Rant Tipping culture in Canada
Tipping culture is out of control. Why am I expected to tip for a service I’ve already paid for? Doctors, nurses, and teachers don’t get tipped for doing their jobs, so why is tipping expected in so many other industries?
If you’re charging me an already expensive fee for your service, why am I being asked to pay even more on top of it? Set your prices accordingly. Include the cost in the actual price instead of making customers feel obligated to tip.
And the worst part is the awkwardness when you choose not to tip. Those few seconds before you walk out of the establishment can feel so uncomfortable because there’s an expectation that you’re supposed to leave something extra. Why should paying for a service in full come with the added pressure of feeling guilty for not paying even more?
The whole point of a tip is that it’s optional. But tipping culture has reached a point where customers are made to feel like they’ve done something wrong by simply paying the price they were actually charged. I’m so over it. I don't tip nobody outside of waiters and waitresses.
