Thanks for your submission u/Qarnaqduck, but it has been removed for the following reason:

Disallowed question area: Joke questions or trolling.

This sub is meant for genuine questions...and it looks like yours isn't. Maybe it's a joke, maybe you're trying to bait people into reacting, or maybe we just can't figure out what you're trying to say (sorry). Either way, we've removed your post.

  • Trying to get a laugh out of people? While jokes, memes and song lyrics are all amusing, they're not what we're looking for here. Try r/ShittyAskReddit.

  • Taking the sub name as a challenge and trying to post a stupid question isn't amusing, and it's also not the point of the sub (read the sidebar!). You're looking for r/StupidQuestions.

  • Asking a question to show off a clever observation? Try r/ShowerThoughts (but phrase it as an observation, not a question).

  • Testing a riddle? When you already know the answer, it's not a genuine question - but the users of r/Riddles will love it.

  • Do you keep making new accounts to ask the same questions over and over again? That not only violates rule 2, but it's also not healthy. Try talking to a therapist about these thoughts, and try asking questions on different topics.

  • Trying to bait people into angry or shocked reactions? Try r/RandomShit or r/ShittyAskReddit ...or just go do something else.

Surely there's a better word than "popular" for this particular question

Recognizable?

Perhaps you have are not familiar with the definition of "popular." It is not a synonym for infamous or even recognizable or well-known.

Hitler is not popular, he's simply infamous

Plenty of people like Hitler

More every day. As we can see in France when the police protect fascist groups when they beat the shit out of (usually non-white) protesters.

They bring weapons like iron bars and protesters aren't even allowed to bring masks to protect themselves from the gaz spam that the cops love so much.

They're making nazi salute sing racist shit while the cop put the people that was beaten on the ground by them in custody

Who is more famous than Michael Jackson?

1

u/Qarnaqduck 2d ago

Jesus Christ

Yeah, but there are so many different images of him. We don’t truly know who he is, but we definitely know who Michael Jackson is.

So that means the Beatles for sure

As famous as Michael Jackson was, he's still not on the same level as either Hitler or Einstein who are both part of virtually every secondary school curriculum in the world.

True, if you're talking about formal education. But fame isn't measured just by who is in a high school textbook. Millions of people around the world don't have access to secondary education, yet they still know Michael Jackson's music, face, and dance moves through pure global mass media. Pop culture reaches places history classes never touch.

I believe MJ moonwalked, but I don't believe JC walked on water.

This makes me think of Princess Diana too.

Popular is very much not the best word for this...

They are both in the Top 10 of the most recognized dead people. I think it's a toss up.

Infamy and popularity are a bit different.

Adolf Hitler is more widely recognized by name and global public awareness than Albert Einstein. I'll leave it at that.

2

u/rs1971 2d ago

In terms of 'recognizability' it's pretty much a wash. They are both as famous (or infamous in the first case) as it's possible to be. Virtually one hundred percent of the world population with education level past primary school would recognize both of them by name and photo.

Seems I'm gonna be the first with this answer, please don't shoot the messenger. I realize OP probably conflates "popular" with "recognizable" but in fact,  Adolf Hitler maintains a complicated and largely misunderstood or detached popularity in parts of India  and the Arab world , driven by anti-colonial sentiment and a lack of direct historical exposure to the Holocaust (i.e. ignorance). Someone mentioned the european neonazi hitlerlovers, and even if they, along with their american brethren, add marginally to the total, they are thankfully a small minority (and prob. a minority even among far right nut jobs). Anyway, I think globally, Hitler is both the more recognizable and the more popular. Because people are f-ing stupid.
