ELECTION 2026 Simeon Brown refuses to hand over Health NZ privatisation costs and fearmongers, overlooking it was Labour that ran 9 consecutive budget surpluses and started Kiwisaver and Super

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Brown didn't deny reports nearly 50% of the health budget, and 80% of all new health funding is going to corporate / private health sector

Brown also demands Labour provide coalition partner details, while refusing to do the same.

And runs the debt bogeyman line that works on right wing voters.

Fun facts:

  • It was Helen Clark's Labour that ran 9 consecutive surpluses, paid down debt & started Super & KiwiSaver before Key left $60b debt. NZ Super is now one of the leading sovereign funds in the world with returns comparable to Norway
  • Ardern ran surplus until Covid-19 when all governments pivoted to saving lives and preserving the economy and as global inflation hit 10%.
  • The debt fearmongering is also completely dishonest:
  • Germany, Singapore, Belgium all run high debt but corporate media in NZ consistently panders to the fearmongering. NZ has one of the lowest debt to GDP ratios in the OECD and govt debt is far cheaper than private debt.

Brown also backs Health NZ hiding health privatisation numbers as it emerged 50% of all health budget spend and 80% of all new spend was sent to corporate and private healthcare providers (which per above, he does not deny)

PS NIcola Willis is goneburger

ELECTION 2026 'Public deserve to know': Nelson Hospital urologist speaks out

"Meffan's now the only doctor in the top of the south who can perform the large, complex surgeries for many kidney, bladder and prostate cancers.

He's been doing surgery during his leave time to ensure patients' cancers don't become terminal....

"I just think at the end of the day, what's a day or two of my holiday and someone's chance [of surviving]"....

He said in some cases patients are waiting up to a year in quite difficult circumstances....

"I really fear for the future of urology services in the South Island. We know that the services down in Southland have collapsed. We know that Nelson is on the verge of collapsing," Mulholland said."

ELECTION 2026 Has New Zealand been shafted enough under the current government?

Look, unless you are a millionaire or better, the current government has been fucking us for three years.

The first thing that they did in power? Give 2.35 BILLION dollars to landlords, with the promise that rental prices would lower.

Then, they had the audacity to claim they had no money in their coffers due to the previous government. Seriously, what the actual fuck?

2.35 Billion is so much more than most people realise and there was literally no justification for this output of taxpayers money. Unless you consider the

fact that over 60% of the current people in power in the Beehive are multiple homeowners, which makes them, wait for it; LANDLORDS!

There are so many shitty things that these people have inflicted upon us since then: Removing pay equity claims for women, axing jobs in services like Healthcare, gave money to tobacco companies, etc.

The list goes on and I won't bore you with details you already know.

I would like to give a special mention to the rapist apology party, ACT. Could they be any more racist and devisive? Can Seymour be even more of a bigger arsehole/paedophile than people already think he is?

My question is, do you think we've been fucked enough or are we asking for more?

Personally, I've run out of lube and would like to try other people's policies for three years. Maybe parties who care about the people who are voting? Maybe someone else who actually gives a shit about the people who are at their lowest?

Because they are us, we are all in this together, but we need the equity of a true Waka. One that carries us all forward together.

ELECTION 2026 Public service chiefs ordered to plan 9000 job cuts during election campaign

Thumbnail thepress.co.nz
14 Upvotes

"Public service chiefs were ordered to draw up plans for sweeping spending cuts during the election campaign, with proposals to help axe nearly 9000 jobs due as coalition talks are expected to be under way.

The Public Service Commission has written to all government department bosses asking them to model a 15% reduction in staff numbers, with proposals due in mid-November.

The request follows a Cabinet-approved target to reduce the core public service to 55,000 full-time equivalent (FTE) positions by June 2029. The cuts would begin in June next year.

The workforce stood at 63,912 FTEs at the end of June, meaning the target would require a reduction of 8912 positions - about 14% of the current workforce. However, official advice suggests the true cuts could top 11,000.

Wellington would be particularly hard-hit. The capital accounts for 41.2% of the workforce, according to the PSC’s latest regional data. If cuts were spread proportionally across the country, that would put about 3700 jobs in Wellington at risk....

Labour leader Chris Hipkins accused National of preparing further cuts to public services without telling voters which jobs or services would be affected.

β€œThis shows the National Party is ready to hit go on even more cuts to our public services, all while hiding what this means for New Zealanders,” he said.

He said previous cuts had contributed to stretched services and longer waits, and warned further reductions could affect the people supporting hospitals, border security, schools and communities. β€œThese aren’t just numbers on a spreadsheet.”

The target was announced by Goldsmith and Finance Minister Nicola Willis as part of May’s Budget.

The Government claims by using artificial intelligence and digital technology that the reduction would help deliver $2.4 billion in savings over four years. The target excludes the large workforces of Health New Zealand, the police and the Defence Force."

ELECTION 2026 Can we get big list of the National coalition governments lies and nonsense from the past 3 years?

It's been a long 3 years of total lies and nonsense from the coalition government that it's hard to remember them all.

If there are any that you can think of, especially those that may have been forgotten or tried to been covered up, great of you could list them.

We can make a long list that is hopefully used for other things and spread awareness!

ELECTION 2026 Hipkins says that National's undemocratic change to enrollment "is one of the first things we'll reverse"

"It's absolutely anybody's game. And the TV1 poll, the Verian poll tends to skew slightly to the centre-right, it's all within the margin of error between Labour and National....

It came down to mobilisation and turn out. They turned out to vote. They got people off the couch. Every vote's going to count. Younger voters in particular who are often disengaged- your vote's going to be more important than ever.

Here's the thing about opinion polls. Opinion polls build in assumptions about voter turnout in terms of the way they do their sampling. If you want to absolutely confound the opinion pollsters, change the turnout. Because if you get a higher turnout amongst people who have traditionally been under-represented in polling sampling, you can totally change the outcome of an election." - Chris Hipkins

ELECTION 2026 Trickle down theory - again?

It seems to me that the general effect of most of the policies promoted by NACT are really just reruns of the trickle down theory.

The trickle down theory was a big thing about 30 or 40 years ago in NZ, promoting the idea that enriching big business and the wealthy would create better economic conditions, and good things (money) would trickle down to everyone else. Of course, it was thoroughly debunked because benefits to the wealthy just worsen inequality leading to serious social harms.

Many of the policies being promoted this year seem to be along the same lines. For example, less tax on kiwisaver accounts disproportionately benefits the wealthy as they have bigger salaries and larger kiwisaver accounts. But the reduced tax take affects everyone through reduced government services.

Reduced taxes (eg investment boost) of is greater benefit for businesses and people with higher taxable income, but the reduced tax take means reduced government services for everyone, which disproportionately impacts lower income people.

Reduced minimum wage rates and reduced worker protections benefits businesses at the cost of workers.

NACT says this is to benefit the economy with the implication that this is good for everyone, which sounds like the trickle down theory being restated.

So, are the NACT parties still using trickle down economics to justify their policies in 2026? And why aren't they called out for this when interviewed by journalists?

ELECTION 2026 Who becomes Finance Minister in a worse case National/ACT/NZ First Coalition?

Post image
27 Upvotes

If National polls so badly at the Election that it fails to bring in any list MPs, that would mean Nicola Willis, Chris Bishop, Paul Goldsmith and others are likely to be gone from Parliament.

So if, in this scenario, National were in a position to form a Government with ACT and New Zealand First, how do you see the governing arrangements stacking up.Β  Finance Minister for one thing, but also the Deputy Prime Minister role.

Simeon Brown is the highest ranked MP in a safe electorate seat after Christopher Luxon. Β If Luxon successfully manages to negotiate to keep the Finance role within his Caucus, then it is looking like Simeon Brown would be Finance Minister. This is a Minister who has brutally cut the public health service, funnelling more and more money into private healthcare providers.

Alternatively, it is possible that either ACT or New Zealand First manage to grasp the Finance portfolio, effectively transferring the responsibility for the Government’s budget to them.

In either of those scenarios, are we looking at three years of either David Seymour or Winston Peters as Finance Minister, with the other sitting as Deputy PM?Β  One of whom is planning to cut $20B from public spending, and the other who is planning to buy back the Bank of New Zealand.

So is the next Finance Minister in a possible National/Act/New Zealand First coalition following the election likely to be Simeon, David or Winston?Β

All three options sound absolutely terrifying!

ELECTION 2026 Useful Information - If you are on the 'dormant' roll, you can place a Special Vote

As seen on Facebook - not my original content, but well worth reading and sharing.

Voters. The deadline has passed for enrolment to vote in this election. However, I have been given important information by a friend working for the Electoral Commission. It goes like this:

If someone has been enrolled at any time in the past and, for whatever reason, have been taken off the General or Maori roll (eg, were not contactable at a previous address or somesuch), then they are placed on the Dormant Roll. They are NOT de-enrolled. Voting staff at the polling booth can access the Dormant Roll and, with a bit of extra info, can process them via the Special Vote process.

Also, no voting place will prohibit anyone from voting. If you think you are enrolled, you don't need a voting card or ID to vote: you can front up to the Voting Place with nothing more than your name and current address. Voting staff have a range of info at their disposal to match you to an electorate.

If you can't be located on any roll, you can insist that you be given a Special Vote. There's no guarantee that this will be counted BUT every effort will be made when counting Specials to locate voters who believe they are enrolled.

It would appear that the Electoral Commission is trying its best to navigate the terrible position they have been put in by this current government.

Please share this information as widely as possible.

Addendum from the vote.nz site:

What if I’m on the dormant roll?

If you’ve moved house since you enrolled to vote or last updated your enrolment details, and we have received returned mail from your previous address, you may be on the dormant roll.

If you’re on the dormant roll, you’re still eligible to vote – but you will need to make a special vote. If your change of address means you are now in a different electorate, only your party vote will count.

When you go to the voting place, our staff will look you up on the electronic electoral roll. They will be able to see if you are on the dormant roll and will give you voting papers.

Education Here is what's happening at NZ universities. I ask you: why bother?

Thumbnail stuff.co.nz

I'm so tired of the AI washing that is constantly happening in the news media. I feel that in NZ, Stuff has been the most egregious on this front with one of their writers being an unquestionably pro-AI weirdo Finn Hogan who seems to simply parrot Silicon Valley talking points.

Now they've moved to letting 22 year olds write something that reads almost as marketing copy for their workplace Allexive who are advertising themselves as "helping workplaces institutionalise AI".

I don't know about any of you or what your professional experience is - but when a marketing manager sets up a tech company staffed with undergrads... I'm closing the door on them like I do the Mormons. Sure, my life has issues, but nothing they're selling will fix it and I'll only end up with less time.

Given that I have yet to see a financially successful business outside of the shovel selling NVIDIA and chip manufacturers (who may have been channel stuffing to achieve their continuous growth)... They're basically selling snake oil.

If modern AI systems based on the LLM architecture are truly as powerful as they keep screaming from the rooftops, why do they need businesses to hire them? Surely that AI expertise would be better used to stand up their own competitive business in the same market?

I'm so fucking done with this hype cycle. Thankfully it looks like the bubble is already popping in China and the Anthropic S-1 document for their IPO is all kinds of bs.

Health Who owns the health system?

I know the articles about this have been shared, but thought it'd be valuable to post the report in its own post.

The "Who owns the health system" report from Public Futures Aotearoa is a depressing but well researched read into the huge amount of public health dollars going into the private sector, which in terms is increasingly corporate and private equity owned.

This is also an issue for Labour, whose policies of free GP visits and free maternity scans both send public health dollars primarily into private equity owned radiology and primary care services.

ELECTION 2026 Labour within reach of National - last poll's bump for National was an outlier, but Luxon/Peters/Seymour could govern without Opportunity & viability of left bloc hinges on Te Pati Maori electoral strategy. Left needs much greater turnout and votes

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Election result now tight but trends emerging.

The presence of Opportunity gives the left a check mate situation

Opportunity will try in good faith to form govt with whichever party has the highest number of electorate SEATS.

Right now that'd be National Party

If TPM overhang strategy plays out and TPM voters support their party's strategy, then OP may or may not help Labour/Greens form government.

That means Labour needs more party votes, and yet Opportunity is still the one splitting the lef's vote

What a shit show and an absolute delight for the Coalition - their strategyies pushed by Nick Mowbray, NZ First etc, is working . And I've noticed a flood of bots online that are visibly active for the election. Oh well, cest la vie, but still vote

And please inform yourself on what an effective vote is.

For eg in Auckland Central you want to vote Chloe Swarbirck

For Mount Roskill, Michael Woods

Wairarapa Kieran McAnulty etc
