. As intended, I used Pokemon I normally wouldn't especially for certain gyms and learned their strengths. I don't think this is necessarily a challenge one would want to repeat on the same game as the restrictions essentially leave you with the same teams every time. The most annoying part was finding the perfect team for the E4 and leveling them, that was about the only part I started to lose motivation to keep playing. Feel free to try it out yourself!

Renegade Platinum Espeon and Umbreon in Renegade Platinum

Hello!

I had a question about the Renegade Platinum ROM hack for my Nuzlocke run:

The wiki states that Espeon and Umbreon have a special ability (Magic Bounce and Inner Focus). However, when I have an Eevee with Adaptability, it retains the Synchronise ability when I evolve it.

Should I give up hope of getting an Espeon with Magic Bounce?
