Discussion Can we use this thread to report stations receiving new Myki readers...

..so that we don't have 50,000 separate posts and also I can update the map tracking which stations have new readers

Train stations - long distance V/Line rollout active

Myki area finished 7/12/2025, see progress gif here: https://www.reddit.com/r/MelbourneTrains/comments/1pgaoaz/new_myki_reader_rollout_completed_for_trains/

Last update 23/9/2026 - Wangaratta and Avenel

Trams - done!! (29/6/2026)

Update 1/9/2026: Added G Class note, Z3.168 and C2.5113 have new readers but are out of service, Z3.210 has been removed

Buses (by depot)

Last updated 25/6/2026, but please report any buses with the old readers! As we are not keeping track of every single bus it is possible that there are some individual buses that haven't been upgraded, but every operator has the vast majority done as far as we know.

Project Information The final Town Hall station entrance at Fed Square officially opens to commuters 29th Oct 2026! Finally completing the Metro tunnel project!

The final entrance of Town Hall station will allow for direct pedestrian access from Metro Tunnel services to Federation Square and ACMI. The new entrance was one of the most complex parts of the project. Will Thay, one of the construction managers of the project, mentioned that due to the tight space constraints crews had to build a mechanical slide to install escalators, which each came in six sections. It also features beautiful art pieces by Maree Clarke. Town Hall Station is one of the busiest stations, recording 7.7m journeys since it opened. As part of my Roblox Melbourne Tram project, I have been working on building Malvern tram depot, and while it is not fully complete, I must day I am pretty happy with how it is coming along. The depot is currently also being used to stable Brunswick based trams until Brunswick depot is added.

Discussion How do they know how busy the carriages are?

When a train is approaching a platform in metro tunnel the display shows how busy each carriage is. Are they getting this information from the security cameras on the carriages or how do they get this?

Discussion What's going on with the uptick in school reservations on Vlines?

Been taking the vlines for years now but all of a sudden in the past few months almost every morning peak service has an entire carriage or sometimes even two whole carriages reserved for school bookings. What happened to the good ole school bus?

Discussion Missing announcements interchange / express

Hello, now I believe I can make a good point here for missing announcements. One of the things that should be implemented on all metro trains is express, express announcements dosnt tell passengers it will start run express but only say "limited express" know that whats happening on this service

For a example if a Alstom comeng pulls up at North Melbourne during afternoon peak. This service runs express all the way to Essendon. but it dosnt tell u that the next stop it will not stop at the station (Kensington) but skips untill the next stop it scheduled.

However EDI comeng is the last rollingstock that do have an announcements that tells u "now Arriveing at south Yarra. change here for Sandringham services, from south Yarra this train runs express to Caufield".

What I would want to improve this express announcement is when the express has come to and end and gonna stops at all station it should inform the passengers that it will SAS

This will inform the passengers that it is about to run express and its thier last call to get off if it skips thier stop or not i have seen quite alot of people getting on thinks it will stop at the station and then they realised its not stopping and will take longer to get back home so this will improve more by telling people on the train so they are aware about it.

Another thing I want to add on to it is Metro dosnt tell its customers to change for a Vline to thier destination like if a up Sunbury train arrived at Sunshine it should say "change here for Vline towards Geelong and Ballarat" that would be improved for people to transfer for a Vline to head into country or Arriveing at Craigieburn but should say "change here for Seymour services"

What would u think if these were to be implemented on the metro trains ???

Project Information LiveDelays.com update!

I’ve received lots of requests to add V/Line, so it’s now live! 🎉 Coaches are also in the pipeline, and regional buses are already available.

My sincere request to you is simple: please check out LiveDelays and let me know what you think. Positive or negative, I genuinely welcome your feedback! I’ll work through your suggestions and keep improving the platform.

A little disclaimer about how I build LiveDelays:
I’ve designed everything myself, including the UX and how the whole experience works. I use AI to help with the coding, but I haven’t cut corners on the design or user experience. I want to get things right, and that takes time. So please bear with me as I continue building and adding new features.

Thank you so much for all the support so far. ❤️ I’m looking forward to hearing your feedback!

Article/Blog The Melbourne Suburban Rail Loop is in very advanced stages of construction and the Liberal-One Nation coalition STILL want to DESTROY all of this construction just because it’s a Labor project. Regardless of your views on the SRL, the current state of progress means it must be completed.

Travel Query Stupid question on Pakenham line train service terminating at south yarra at 8:30 tonight

Hi everyone,

I’m sorry for the silly question but I’m confused about the planned disruption tonight. It says the train will terminate at South Yarra from 8:30.

However, on the journey planner or Google Maps if I set my journey from Southern Cross to Pakenham at 8:30 it still says to go to Town Hall or State Library and change. Are there still trains? Is the 8:30 train starting from Sunbury? And when’s the last train into CBD?

Humour Has anyone here ever been on a train or bus where someone was fast asleep by the time the vehicle got to the last stop and if so what actually happens?

What would happen if someone didn’t wake up and the train or bus arrives at the end of the line, what the hell happens if you are just laying there unconscious on your own?

Anyone here either seen it happen or even been the person themselves? Would be fascinating to find out if it happens with buses as well

Activism/Idea Victoria uses SCATS too, when can we give buses and trams similar treatment, so it doesn't spend 80% of its time not moving?

Discussion Loud rail joints?

This is an odd one, so bear with me.

I live very very close to a railway. Think ‘bedroom 10 metres or so from the track with nothing between us’.

Unfortunately I also live near a section of rail joint.

It’s been tolerable for years and we’ve done what we can to treat the noise and most of the time I really don’t notice it, but in the last 2 weeks something has changed. As strange as it sounds, the sound is ‘looser’ and ‘clankier’ recently. When the train runs over the rail joint now, it sounds much more like the joint is smacking another piece of metal or a plate and is noticeably louder.

Is this something that eventually gets maintained or is this just something I’ll need to get used to?

Activism/Idea Vlocity PIDs

Why don’t Vlocity trains have more informative PIDs? Once they leave the station, passengers have to rely on conductor announcements which are often difficult to understand (and impossible for anyone with a hearing disability). The dot matrix displays seem terribly outdated, if they’re even operational.

Case in point - a passenger boarded yesterday afternoon’s Eaglehawk express service intending to travel to Deer Park but obviously got on the wrong train. This one runs express between Footscray and Castlemaine. By the time they realised what had happened the train was already in the outer suburbs. (The passenger then hit the emergency button so the whole train was made aware of what had happened.)

Better onboard information would have easily allowed the passenger to notice their mistake much earlier and disembark at Southern Cross, or even change at Footscray. With no new regional rolling stock in the works, surely it’s time for the state government to start replacing some of this 1970s technology?

Discussion Is political flyer distribution allowed inside Broadmeadows Station?

This morning I was at Broadmeadows Station and noticed One Nation people handing out political flyers in the station underpass, around the corner near the Pascoe Vale Road exit towards the bus stop.

What made me uncomfortable was their location. They were standing right at the corner of the underpass where passengers coming from Platforms 1 and 3 needed to walk to exit towards Pascoe Vale Road and the bus interchange. It wasn’t somewhere people could easily avoid if they were heading that way.

I’m curious whether this is allowed under Metro Trains’s policies.

I have no issue with people campaigning in appropriate places, but I don’t think passengers should have to walk past political campaigners at a station exit when they’re just trying to get where they need to go.

Does anyone know what Metro’s rules are?
