I have had a few to many similar experiences this month. Guelph drivers are in such a rush no one has a care. Please be aware of what you are doing as more than just your safety is at stake.

This has no excuse other than pure ignorance.

Is Ken Yee Chew Moving?

Well he said if he lost the mayor race he would move due to not being able to afford to buy a home in Guelph despite a household income of at least 140k and renting from his parents (hint below market rent).

When should we expect to see the moving trucks?

New Council Breakdown

These categorizations are per the Toronto Star VoteCompass.

  • Mayor - Leanne Caron (ELSP)
  • Ward 1 - Dan Gibson (ERSC), Mustafa Zuberi (ELSP)
  • Ward 2 - Kim Fry (ELSP), Rodrigo Golliger (ELSP)
  • Ward 3 - Phil Allt (ELSP), Marty Williams (ELSP)
  • Ward 4 - Linda Busuttil (ELSP), Brendan Clark (ERSC)
  • Ward 5 - Cathy Downer (ELSP), Danny Lui (ELSP)
  • Ward 6 - Rebecca Adam (ERSC), Luke Devos (ERSC)

EL = Economic Left, ER = Economic Right, SP = Social Progressive, SC = Social Conservative

By my count, that's 9 economic left votes to 4 economic right and 9 socially progressive votes to 4 socially conservative. Bottom line is that we have a strongly left leaning council for the next 4 years along with all the implications for property taxes, core services, affordability, livability, transparency/accountability, handling of the unhoused, etc.

My conversation with mayor elect Leanne Caron a few weeks ago, “Even those who didn’t vote for me. I heard you loud and clear.”

Recorded this a few weeks ago, before the election. Was going to be a regular episode now it’s her Day 1 message.

Posting the closing moment because it’s the part that keeps sticking with me specifically the line about being mayor for the people who didn’t vote for her, and for the under 18 who couldn’t.

Co-Working Spaces?

Hey Guys,

I am looking to do some market research. Originally wanted to open a daycare/co working space to offer parents an option to have child care plus a working space.

But I'm now kind of staying away from the day care as regulations might have a problem.

What about a co-working space stand alone. For people who need office space but are just not ready to commit to a full-time lease.

A place where professionals can connect with other professionals over coffee and snacks in the common area.

If I were to open something like this in Guleph would you think there is a demand?

A couple photos from our Monopoly game night last Saturday!

Hey all! Just wanted to thank you for the overwhelming response we got regarding our post a couple days ago.

Wanted to share how the night went in case anyone was curious:

And no, there were no tables that were flipped

We ended up finishing 2 WHOLE games in about 3 hours!

Which is crazy because most people I spoke with never even finished a game of Monopoly, let alone finish one in this little time!

The game was fun and intense! After an exciting 4-way trade in the first game, 4 people ended up with a set. To my left the player ended up with a Dark blue set, the person in front got the oranges, to my front right he got the greens & some railroads, and to my right they got the reds.

I ended up personally with yellows!

Within minutes of the trade, the atmosphere quickly turned from casual & uneventful to intense & exciting! And very soon people started building houses & were strapped for cash, and were often times 1 roll away from bankruptcy.

The first game, which had a total of 5 players, and had some people that were fairly new to the game, only took 1 Hour and 45 minutes!

The second game took just over 1 hour (with 3 players)

We will be hosting our next game this Saturday again afternoon. We just created also an Instagram account for people to stay updated for our next event(s)

@GuelphMonopolyClub is our Instagram!

See you on the board!

No statement from Ken?

Usually an article goes out the night of the election to highlight what happened at the runner up’s campaign event and publish some sort of concession statement from him. What’s going on here? It’s 12 hours later and there are no articles and no updates on his social media.

Did he have an event last night? Was anyone there that can give some insight? Did he pack up and leave already?

Seeking gym or fitness classes. Any suggestions?

I am interested in taking on class once or twice a week to improve fitness.

I am looking for something easy. I am out of shape and have a bad knee and foot. I just need something like calisthenics or yoga. I am also looking for something that isn't hugely expensive.

I am having trouble finding something through google in the Guelph area and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions?

Advice to candidates for next election

It's too late for this election.

Have a good website. It doesn't have to be fancy, but it needs to exist, be reasonably complete, and easy to navigate. That's where I did all my research last night. I almost stopped researching one candidate because their website was mostly blank space and images to large for the screen. Another began with a flashing donate sign.

Proofread it. Ask your friends about it. Test it on different devices. Show me that this job is important enough to you that you will take the time to do it right. I don't care if you personally struggle with spelling and grammar. I do care that you value accuracy and attention to detail enough to work with someone who has those skills.

Give details. "Coordinate with the police and other groups to solve the homeless problem." Does that mean you'll coordinate to round them up and send them to another jurisdiction? Or move services to the far edge of the city with no transit access? Or do something that actually respects them as human beings?

Start with a term as councilor, instead of going straight for mayor. It shows you're in it for the long term and know what you're getting into. CEO of a multi million dollar corporation is not something you can parachute into.

Several of the mayoral candidates were ineligible for that job due to lack of experience, but were better qualified than the trustee candidates in my ward.

If you don't have experience with city politics, include experience that you do have. Attend city Hall meetings. Join the board of a community group. So that you understand the challenges of this type of job, and stick with it.

Candidate pamphlet in voting booth

I just voted in ward 2, and found a pamphlet for Greg Cix carefully placed inside one of the voting booths. I’m not suggesting he’s responsible (could be an enthusiastic supporter), but that’s flat out against the rules. Let’s have a clean election day, folks.

Anyone have the scoop on if this is why part of the Zehrs Imperial parking lot is under construction? I couldn't find a more recent article than this one, which reports the project had been deferred indefinitely.

Is this election interference ???

Confused on the rules of election interference. At the corner of Woodlawn and Victoria this morning part of ken Chew’s election team was at the corner playing music and shaking signs to vote for him at around 9am.

Just wondering what the rules are for this as I haven’t seen this before on election day. Especially since there are two polling stations in very close proximity.

Not knocking his team, I just like to know everyone is following the rules
