Vzn1.i Custom Build Review

Some of you already know me from this forum… as I am active.

But for background here is a summary:
I am currently at 0.0 HCP. Just won the club championship yesterday at 45. Formerly college golfer D3.

I wanted to game this new putter in the tournament but it arrived the day before it started, too bold a move for me to live with to put it in play and have it go sideways. So I gamed my OZ1 beater.

Here are the key differences between my oz1i and this new putter as well as the reasoning behind some of the choices I made with this build. Hopefully this effort will give you insight into building your own next version of putter.

I went another degree upright: from 74 to 75. It suits my eye better.

I went with thicker racing stripe alignment on the left hand side of the face. I am left eye dominant.

I went with the heavier head, and the accra shaft. I personally am a geometric momentum putter. This is one of my only gripes with LAB… they are too light. On heavier greens some hand manipulation subconsciously creeps in. The idea with the heavier head is same distance swing, more rollout.

I went with a 0 lean grip. This was the harder thing to come to terms with

Aesthetics
I am satisfied with the look. I like the white on blue and the inserts and shaft and grip. The cover seems more robust this time around. Hopefully itll last longer than the original HC that came with my oz1.

Performance
I took it out on the practice green and also have putted now with it extensively on the puttr device. The performance is leaps and bounds ahead of the OZ1. If you trust the weight and the geometry, the ball rolls purely into the hole. It had been a while since I made 87 putts in a row. It is a stable, stable club. Really something else. The roll of the ball is purer partly I would say because of the change in grip is allowing an easier delivered loft consistency.

Feel
I am convinced now that a heavier feel is a must for a lab. It make the technology more noticeable. The feel is orders of magnitude more stable and pure than the OZ.

Alignment
This is the area that is more subjective. I am used to the face of the OZ and as such the alignment on this new one still has to grow on me with sensory feedback on the course. Off the bat I would still call it easy to align. Ill Revisit.

Overall Rating and conclusion.
An authentic lab gives you the flexibility of making a weapon suited to your sensory build. Everyone’s build is unique. It may take you some time to carve your marble and find your shape, but once you do there are no companies that can build a club for you as freely as lab. Overall I rate this a 9.5/10. I deduct a half a point because it took a long time to arrive and I would have liked to use it in my club championship. Result was positive either way. This one’s a winner, probably the best lab ive tried. Congrats Trey and co.

Choosing LAB Putter Options for an Order in Korea

Hi everyone,

  1. I visited a local LAB Putter shop in Korea and tried a few putters.

  2. The fitter suggested changing my putting style, but I’ve tried that before without success, so I’d prefer to stick with my current style.

  3. I currently use a stock Link.1 at 33 inches. I like positioning the ball close to my toes and putting with straight arms, swinging the putter like a pendulum.

  4. With my current Link.1, the toe touches the ground first and the heel sits slightly up. Using a phone angle app, I found that a lie angle of around 78° seems to work best for me.

  5. I’m considering ordering an OZ.1i with a 33-inch shaft and a 78° lie angle. Unfortunately, I couldn’t test the different shaft lean, grip, or head weight options in the shop.

My current choices are:

- Shaft lean: 2°

- Grip: Press Pistol 2°

- Head weight: Light

Would these options make sense for my putting style, or would you recommend different combinations?

Thanks for reading, and I’d really appreciate your advice!

Outlet question

Whenever I go to the lab golf outlet, I get a message stating restocking - new inventory soon. It’s been like this for me for weeks. There is an option to input a personal specs alert, and I received an email this morning that a putter matched my requested lie angle. When I tried to view the putter via the email link, I got a weird 404 error message.

Are others experiencing this? Did the website move or something?

VZN.1i fit n review.

It's time to show my putter after using it for a little while. I decided to wait until I had used it before commenting. It's awesome! Now it did take some time to work out the distance control but iv got it now but it did take a good few weeks. She's hot off the face that's for sure. Iv watched the vids with tips on stance and style for hitting them and iv worked out my style from that. I push my hip towards the hole and poke my elbows out so I get a full pendulum feel. Seems to be working as I played yesterday and hit a few long putts and some very close long putts. I was fitted with one of those lab adjustable clubs at my local golf shop and it's like putting on your most comfortable shoes. You just slip them on and they are perfect each time. I love the lines I chose as I wanted the longest straight through lines to aling with my feet and ball line and the green I chose so it blends with the turf more. And greens my fav colour anyway. So yes go get a lab and keep it for ever and get fitted in person if you can.

Stats. Accra black shaft so the head feels heavier than the steel. 69' lie. 2' shaft lean. E10 lines. Press 2 pistol grip. White head cover. 🥳

VZN.1i ACCRA or Gears Shaft?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to get the new VZN LAB putter. I’m coming from a 34” steel shafted Newport 2.5+ Scotty and i’m unsure whether or not the ACCRA or the Gears shaft is for me. I don’t have the opportunity to test both thoroughly. I play on relatively quick greens, and lag putting consistently is definitely something I struggle with. Also just wondering if anyone has another opinion on the press grip and shaft lean? I currently have a natural press I do on my natural shaft and grip, but was thinking about opting for the included shaft lean and press grip for more consistency.

Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated!

for the price you pay for a putter to be custom built why do they not offer any anodizing options on the hardware lol

Superstroke tlt on the vzn

This is 2g lighter than the press 2 grip but still retains the offset. I like it a lot.

There is a bit of a tendency to have the face closed compared to before on the table test, but I really can't feel it during my putting stroke.

Anyone know a solid answer on what impact this would have?

LAB quality issues

Heya has anyone had any joy getting help from LAB with quality issues? I got a custom OZi HS a few weeks back and clearly the insert isn’t fully inserted. I’ve contacted LAB and they’ve suggested returning it for a rebuild. I’m in regional Australia and that would mean postage from me -> retailer -> distributor -> LAB -> distributor -> retailer -> me which will take ages and is pretty unsatisfactory especially given the cost of the putter. Even the embroidery on the headcover is off! Any tips would be appreciated.

Black cherry colour in hand vs marketing pics

Asked LAB customer support for in hand pics as I’m on the fence about ordering this colour. I figured others might be in the same boat as it’s a limited run. Seems more maroon than that “deep purple” they describe. It’s a ceratoke finish instead of anodized so it’s supposed to be more consistent from batch to batch but this is definitely different to what I was expecting. I don’t mind it but just an FYI for others on the fence

The wait is going to be agonizing

Just ordered yesterday. Hopefully the build time isn't actually 8 weeks lol. The wait is going to be agonizing. I heavily debated on the black cherry but just like the cappuccino more. Decided I was really only considering black cherry because it was limited. Flip them around and a limited cappuccino wouldn't have been a hesitation. If only they had a limited run orange for Halloween lol.

Oz1i with no shaft lean, thoughts?

I’m thinking about getting one, I was wondering how it feels with no shaft lean? I own a DF3 with shaft lean and TPT shaft, but to be honest I want something a little more “normal” looking. I’d prob go with the gears shaft to save a few bucks.

My incredible fiancée wanted to get me a putter for my birthday. She knows I go to the PGA Tour Superstore basically every day and try out the DF3i. She found one on Marketplace for $350 and bless her heart, she gifted it to me. I tried it out and immediately noticed it was a Temu putter. The weight, shaft, grip, all wrong. Unfortunate but I genuinely appreciate the thought and love with which she gifted it to me. Of course the account is no longer active. Oh well, happy birthday to me, always next year I guess.

Options for Vzn.1i

I’m looking to get a custom Vzn.1i changing out my Oz.1i that has a stock shaft. I’m interested in exploring the options for shafts for the Vzn but I have no idea what the differences are. I’ve called around to the different fitters near me and they’ve said they can get the low angle and length for me but they don’t have different shafts or grips to try. One place has a used Vzn.1i with the white ACCRA shaft to try but that’s it. I’m wondering:

  1. Does anyone have any ideas on how to try the options? $399 for a shaft alone is a lot to spend not knowing how, or IF, I’ll even like it.
  2. If you have a shaft different from stock how does it feel for you?
  3. I’m also curious how the different weight options affect the club ie, heavier head, heavier head with a counter balance grip etc and how you like it.

TIA

ETA: I’m leaning towards the Gears shaft. Any thoughts?
