I took the Non-Profit Spending data that Shad White released and made it searchable: all 36,326 payments ($4.23B, FY2021–2026) in one dashboard
thethomaswgeorge.github.ioThe State Auditor’s office publishes a Non-Profit Spending dashboard built from DFA’s MAGIC transparency data. It’s useful, but it’s hard to follow one organization across agencies, years and spelling variations. So I pulled every payment line out of it and rebuilt it here:
https://thethomaswgeorge.github.io/ms-nonprofit-spending/
What you can do with it
- Filter by fiscal year, paying agency, payee state or minimum amount
- Search by organization name, EIN, vendor number or expense item
- Click any organization to see every payment it received, every name it was paid under and which agencies paid it
- Download the full CSV (link at the bottom of the post)
Some things that stood out
- 355 organizations (by EIN) were paid under more than one name, so searching by name on the official dashboard splits them up
- 426 have more than one vendor number in the state system
- 10 match public universities, community colleges or school districts, which the report says it excludes
- 56 EINs lost their leading zero, which breaks lookups against IRS records
The dashboard runs 16 of these checks in total, including large one-time payments, year-over-year jumps of 3× or more, and round-number lump sums of $1M+.
Caveats
These are automated pattern checks on the recorded data, not findings of wrongdoing. Plenty of flags have boring explanations: chapters sharing a name, a lockbox address out of state, an affiliated foundation. A couple of the checks match on names, so they’ll have false positives. If you spot a mistake, tell me and I’ll fix it.
The data is current as of October 1, 2026, and the total matches the report’s $4,226,181,988.29.

Immigrants in ICE detention have no due process rights under US Constitution, federal appeals court says
Immigrants who enter the United States without appointments with immigration officials can be detained indefinitely and are not entitled to bond hearings, regardless of how long they have lived in the country, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Friday.
The 10-7 decision was issued in the case of three immigrant fathers in Texas who were detained without bond. It applies to immigrants who have already entered the U.S., as well as those who will enter in the future, and it has far-reaching implications for the more than 20,000 people held indefinitely in detention centers in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi – the states in the appeals court district.
Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi hold more than 40% of all ICE detainees by average daily population, making the 5th Circuit the largest jurisdiction for people challenging their confinement as unconstitutional. So far, it continues to be one of only two circuits to have upheld the Trump administration’s mandatory detention policy.
The 5th Circuit reversed an earlier decision by a panel of three of its own judges, which had granted bond to immigrants in detention after 90 days. The new ruling says people in ICE detention have no constitutional right to due process.
In the majority opinion issued Friday, Judge Cory Todd Wilson wrote that immigrants who have been in the U.S. a long time are still “applicants for admission” and therefore are subject to mandatory detention without bond.
Rebecca Cassler, an attorney at the American Immigration Council, who represented the three men, said the ruling is “an affront to the U.S. Constitution."
James Percival, general counsel for the Department of Homeland Security, praised the majority’s ruling.
“Big win in the Fifth Circuit on mandatory detention for illegal aliens, a principle codified in 1996 legislation but ignored by the deep state for decades,” Percival said Friday.

Don't Look Around Episode 3: "Tell The Truth"
More than 1 million people born in Mississippi now live in other states, many of them within a few hours' drive of home. If just 1% of them moved back each year, the state could make up for its net population loss over the past decade.
That's one of the fixes explored in the final episode of "Don't Look Around". The first two episodes laid out the problem. This one is about solutions.
Jackson filmmaker Khari Johnson has a specific idea: a school that trains film crews to handle the gear and lighting on set. "Sinners," Ryan Coogler's 2025 hit, is set in Clarksdale but was filmed in Louisiana. Johnson says one reason is that Mississippi doesn't have the crews or infrastructure for a production that size.
Others say the cheapest fix is a message. "The easiest thing they could do is free, which is to tell the world that everyone is welcome in Mississippi," said Darren Schwindemann, a former Mississippi business owner who moved to upstate New York. "They could do that Monday morning. It would cost nothing."
My personal answer? It all starts with telling the truth...

Listening to music on YouTube right now and a Scott Colom attack ad came up
The ONLY two points that it made were:
— wants high school students to have transgender surgery
— wants boys to be allowed in girls restrooms
This is the most pathetic shit I have ever witnessed living nearly 50 years in Mississippi. I just got finished watching the 2026 Carrie remake, and this ad made me think on it again.
Could we just leave the kids alone for a little while and let them be teenagers? What the hell is wrong with conservatives being obsessed about this crap that’s not even real? They need to focus on school shootings and the real issues that teenagers are facing, not this.

State road trip
We are driving through Mississippi beginning December 26th. We have about 6 days dedicated to this adventure. Plan on starting in north Mississippi and heading to Gulfport. I would love some suggestions of must see or do. We like state and national parks. We also love good coffee and food along with oddities to explore. Thank you for any recommendations!!
