Discussion a little disappointed in the band tbh

2.1k Upvotes

certainly not trying to bash, MCR have been my favorite band since like 2004/05 when i was in high school. their music has mattered so much to me, like so many of us, throughout the years. i never had the chance to see them before they broke up in 2013, so being able to go to the swarm tour and lltbp has meant so much. i’ve grown up with them, and i’ll always love what they’ve created and what they stand for.

but they’re not above criticism, and im really really feeling some type of way about the use of dynamic pricing for TBP 2026. we know from other artists that it seems to be optional — ariana grande and chappel roan didn’t have dynamic pricing! — and we know that the bots and scalpers are gonna drive prices up astronomically. (i do recognize that it’s not entirely up to them, and that they have a big cast/crew and a costly production and of course there’s the predatory ticketmaster problem, but still!)

announcing a new tour/ticket sale just days after their last show (i’m still in debt from lltbp lol) + using dynamic pricing leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth (like why can’t they announce the tour but have the sale in a few months?!). people have observed throughout the summer that the pits seem dead (though to be fair it’s hard to tell in a stadium), and it increasingly feels like the pit and floor tickets are gonna go to people with big financial resources and not necessarily the big fans. status over heart, kinda.

it all feels to me like a little bit of a money grab, especially at a time when people are struggling financially (and politically), which feels distinctly not punk rock lmao. going to a concert should not be a luxury that only the extremely wealthy can it afford, and the fact they seem to be willfully making it that much harder for fans feels antithetical to the message of the show and what the band has always stood for. im undecided if ill buy or even try to buy during the sales on friday, but hope that the people who really want tickets are able to get them for fair and reasonable prices. i really hope they hear the fans and decide to turn off dynamic pricing, and that they commit to making (hopefully!) future tours more accessible and fair.

tl;dr: dynamic pricing, my beloathed :(

Discussion Might just be an elder emo take on the whole signed merch thing but…

1.7k Upvotes

With all the love in my heart, I need y’all to understand that selling a signed album for a whopping $15 all but guaranteed that it would sell out instantly. The fact that MCR tried to make it a reasonable price for everyone in addition to hand signing each copy…I didn’t even bother trying because I knew there’d be no way I’d manage to get one. If you did, lucky you! But the number of posts I’ve seen asking for the band themselves to beg forgiveness for this debacle is laughable.

All I can suggest here is don’t entertain the scalpers. Be bummed for a little while, laugh at the ridiculous prices these assholes are posting the merch for, and then go on about your day! I promise you regardless of whether or not you got the CD and whether or not MCR addresses it…the sun will still rise tomorrow. ☀️

Discussion MCR5 isn’t confirmed

People are circling some videos saying that we deserve another album and yes, he did say that…but that’s not all he said.

His full comment was “We’ve always tried to make another album and hopefully life will let us some day. You’ve kept us alive and deserve another record, hopefully we’ll do that someday”.

This isn’t confirmation, the sadness when he says it just reeks of a “it’s not you, it’s me”. This is a man saying they they think they owe us a 5th album but have never been able to make it work, they want a 5th album but there is absolutely nothing ready.

Take it for what it is, definitely take it as actual confirmation that they want to do another album or that they want to do more songs…do not take it as an MCR5 confirmation. It’s no more a confirmation that me confirming that one day I’ll win the lottery, because I want to and I think I deserve it.

Edit: Just going to post the full transcript here as my is a bit off (had to piece together a few clips and also on phone so trying to remember it whilst putting the post together; "Just know, that like, we kinda always wanted to make another record so, we hope that life allows us to do that. Cause you guys, honestly, you guys kept us alive so long, you guys deserve another record and we'd love to do that. I dont know when it'll be but it'll be awesome".

I think I got it pretty close, but don’t want anyone thinking I’m pushing some agenda.

Edit 2: When I woke up to this announcement I was giddy, what then followed was the realisation that I’d only been given half the information.

That was the whole point of this post; if you’re an optimist and want to hope then I absolutely love that you you but don’t share half the information because someone else is just going to get disappointed

Discussion Some MCR fans are disgusting. (Philly edition)

1.4k Upvotes

Guys. I was dressed very normal for this show. I was so excited to even be there because i had to travel across the country (10 hrs both ways) to get there, and bc i had a car wreck a month and a half ago that obliterated my arm.

I was just standing there vibing and minding my business and there were some ppl to the right of me saying they liked everyone’s fits. No big deal, i agreed. Everyone looked amazing.

But then people started staring at me and talking about what i was wearing and saying "fans don’t try to look like fans anymore and no one fits the scene - some people are lame.“ - like - bro. Do you know how hard it is to get ready with one hand and arm? 🥲

I had planned to do really cool eyeliner and wear a sun god crop top with a black corset skirt and docs with sun god jewelry and hand tassels but i literally can’t physically fucking do that. So instead i had on a dress shirt, camo pants and converse shoes w mascara. I felt so ostracized.

Don’t get me wrong, i love the band and i love Gerard.

But to those of you who were judging me last night: some of YALL are literally worshiping a man who changes for the b set and wears very normal clothes but I‘M gonna BE JUDGED FOR THAT? 💀 i love the band and hate the fans. You all suck.

Edit: I’m editing this to include the fact that people were talking about my and others weights as well and taking pictures of the heavier fans in the pit to laugh at them. The clothes honestly bothered me more bc I’ve gotten fat comments my whole life.

Edit #2 as I’ve mentioned in the comments, there’s a bigger problem stemming from this abt the fatphobic, ableist, judgemental nature of the fans toward not only other fans like me but even Gee himself. And YALL wonder why he’s not in the public eye as much anymore or on socials. It’s because of people like you (bullies mentioned).

Edit # 3 there were guys AND girls making comments on my clothes but only girls taking pictures. They were all under 25 y/o looking. And for the absolute dick heads telling me I’m lying and asking how i heard this: right as soon as i got in the pit is when this started, Alice Cooper was still like 1.5 hours from coming on and there was like no music at this time. I’m very OBVIOUSLY AND CLEARLY disabled at the moment and i was quite literally looking into the eyes of the people who were saying this shit. Fuck off with your made up story bullshit.

Yesterday I made a joke post about a MCR/ Beyonce collab since they both have albums named black parade and the comments... yall don't ever talk about white artists that way lol.

That's just an isolated instance, trust me there's been plenty of things in this sub that deserve some side eye. Some of you are not as accepting as you would like to believe if we're keeping it real. But I digress....

Discussion This has gone beyond the Barricade Brigade

1.5k Upvotes

They’ve completely Streisanded themselves. It’s now very evident how far the entitlement and cliquiness of the fandom runs. The more they try and delete these posts shows exactly who the mods associate with. Let me break it down for you.

You are not special for seeing them multiple times.

You are not important for being at the front.

You are not friends with the band.

No amount of tickets or spots at barricade will change this.

This is literally tearing the fandom apart. For a band that promotes sticking together when faced with bullying and adversity, I am appalled at the way people are being treated. I for one will not stop speaking on this until this has been properly addressed.

Discussion In hindsight, they earned this response

Post image

This tour has been an absolute whirlwind. A testament to MCR's theatricality and performance abilities. They've went above and beyond in the production department to deliver a spectacular tour, that not only takes full advantage of the spectacle but also of our streams, creating a part by part narrative that everybody is welcomed to engage with.

They've made characters, a city with it's own politics, it's own language (Keposhka) and national anthem, a brand of soup, an agricultural resource, a Coat Of Arms, and most importantly, Quizzo. They've extended and reinterpreted the original Black Parade tracks to fit this narrative and build a story, that's not only original but that gets everyone involved, from the band to the actors to random crew and the audience members.

If you would've told any MCR fan that you think they'd reunite, back in 2018, you'd be looked at as if you were crazy. If you said what this tour was gonna be, everyone would try to lock you up 'cause you've clearly gone off the deep end.

I love how they invite us to speculate, to try and dissect everything going on and I'm sure they've got many more twists and turns. Stay tuned.

Discussion The MCR Barricade Drama Is Getting Ridiculous

About this whole MCR barricade controversy: here’s a revolutionary solution.

Stop whining and stand your ground.

Someone tries to push you out of the spot you’ve been holding? Don’t move. They push into you? Hold your ground. They try to intimidate you into leaving? Tell them no. If it gets genuinely aggressive, call security.

That’s it.

I’ve been going to shows forever, and the pit has never operated on some sacred diplomatic protocol. People want a better view. People squeeze forward. People try to take space. Your job is not to politely surrender yours and then write a 14 paragraph Reddit post about it the next morning.

You got there. You have your spot. Own it.

And if some self appointed “barricade brigade” tells you they make the rules, here’s the good news: they don’t.

And seriously, the Barricade Brigade doesn’t own the barricade. They only have power if everyone else agrees to give it to them.

Someone wants your spot? Make them work for it.

Stop letting them win. You don’t need a Reddit post. You need to hold your spot.

Apparently we need to relearn how concerts work.

EDIT: Judging by the replies, I apparently underestimated how controversial “stand up for yourself at a rock concert” has become.

A GA floor is not reserved seating. You do not own a little rectangle of floor because you arrived there first. People move. People squeeze through. Crowds push forward. Someone will inevitably bump into you. Someone may try to take your spot. And, shocking development, some people at concerts are assholes. This has been true for approximately as long as concerts have existed.

So yes, hold your ground. Tell people to fuck off. If someone actually crosses the line, get security and have them removed. But I refuse to pretend that every shove, bump, confrontation, or asshole trying to get closer to the stage is some profound violation of the social contract. Sometimes you’re just experiencing a crowded rock show.

And the romanticization of the MCR fandom in these replies is incredible. “But this music was made for bullied kids!” Okay? Bullied kids can grow up to be assholes too. Have you met humanity? Listening to The Black Parade does not confer moral purity. There are wonderful people in this fandom and there are assholes. Just like literally everywhere else.

I also think COVID seriously broke people’s understanding of public spaces. Somehow we went from “a rock show is crowded, chaotic and occasionally uncomfortable” to “nobody may enter my personal perimeter without consent.” That is simply not how a packed GA floor works. If that environment sounds miserable to you, totally fair. There is an excellent invention called assigned seating.

And yes, I think Reddit makes this exponentially worse. Every unpleasant interaction gets turned into a morality play, everyone competes to have the most righteous take, and ordinary conflict gets inflated into evidence of some enormous cultural crisis. Sometimes someone was just an asshole to you. You don’t need a 600 comment symposium about what it says about the soul of the fandom. Deal with the asshole, block the strangers yelling at you online, and go live your life.

Apparently this means I’ve “aged out of the scene.” If being “in the scene” now requires believing a GA floor is reserved seating and every unpleasant human interaction requires a Reddit tribunal, then yes. Consider me ancient.

EDIT 2: And since the word “assault” keeps getting thrown around, let’s talk about that too.

Assault is a serious word. From the accounts I’ve read here, a lot of what people are describing is being shoved, hip checked, crowded, or physically pushed out of a barricade spot.

Guys. Come on.

You can call that assault if you want. It sucks. The people doing it are assholes. But you are also describing shit that has happened in the pit at basically every crowded rock show I’ve attended for decades. People shove. People use their bodies to move forward. People try to displace you because they want your view. You push back, plant your feet, tell them to fuck off, or call security if it gets out of hand.

There is a gigantic difference between saying “this behavior sucks” and acting like being hip checked at the barricade is an unimaginable act of violence that nobody could reasonably be expected to handle. If you choose to be at the very front of a packed rock show, some physical confrontation comes with the territory.

So yes, maybe by the broadest definition you were “assaulted.” Fine. But words have weight, context matters, and turning every shove in a pit into capital A Assault is exactly the kind of catastrophizing I’m talking about.

People desperately need to rediscover some resilience. Not every asshole who shoves you at a concert needs to become your trauma, a fandom crisis, and a 500 comment Reddit investigation. Sometimes an asshole shoved you. Shove your way back into your spot, tell them to fuck off, and enjoy the fucking show.

EDIT 3, and final one — Not every unpleasant interaction needs to become a trauma narrative and a referendum on concert culture. Sometimes you just encountered an asshole. Welcome to being around other human beings.

Discussion MCR are not playing The Black Parade at the Oct 30/31 shows

Post image
795 Upvotes

They were not announced as Black Parade shows, the description for them literally says “These newly announced dates follow the final three shows of the band's monumental "The Black Parade 2026 Tour". The "Devil's Night" and "Halloween" shows will deliver a unique atmosphere shaped by the weekend's energy, the venue's natural beauty, and the band's ongoing commitment to creating unforgettable live experiences.” and the poster is specifically not black parade themed and uses the revenge logo / bullets era art.

In addition to this the venue expects only those three to be Black Parade shows.

It truly is not up for debate. Crazy people think otherwise.

Discussion “If you ever felt used”

1.8k Upvotes

For those who will not read this entire thing and still get mad at me, I would like to preface this by saying I am a lifelong-diehard fan of the band. Everything I am about to say comes from a place of love and not intended to defame my heroes. These words may be my own, but after talking with some of you over the past couple of days, I know I speak for many of us when I say that My Chem have genuinely let most of us down here.

Their first mistake was of course only leaving three days for tickets to go on sale, from their initial tour announcement. I realize lots of artists do that nowadays, but that does NOT make it okay. Leaving dynamic pricing enabled on a short-run tour that you didn’t even offer a fan presale on is absolutely batshit crazy to me. They’re not idiots. They knew that scalpers and bots were going to get the majority of tickets before fans could, and yet here we are.

Oasis, Pearl Jam, Iron Maiden and The Cure are just a few examples of groups that have become heroes to their fans, for how they have handled the modern concert industry. All of them have put their own protective measures in place to ensure that their fans are the ones that get their tickets in hand. Not only were face value tickets already pretty pricey, but the resale is disgusting and I’m naively hoping they will do something.

If you are someone who is even passively bummed out by this I encourage you to speak out as well. I realize they are all people and owe us nothing but if they aren’t going to tour for their fans, quite frankly they shouldn’t tour at all. This behavior and lack of action to ensure we are the ones at their shows has left a very bitter taste in my mouth. It is a far cry from Gee’s cute little blog posts, or inviting fans to be in music videos. If you love this band as much as I do and feel as upset and confused, shout it from the fucking rooftops. Make a TikTok, a Reddit post, hell comment it on their Instagram while it’s enabled if you feel so inclined. So many people have never been able to see the band live before, and deserve a fair opportunity. My Chem deserves to play to a sold out stadium full of fans, and fans deserve to not go into debt for the rest of the year just to see them.

I can’t believe I have to say this, but wearing “Gerard Way Did 9/11” and merch of the like just simply is not cool period- especially at the hometown show where they witnessed the event happen. Not to mention many other attendees who have witnessed it as well. It’s incredibly disrespectful imo.

Discussion I don't know if they stand for anything anymore. Wealth is a disease.

Im starting off by saying that im extremely privlaged to be living in Europe so my tickets aren't anywhere near as expensive as the state's (even though i have to travel to a different country to see them) but I find it extremely ironic how they go around playing victims of a fascist regime and delivering all these extremely political performances that you cant even experience unless you have, what, like 300$ to she'd with such little notice? I understand they have little say over the prices but so did Robert Smith and he actually DID something about it. He didn't just let ticketmaster bleed his fans dry.

They are not the same band they were, the members aren't the same. I remember I lost all respect for Frank when he sold a SINGLE used fingerless glove for 33€, three god damn USED LAUNDRY BAGS for over 100€ each. His WWWY old man wig for like 170€? A 22.5" x 10" wooden board he used as artwork for the cover of one of his solo projects for 400€. Nearly half a grand. For a piece of wood with some holes on it and his signature.

What has really saddened me though, has been the way Gerard isn't as vocal as he used to be. I remember how outspoken he was during his hesitant alien tour, and what really devastated me was this statement he made on stage in 2014 saying "I think all the old white dudes at the top of the food chain that are controlling everything are fucking terrified of you." and how now, he would never say something like that on stage. Now, with this stadium tour, he is the one giving these old white dudes at the top of the food chain more money. The same people he was criticizing.

Gerard used to verbally show support and encouragement for his trans fans in his shows even in notoriously transphobic places like Russia and now all we get is sometimes the hand gesture over his chest when he sings "with duct tape scars".

I know this post is all over the place, i understand that as i have trouble expressing all my thoughts on the matter. Im ready for the hate and downvotes. I just remember feeling so empowered when id listen to what Gerard used to say to the crowd during his solo tour, and now I dont, because there's nothing there. Its nice that they're back, but i cant help but think that wealth has changed them.
