Compilation for brands with (truly) plastic-free products
To discuss this thread, please comment here: /r/PlasticFreeLiving/comments/1sm4nj3/compilation_for_brands_with_truly_plasticfree/ogcgltl
As a follow-up from the previous mod post, this is to compile everybody's knowledge on brands that only (or mostly) sell products that are truly plastic-free, due to excessive number of 1) product recommendations that still contain plastic and 2) comments that criticise them. For example, even if a shirt says it's 100% cotton, its ink/dyes are almost always plastic, which means every time you put it on and take them off, you breathe-in plastic. Plus, the tags are plastic. Ultimately, the nano/micro-plastics spread to all over other clothes while in the washer + dryer, making you inhale more, and this is just one scenario.
Of course, there are other examples, where they sell micro-plastic-free salts, but the packaging is plastic, or the packaging is paper, but the ink is plastic, etc.
However, this doesn't mean that everybody has the same threshold/tolerances for plastics. The most common conversation theme for such tolerance in this subreddit seems to be about socks, since they need to be a bit stretchy/fitting, and organic socks don't last very long (a month to a few).
So, in order to contribute to this compilation to accommodate different levels of tolerances, there are two rules.
The two rules
The first rule is transparency; you must show the effort to confirm to determine the extent it is plastic-free. Did you contact the business to confirm that the dyes are organic, and are you able quote them (so they can be held liable)? Are you a research organisation and ensured that micro-plastic count is minimal? Of course, there are other methods, but these two are some of the common ways to confirm.
The second rule is the region (e.g. Australian company) unless if they serve multiple regions (local shops would be great!).
(disclaimer: I just wanted to mention that some of you might notice most of my recommendations, except maybe a few, overlap with plasticfreeawesome.com's flower standard. It's a great site and I would recommend, but I'm not affiliated)

Getting started with transitioning to plastic free and overwhelmed! (Uk based)
Hi! Silent reader thus far but really want to make forward steps to become plastic free for health and fertility!
Plan is so far:
Kitchen
- Plastic free kettle (Cosori one on Amazon?) and Tupperware asap
- Ask for stainless steel utensils and pans for Christmas (any recommendations?)
- Change to SEEP cloths and scrubbers in the kitchen
- Also aware cleaning products need to be changed but that’s also a minefield!
Personal
- Aware that plastic free underwear is a must but overwhelmed with choices and cost!
- Ask for SURI toothbrush for Christmas
- Going to do a wardrobe clear out anyways but prioritise getting rid of polyester
- I also use makeup and skincare and I’m aware those may need to be changed but that feels to overwhelming to start with
Sorry I’m new to this and don’t really know where to start! I know it’s a long process of replacing things but any guidance would be really appreciated

Non-Toxic travel mugs for tea / coffee
Is the brand "Nova Ceramics" a good, non-toxic brand for a clean travel mug?

Industry executives knew for decades that microplastics were infiltrating the human body
We're only beginning to grasp the dangers of microplastics found in our blood, heart tissue, and brains.
Newly discovered internal memos reveal that Big Oil and the plastics industry have "been aware of and concerned about the potential for microplastic contamination in the human body" for decades.
As reported by Susanne Rust for the u/latimes, "Internal memos among company scientists and executives … show that industry scientists have long been aware of — and concerned about — the way microplastic particles migrate beyond the gut in animals and humans, depositing in important organs. And the potential for that knowledge to affect the plastic food packaging industry."
Fossil fuel and other petrochemical companies must be held accountable for their deception and the significant damage it has caused.

Question Waaching machine microplastic filters
Hello everybody!
I am trying to figure out which filter to use and install on my washing machine. I would prefer something that has a filter that can be cleaned, not bought constantly. I read that some companies work with this concept, but I am not sure about any of them. It would be great if they are more or less universal for various washing machine brands as I'm thinking about gifting them as christmas presents so my close ones this year (sort of forcibly making them be more eco friendly hahaha, so it's important that it isn't too much of a hassle to handle).
I tried reading about some of them, but the reviews weren't so positive and it discouraged me a bit.
I am in Europe, Italy, if it makes a difference for setting them up.
Please let me know if you are using these and if you have a recommendation :)
Bonus points if it's budget friendly 🫣🙏

Vaporizer
When I was a kid in the 70's my parents had a warm mist vaporizer/humidifier with a glass bowl. As a mom I always used a cheap plastic one but now that doesn't seem like a good idea. Does anyone know of a brand that makes a glass bowl vaporizer?

Discussion Natural fiber clothing
Hi everyone! I am trying to comprise a list of brands to look as when trying to find clothing made out of natural materials. The brands i have so far are mostly nordic based.
- Dilling
- Devold
- Icebreaker
- Ollars Ulla
- Nygårdsanna
- Some of the items at Arket and COS.
Do you have other brands you would recomend? And why do you like them?

Where can I buy cling wrap that isn’t made of plastic?
I’m trying to get conventional plastic out of my kitchen, and cling wrap is the one thing I keep getting stuck on.
Regular cling film is PE or PVC, and I’d like to avoid wrapping my food in that. I’ve used beeswax wraps, and they’re great for bread and cheese, but they don’t work for everything. They don’t seal well on bowls with liquid, they can’t go anywhere near heat, and you can’t really use them for raw meat.
So I’m looking for an actual roll of cling wrap that behaves like the normal stuff but isn’t fossil-based plastic. A PLA-based film would be perfect, since it’s plant-derived and compostable (at least industrially). But I’m open to anything: cellulose film, bio-based films, whatever actually exists and works.
A few things I’d love to know if you have experience:
Brand names and where you bought it (online shops with EU shipping are a bonus, but any country is helpful) Does it actually cling, or does it just sort of sit on top of the bowl? Is it microwave safe or fridge/freezer only? Roughly what did it cost compared to normal cling film?
And if the honest answer is “this doesn’t really exist yet, use lids and glass containers,” I’d rather hear that than keep searching for something that isn’t there.
Thanks in advance!

Mattress recommendations
New to this group but not non-tox living. It’s time to get rid of my mattress and I’m looking for something that isn’t full of plastic, metal, and toxic foam.
Unfortunately my budget is about as low as low gets and I’ll have to keep the Avocado brand mattress I want in my wishlist for now.

Has anyone tried the Meshbottle plastic-free water bottle?
I heard about them maybe eight years ago, and recently ran across them again today. Anyone have any experience with them? They seem really promising.

Best underwear for men and women
Wanting to slowly throw out all my toxic plant household objects and even throw out all of mine and my husbands underwear and exchange for plastic free what are some good recommendations?

Milk carton or glass bottle
Which is more sustainable/eco friendly? Are the cartons actually recyclable? I know with the glass bottles I can return them to the store for a credit back.

Buying my first home, what am I missing?
I am moving out looking to buy my first home! I've done my best living with my parents to shift to plastic free but some things are harder to convince them on (like tide pods).
Now that I'll be moving out and having my own place, what are some plastic free things I should look for to buy new for myself that I wouldn't have thought of before?
Please be as basic or complex as you see fit! I welcome every suggestion

Question Non plastic retainer possibly?
Ive been interested in the new brand, Moses that apparently makes non-plastic retainers. I need one ASAP because I grind my teeth a lot.
Here's the link to their website
BUT I can find almost no 3rd party reviews. Not even anything on reddit! Anyone know if they're legit, or has tried them? I'm nervous to get something that no one has actually tried before. Thanks in advanced!

Question Replacement for 32oz deli containers?
Hi All! I've been meal prepping using re-used 32oz deli containers, and I love the size and that they fit vertically in the fridge - but I know that I shouldn't be using them long-term as they're probably leeching microplastics...wondering if anyone recommend anything of similar size and shape that's made of glass?

Anyone else in USA ever purchase a EX8 bottle?
Just as the title says: anyone here purchase a EX8 shaker bottle? I really like the concept but am a little hesitant as checkout outside of their country needs your SSN to check out for import/tax purposes.

Drinking Water Solution
I've been drinking out of a water cooler for a very long time. We have 2 18.9L jugs and fill them with RO water from a local filling location. I've always had a weird feeling about my water sitting in the plastic jug for a week at a time. I'm not the poster-child for plastic/toxic free living but I do try my best. I believe every little bit helps or at least makes you feel better. I would assume that's where most of us sit.
I'm looking to see if anyone has had this dilemma before and maybe has a solution? I've seen glass jugs but I doubt they're going to fit on the cooler. Would a solution be to get the glass jugs and pour them into a glass/metal dispenser?

Discussion Reducing plastic as first time mum
(UK based) I’m due to have my first baby in Feb, the past year or so I’ve been actively trying to make changes and reduce plastic exposure for me and my husband.
I’m now entering the whole new world of baby prepping and there’s just plastic everywhere as you might expect. Bottles, sterilisers, breast milk storage bags, breast pumps etc etc.
Do people have any advice on ways to practically reduce exposure for babies that also aren’t expensive and make life with a new born loads harder?

PURIFIED sneakers shoes biodegradable
In September I ordered PURIFIED shoes. One can no longer buy any shoes on the PURIFIED website (purified.eco). Does anyone want to buy these shoes from me? Otherwise, I will send them back. These shoes are too big for me. Never worn outside, original packaging, water-repellent, 35 EUR per pair plus shipping.
"Hevea - White / White" EU 44, UK men 10, US men 11
"Abaca (Low) - Ecru / White" EU 44, UK men 10, US men 11
"Abaca (High) - Ecru / Gum" EU 44, UK men 10, US men 11
The pair I will keep was a little stiff at first, it got better over time.

"worn by Prince William to the 2024 Earth shot awards in Cape Town."
"Shoes were tested under ISO 20020:2015 to measure their level of toxicity. Shoes were exposed to soil conditions for 90 days, the soil was then inspected for toxic chemicals and found to have exceptionally low levels.
Tomato and Barley Plants were then introduced to this soil to assess how they grew (OECD 208 - plant response). When planted in this soil, it was discovered that under certain conditions the plants grew better than compared to regular compost."

Question Suggestions on shelf liners
Hi,
I have recently started to eliminate plastic from daily use. I need some suggestions on using shelf liners, what to use in place of the usual plastic.
Thanks.
