Job Market
Hi everyone! as we all understand the jobs market is tough right now. Throwing out hundreds of resumes, and hearing back nothing. long are the days of going into a business, asking to speak to the manager and putting on the biggest smile to get a position.
If your job is hiring, please comment, if you see a post online or posted on a sign in the window. Post it.
I think we should have a thread going regarding who is hiring in this city.
Thanks for your time and input.

Veterinarian recommendations
Newish to Nanaimo, after a long time away. Looking for a recommendation for my English bulldog.
Doesn’t need to be the cheapest vet, obviously I remember living here in the past some where a lot more expensive than others, particularly like the emergency vets.
I guess I’m looking for a recommendation for a vet that’s actually interested in fixing the issue on the first visit and not under prescribing hoping to continue milking me for repeat visits like my last vet experience felt like.
Thanks

"REMIGRATION" SHOWED UP ON THE LEGISLATURE STEPS. IT DIDN'T START THERE.
The morning after the provincial election, masked men in black stood on the steps of the BC Legislature with a banner reading "Remigration saves our nation." The banner named them as the Loyalist Pioneers, a group extremism researchers track as part of the white nationalist "Active Club" movement, the same movement as the Second Sons group behind last month's masked demonstration in Kamloops. (The Tyee, Oct 26.)
"Remigration" is the far-right term for mass deportation of immigrants and their descendants, citizens included.
Premier-designate Lorne Doerkson condemned it at his first press conference, saying his government will use every part of the law it can against this kind of hate. He condemned Kamloops the day it happened too. That's the right call, and credit is credit.
But the word didn't arrive in Victoria on Sunday morning. It's been spreading, including here.
Malcolm Cooke ran for Nanaimo council this month on the REAL slate. On X, as @REALNanaimoMalC, he wrote:
✅ May 17, 2026: In a thread quoting a post about remigration and the federal Conservatives, he wrote: "We're working on providing a tangible, ready-to-go policy structure that can be implemented in local communities across BC this October."
✅ Nov 19, 2025: In a post blaming "foreign criminal networks" for illegal cannabis, cigarettes and firearms, he closed with "Remigration and deportation."
✅ Dec 4, 2025: "John Rustad would be premier of BC if he fought for Remigration as hard as he's fighting to stay on as captain of a sinking ship. Sad!"
✅ Dec 8, 2025: "…foreign people will side with their foreign counterparts over their host country. Assimilation is a myth. Remigration is the answer."
✅ Jan 13, 2026: "CBSA is too compromised at this point. Remigration officers will need to get stood up."
✅ Jan 14, 2026: "Remigration is essential to national security."
✅ Jan 17, 2026: "Parliamentary politics and ethnic voting blocks will stop any tangible Remigration effort in Can/EU."
✅ Aug 21, 2025: Replying to a call for "a Remigration Department," he said CBSA is compromised and a "new private security company" is needed "to carry out deportations and arrests."
✅ On Instagram, earlier this year: "We don't have to live like this #Remigration."
That's how this moves. It starts as a hashtag, becomes "policy" talk, then a campaign, then a banner on the legislature steps. Each step makes the next feel more normal.
Condemning it once isn't enough. When someone, candidate or not, talks like this, ask them directly: What do you mean by remigration? Who gets deported? Citizens too? People who say it out loud should have to explain it out loud.
And talk to the young people in your life. These groups recruit through gyms, group chats and memes, and they target teenage boys who feel left out. A kid who's already heard an adult explain what "remigration" actually means is much harder to recruit than one hearing it first from a guy in a mask.
P.S. We did say we’d be back to satire after the elections. Turns out we’re more of a hybrid now: part politics, part missing pants.

Would it be weird to give out books on Halloween?
I have a bunch of used spooky books for kids of all ages (lots of good stuff like Goosebumps) and I'm wondering if it would be received weirdly from parents if I give them out, optionally of course. I would just put a bowl of them outside that kids could grab from if they wanted. As well as having candy available at the door- I'm not trying to get egged lol. Thoughts?

Rest in peace Donna Macleod
We hope your up there watching us. Your loss will be felt in the community for a long time. We hope your in a better place now, without pain or suffering. You passed way too soon for us all, we all knew your troubles and now they cannot bother no more. You were an amazing person, that still had amazing potential and dedication. I and everyone will treasure the memories together, no matter how much time was spent. Please rest in peace.

Hey everyone we are back for our 6th annual haunted house! Voted scariest haunted house by everyone I know!
We are back again to scare the crap out of you and your kids! Come one come all! We dont discriminate on age if you want to give your kids nightmares go ahead they are your kids and I dont have to listen to them cry and have them crawl into my bed at 2am.
We are donating to cinnibar valley elementary again because apparently playgrounds cost more than a brand new range rover. Probably wouldn't be the case if we could just build them out of wood like the good old days but then some kid might get a splinter and sue the school then our taxes would go up.
Its on Cory pl. in Cinnibar for two nights only the 30th and 31st from 630 till we get through everyone who makes the trip to check it out. We accept cash and we have tap this year! I know times are tough so dont feel pressured to give us anything just come by and check it out.

nanaimo bars without coconut
hello, all! i'm visiting for a conference this week and would like to bring a nanaimo bar home to my partner. the only problem: he doesn't like coconut. any recommendations of places that serve nanaimo bars sans coconut? i understand this is non-traditional and will be getting a normal one to try for myself but was hoping i could still find one he'd enjoy trying. any local tips would be super appreciated! 😁
side question: i've heard nanaimo bars freeze alright. i'll be driving home quite a ways and figure that'd be the best way to keep it cold. will this mess up the taste and texture?

Province Changes Government, Nanaimo Changes Nothing
NANAIMO — Residents woke Sunday to learn that British Columbia had elected a Conservative majority overnight. Most found out on Facebook, because nobody has cable anymore.
Nanaimo re-elected both of its NDP MLAs anyway. Sheila Malcolmson and George Anderson will return to Victoria, where they will sit across from the government and nod.
Supporters of last week's slate are handling the news two ways at once. Half are still explaining that local elections are rigged, while the other half celebrate a provincial election they liked very much. In the City of Nanaimo Oversight group, one member managed both in a single post: he welcomed the provincial result, then called for Nanaimo's newly re-elected representatives to resign over their "stolen power." Results may vary by riding.
Teachers and health-care workers have been assured nothing will change, and are now reading their collective agreements for fun.
Wildfire crews are reading up on Ontario, where the 2019 budget cut the emergency forest firefighting budget by 67 per cent. The summers there have been smoky since. The new premier celebrated his win with sparks shooting from small cannons, which in BC counts as a policy position.
Pride organizers have already booked next summer's venue, a little earlier than usual. They've also ordered extra flags, on the advice of friends in Alberta.
First Nations leaders said they look forward to working with the new government, whose stated top priority is them. They have cleared their calendars for the court dates.
Ladysmith-Oceanside has not decided yet. Kris McNichol leads Stephanie Higginson by around 88 votes, and a recount is expected. Riding residents have been asked to remain calm and stop refreshing.
Officials say the city is coping well and has returned to its normal routine of complaining about the traffic on the parkway.
