There is a growing pattern of MapleStory Classic + GMS players being falsely banned for playing on Linux, SteamOS, and Steam Deck using Proton — the same compatibility layer that Valve built and ships with every Steam Deck sold.

This is not speculation. There are multiple reports across Reddit, Discord, and Nexon’s own support forums. Players are being flagged by Lie Detector tests and subsequently banned, with no meaningful communication or response from Nexon support. Some have had tickets open for 5+ days with zero response.

The most damning detail: On October 22, 2026, a detailed step-by-step guide on how to play MapleStory Classic on GNU/Linux using Proton-GE was approved and published on Nexon’s official forums under “Game Guides.” All forum posts from new users require moderator approval before going live. Nexon reviewed and approved a guide instructing players to use the exact setup that is now getting people banned.

What we know so far:

Players on Steam Deck, Arch Linux, and other Linux distributions using GE-Proton to run MapleStory Classic are being flagged by the anti-cheat and banned Players using controllers are being hit with repeated Lie Detector tests, and failing a few of these can result in a ban — a major accessibility concern for players with disabilities who rely on alternative input devices A wave of unbans has occurred, confirming that Nexon is aware these bans were issued in error — but many affected players have not had their bans reversed and are still locked out with no communication Multiple reports have surfaced on the r/MSClassicWorld subreddit warning Linux/Steam Deck users about this issue, documenting false bans, and raising concerns about how Lie Detectors interact with controller input and accessibility needs Multiple threads on the official MapleStory Discord document players being falsely banned under identical circumstances Some of these affected players are paying customers who purchased packages like the early release Zakum bundle and are now unable to access the product they paid for Players with extremely low levels and playtime — some as low as level 23 — are being banned, which should make it obvious upon any manual review that no botting occurred

What Nexon needs to address:

If Linux/Proton is not a supported method of play, the approved forum guide needs to be taken down immediately with a clear public statement that this setup will result in a ban If it is not a bannable offense, then every account flagged in connection with Linux/Proton/SteamOS needs to be manually reviewed and unbanned The Lie Detector system needs to account for controller and alternative input users rather than treating them as bot suspects Support tickets from affected players need actual responses — going 5+ days without communication while paying customers are locked out of a product is unacceptable

This is not a new problem in gaming. Apex Legends had an identical situation where Linux/Proton players were hit with a false-positive ban wave from EAC, and Respawn acknowledged the issue and reversed the bans. Path of Exile 2 flagged Linux/Proton users as running cheat software and patched it. Nexon’s own game The First Descendant fully supports Linux/Proton using Easy Anti-Cheat. There is precedent for handling this correctly — Nexon just needs to do it.

I get there must be shitty rewards for every event but giving SPELL TRACE???? give me some ATT BUFF, EXP pot or something. This kind of rewards should be removed. Honestly.

As someone who has no hands (rip), classes who have great survivability make Ctene bossing way easier especially at solo min clearing.

I already know of Shade, Ren, BM, and Erel are some of the best in this.

What other classes have I missed? Whether it's iframes, drain, dmg reduction, etc.? Ideally classes that have some decent solo damage as well?

Debating between those two for CW4. I want to main the one I create.
I tried both and they are fun for me, I like their mobility and play style.

I'm just confused by the situation of Dual Blade. I've heard it's not that good even since Astra but I'd like to hear some recommendations or disrecommendation from people that actually play those classes, or better play both and say how do they feel about them

Edit: forgot to say Ark was my third option, so would like to hear the opinion about him as well. I played it a while ago and liked it but didn’t invest that much because it felt really bad to feel like in top of the world only half of the time where the rest feels like shit

So I'm in at the point where I'm starting to 23 my gears, thought it would be best to start with SoS after I eat up all my eternals spares,

My current situation is:
22* SoS
2 SoS spares
5 Sup pendants
19 Dominators
17 Daybreaks (current daybreak is 23, don't think I will push it any higher)
and 3 pitched restores which should probably go towards other pitchies

Edit: also 12 normal star cores for the gollux pendants

There are just so many different ways to go about this, and I can't seem to find a definite answer that's most meso efficient

I'm probably aiming for 24 +

Wanted to make a thread with CW4 coming up for their experience clearing CTene in previous CWs. (More so HDarknell and HVHilla, maybe HWill lol)

- What CP were you when you first cleared?
- What was your HEXA when you first cleared?
- What challenger world rank were you?
- What class were you playing?
- What did pacing look like? (Absolute min clear, etc)

Any tips for all would be great. Feel like it would be helpful to most to see the different experiences between classes, strength, etc. feel free to add anything I missed as well! Thank you!

Been thinking about what character to make for cw, I’m an Interactive player and I’m making the switch to heroic with this cw. I’ve always wanted to main a lumi, but not sure how well they perform and essentially a blank acc with no legion/links.

Anyone who has done cw as a lumi, what has been your experiences and cp to clear bosses.

From what I heard from the MapleSEA event is that odds of hitting S rank and full clearing were supposed to improve as our ranks went up.

I feel like my odds are not improving. I haven’t seen an S in the past couple of days, and even getting 250 fragments is difficult. Am I just unlucky? Or is GMS different?

Apparently sitting in a chair that can sit multiple people can cause your character to moonwalk (client-side). Sitting in a normal chair will undo the bug.

It has been a long journey but I finally ended CW3 with a lot of satisfaction.

Challenger Rank and 102000 Points. My Home. New Furnitures. Completed the Dating Event (well-written and satisfied read) and a decent Hayato can smash everything to Hard Seren.

My goal until CW4 is stocking resources and prepare for new HEXA skill and Lethe herself.

From all the videos so far, Lethe might be the dream class I've always awaited for, and hopefully, the last class I will ever need to dedicate time because hell, I do want to go back to being a story-player to explore MapleStory from scratch once again.

I’ve recently gotten some more free time and decided to spend some time grinding instead of just being a daily story player.

But quickly I realized that I’m just running out of 3x exp coupons super quickly.
I also don’t have enough legion coins to buy out the exp buff when I’m also buying the meso legion buff.
