MH Wilds Wild(s) moods (my screenshot dump)

This is from my time with the game since launch :)

Focus on moody vistas, sorted kind of as a journey from Wyveria to Plains.

  • #1-3 Ruins of Wyveria
  • #4 Keeper's Approach path
  • #5-7 Iceshards Cliffs
  • #8 Overlook of area between Cliffs and Oilwell
  • #9-11 Oilwell Basin (incl. Forgotten Machineworks)
  • #12 Cavern Tunnel path
  • #13-15 Scarlet Forest
  • #16 Wounded Hollow
  • #17-19 Windward Plains
  • #20 Grand Hub

It was really hard to select only 20 images (max for reddit image posts). Would have been nice to feature at least shot one per season per map etc. . Maybe next time.

I was mostly going for capturing the lighting as it happens. Thanks to the dynamic maps it works like in real photography - you can explore all day long in the maps but you have to be at the right spot at the right time to experience the highlights. Fighting monsters during these times can be so peak, especially when it changes. (I wish there was a list for which quests feature quick changes, like the triple monster quests etc.)

Please excuse the low quality/resolution, can't be avoided on multi-image posts. Though I can post them in high res as comments if needed.

Screenshots all taken on PS5pro(set to Balance) during photo-mode (not paused, basically just to hide the hud so no filters etc.). Mostly before the PSSR update but at this reduced resolution you can't tell anyway.

And there are people who said that Wilds art direction is bad.

When the lighting hits right,  it's probably the MH game that looks closest to its concept art vision!

The dynamic lighting and season changes is a source of many complains  but they actually help to make it feel special. If the Plains would always be in sunny Plenty, you would not get these "wow, pretty" moments again and again.

And some moods you just can't get otherwise like fighting monsters during the storms. Though that comes across better in motion than in screenshots usually.

Maybe it wasn’t that bad on a technical level, but I still don’t like the design choice of making most environments indoor or enclosed spaces. After the forest area, you almost never see the sky anymore unless you go out of your way to look for it.

if the expansion map if as open as the plains,  I would consider it a good balance, overall.

the enclosed maps have some funky layouts and designs that would not be possible in normal "flat" maps.

If you liked these, you should see the environment design of stories 3.

I don't think people aren't saying these aren't beautiful, but that they're not bright and vibrant. Stories 3 does both atmospheres well and I hope we get that art style for the next portable or mainline game.

Cause it is. Every time I get on that game, I get annoyed with how muddy the game looks. I can't stand it. World looks way better imo.

Am i the only one feeling like wilds look much more like a « new world » than the actual new world😭😭😭

It’s a weird feeling
