Why I love Los Feliz…
I have lived here for nine years, born in LA and lived all over. I’m a middle-aged actor/filmmaker, not famous but do fine. I live a very normal existence. Here is what I love.
Los Feliz is walkable. From where I live, I can walk to almost all of my everyday needs. I realize some may live further and the places I go might be too far but so much of the neighborhood is conducive to a nice constitutional.
Los Feliz is fairly quiet. Sure, LFB is somehow a drag race zone for assholes in their overpowered German sedans but the rest of it, at night, is tolerable. I feel so much peace and joy hearing a distant train whistle, lying in bed and falling asleep.
Los Feliz has a great cross section of the city. Youth, our elders. Racial diversity and gender.
The park. I love that GP is up there; I can go whenever I want. Or not. Great hikes, one of the greatest views of the whole city. At night, it’s actually spectacular.
Los Feliz is medium old. It’s not so old it’s falling apart or needs dramatic rebuilding but it’s also not filled with those monstrosities of fake modernism that take up the whole lot. Even its apartment towers are iconic. One thing: it needs to get about twenty percent denser. YIMBY.
The people. Except the occasional experience at lazy acres, I have found almost every single person I run into in any of the various shops, restaurants, bars, and coffee spots to be so agreeable, gracious, and fun to talk to. This is probably what I like best. Unpretentious normal people who have changed through the nine years actually but seem to be on the whole just awesome. By the way, on the whole I really love lazy acres.
Los Feliz is easy to get in and out for the most part. Yes, of course Los Feliz Boulevard becomes incredibly congested during traffic hours, but it’s not that crazy. It’s not the freeways. And there are alternate routes. If you don’t have to just don‘t go down LFB at rush hour. There is no neighborhood in LA that doesn’t have at least some of this and I think we have it pretty good. Pretty good access to the 5, the 2, thereby both to the 110 and 134 which gets you easily to the valley and all points that way. The 101 is easily found in various ways as well.
There’s a lot of history here too, many many first homes and hangs of very cool LA film people and showbiz people generally who lived here. There are incredible spots were nightlife from the 50s and 60s begat legends.
…and perhaps the thing I like most of all is that it feels like a real neighborhood. It isn’t an endlessly constructed experience. We have some bookstores. They are owned by people and they are beautifully curated. We have cutting edge coffee shops. We have old-school coffee shops. We have our post office. We have a lot of restaurants that don’t look like they’ve changed in 40 years, good. Is the food amazing? No. But every single place is comfortable and has been here with character forever. Our Albertsons is the best Albertsons. Little Dom’s has some of the best vibe of any restaurant in the city. A walk down Vermont is like a walk back in time but thriving and alive. We have the Los Feliz three. Is the sound quality and picture quality the best of the city? Not a chance. But I still love seeing movies there. Change always comes, and here it comes . Yeah there’s a new building. Looks a little anonymous, maybe another one over there. There’s a really cool looking new one over here. There’s a California chicken Cafe. But there’s also Barnesdale Park that doesn’t change at all. Nearby neighborhoods are doing amazingly weird things that I love: Melrose Hill, down on Virgil, East Hollywood. But Los Feliz stays Los Feliz. Would love to hear what you love.

CALLING ALL WEIRDOS: I Spiraled and Made A Master List of 150+ LA Social Spaces for Neurodivergents, Artists, and Outsiders
Like all good procrastination projects, this one spiraled out of control and somehow became a pretty useful tool. One I desperately wish I’d had when I moved here 9 months ago, when I was completely socially stranded with no idea where to start, let alone what places might actually be a fit for me, and overwhelmed by the social pressures of mainstream culture in LA. So naturally, I did what any socially anxious, neurodivergent person would do:
I followed every club, collective, and mutual aid crew I could find on Instagram... and then fed them, one by one, into ChatGPT to help me build a master list... instead of, you know, actually going to any of them.
What came out of it is a beautiful, collapsible spreadsheet of 150+ genuinely cool, active, and slightly underground LA community spaces. Things like: queer discos, radical book clubs, art studios, mutual aid groups, film screenings, sewing circles, game nights, hikes, and more. It’s focused mostly in and around the Eastside (for now) and includes tags for types of engagement and audience/vibe so you can actually find what fits. Important note: this does not include every club in LA, and it’s not trying to.
It’s curated for a specific vibe I was craving: I wanted stuff that was neurodivergent-friendly, queer-rooted, BIPOC-centered, earnest, leftist, offbeat, status-unbothered. Stuff that felt alive. Main categories include:
- Arts, Music & Creative Classes
- Mutual Aid & Volunteering
- Outdoor & Wellness Communities
- Literary & Book Clubs
- Political & Social Justice Orgs
- Game Nights & Supper Clubs
- LGBTQ+ & Identity-Based Orgs
- Event Boards & Bulletins
Yes, it’s disproportionately light on workout clubs (sorry not sorry) and heavy on film, books, mutual aid, and weird creative stuff. That's just what I'm into okay!
But I’m totally open to suggestions if you know a group that belongs here or spot something I should edit.
🗂️ Here it is!
Please drop a comment if you have thoughts, questions, or recs of things to add. And let us know if you've actually been to one of these groups and had an especially good or bad experience! The more info that's in one spot, the better!
And if it’d be helpful, I’m thinking about launching a newsletter to highlight upcoming events + report back on ones I go to. Let me know if that’d be useful to you. I know this is a little unhinged. But it was made with love, maladaptive coping, and a real desire to feel connected.
Hope it helps someone else find community and feel a little less alone!
(Edit): Per someone's suggestion, I also just made an insta! Ppl can follow me at The Field List for weekly round-ups of events :)

Albertsons
What is up with the 3-5 Eastern European looking dudes chain smoking in the back of the Albertsons parking lot towards the sidewalk? Nothing negative to say about them, just genuinely confused how this became their spot and why they stare down every single person walking by as if they aren’t hanging out in a public grocery store parking lot.
New to the area as well.

Puppy Only Daycare NELA?
We’re located on the border of HLP / Eagle Rock. We just adopted a 3 month old small puppy. When we lived elsewhere and our older dog was a puppy there was a great training/daycare option that took puppies only (small numbers) let the puppies play and also did training. Very different than big drop off for the day places. Is there anything like that in LA or Pasadena? We’d be willing to drive a bit. Thank you in advance!

Happy Halloween Los Feliz! Few scary moments from our film fest winners
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Happy Halloween neighbors!
We made this short clip from horror moments of films that won at Los Feliz Film Fest in 2025 and 2026. All real short films, real actors and crews, we just cut the scary parts together.
Our next screening night is May 15 at Barnsdall Gallery Theatre. It’s free, like every year, everybody is welcome.
If you make films or know someone who does, submissions are open and early bird price is until Dec 1. Filmmakers from everywhere can submit, and we have special Los Feliz Award for films connected to our neighborhood. losfelizfilm.org/submit
To be honest, we are very small team, just few filmmakers from the neighborhood, no big sponsor behind us. Many of you donated before and that’s why screenings stay free, thank you really. If you want to help again, even small monthly donation helps a lot. losfelizfilm.org/support
See you in May!

Trick Or Treating?
Does anyone know if Ambrose is closing down for Halloween this year? Any other streets like it that close off for trick or treaters ?

Los Feliz Handyman
Has anyone used this person? He has almost no digital footprint, which is commendable in this day and age, but makes it hard for me to recommend him to my HOA for work. Anyone have any endorsements? Will also welcome any alternative recommendations 🤞🏽🙏🏽

Good inexpensive massage in the area?
Los Feliz/thai town/east Hollywood and maybe even koreatown if there is easy parking. Bonus for open later. Would like to go tomorrow after a movie maybe around 7 or 8

Meet New LA Friends in Friendship Focused Discord (21+)!
Hi there!
As I’m sure you know, it’s tough trying to make friends in adulthood. It’s hard to meet people outside of work, and organizing plans is a struggle—not to mention finding people that are consistent.
If you’re trying to find your people in Los Angeles, you’re far from alone!
We built a new Discord server focused on friendship to help cultivate opportunities to find new friends living in LA! The server is set up so you can meet people by chatting about your favorite hobbies, sharing events, planing meetups, and so much more. We have a robust network of channels to connect with others easily.
The server is LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and women-led. We would love for anyone that’s looking and open to making new friends in LA to join us. (21+ only)

Be careful for road rage drivers
Reminder to please be careful with all the road rage drivers out there! I was waiting in the turning lane to make an unprotected left turn on Hillhurst when it wasn’t safe to turn, and the person behind me laid on the horn at me to go. A line of cars was still driving through the intersection at full speed so I didn’t, but the road rage driver sped up to catch up to me when we both finally turned and then flipped me off. I always try to wait until it’s safe to turn so those behind me can be safe too. That was why it was safe enough for him to also turn in order to road rage at me. I immediately made a turn when I noticed him catching up to me. Please be vigilant and don’t let impatient people prevent you from defensive driving, let’s keep our neighborhood safe and accident-free. And don’t engage with the road ragers, it’s not worth your life

Do you think Los Feliz Blvd will ever be redesigned to be more bike-friendly?
I’d love to safely access the river path from Hillhurst or Vermont. My partner refuses to bike on LFB.

Halloween on Holly Knoll
Does anyone know details of Halloween on Holly Knoll this year? I know it’s huge every year, but I can’t seem to find any detailed information, specifically timing.
If anyone can point me to the organizers, would be greatly appreciated!

Looks like the new speed cameras are up & taking photos, Los Feliz Blvd. , east of Fern Dell, taking pics of west bound speeders
Noticed this today, and the flash was going off on what appeared to be speeding cars going west bound only towards Western. No warning signage.

The traffic
Lived here 2.5 years now, and I swear traffic hasn’t been this bad before. Los Feliz blvd is obviously the biggest offender, but now it seems like Rowena is constantly congested, Hillhurst and Vermont are bumper to bumper on Greek nights, along with Franklin.
Zoo Drive post bike lane installation is no longer a shortcut of any kind either. AND there seems to be an overall lack of street parking lately.
I love living here but it definitely doesn’t feel as quiet (for lack of better word) as when I first moved in 😭

Looking for Griffith Observatory Expert
Hey! I'm a student at Cal State LA, currently in my last semester, and my group is making a short documentary for one of our production classes. The film follows two friends of mine who are dating, as one experiences Griffith Observatory for the first time while the other shares her lifelong love of the Observatory and the experiences she's had there with him.
We're looking for someone with deep knowledge of the Observatory, its history, and its exhibits who would be willing to go on record answering questions that could be used as narration in the documentary. We're open to either a full filmed sit down interview or just an audio recording.
If you're interested in discussing this further, please reach out to me here, and I'll be happy to provide my student email!

Knit Happens at Barnsdall
Hi everyone! I’m hosting a casual crafting meet up in Barnsdall on Saturday November 7th from 2-4pm!
This is just a chance for fellow crafters to get together and bond over the love of the craft. Just bring your current project, something to sit on, and anything else you need for a great day in the park. This is very lowkey and hopefully will become a reoccurring thing for the crafters of Los Feliz!

Did anyone see or hear a car accident? Looking for help.
Looking for any potential witnesses or camera footage of a parked car being hit and completely trashed at some point between 9pm Sunday, Oct 19 and Monday afternoon on Price Street (4300 block). It was a white Mazda 3 (4 door). Who fucking does that? The car is most likely totaled… Any help would be greatly appreciated.

RIP Richard Riehle
Used to see him walking down Vermont to House of Pies often, he was a Los Feliz fixture, it was like he was a good luck charm if I saw him that day. RIP to Los Feliz’s own Richard Riehle!
