❓Questions Creepy man in greenpoint

Post image
600 Upvotes

Has anyone else been approached by this man in Greenpoint?

A couple of months ago, he had to be asked to leave a bodega because he wouldn’t leave us alone (we took this picture that night).

Today, he approached me again on the street, repeatedly telling me I looked like a model and inviting me to a Halloween party. He kept trying to show me pictures of his house on his phone.

When I told him he was making me uncomfortable, asked him to stop following me, and made it clear that I had no interest in attending his party, he continued following me and persistently tried to get me to take his “business card,” saying that he “wanted people like me at his parties.”

I’m curious whether anyone else in the area has had a similar experience with him.

❓Questions Where have NYC subway manners gone?

Took the subway (G and L) this morning and there was a pregnant woman, a 3-year-old, and a man with a cane in the car. Not one person offered a seat.

A whole car of healthy young professionals glued to their phones, seemingly doing everything possible not to notice.

I’ve been seeing this consistently lately, and honestly, I’m shocked. The people who actually offer their seats are usually nurses, older people, or others who clearly deserve the seat themselves.

When did basic manners become so rare? It’s infuriating.

❓Questions Runners, explain yourselves

What is going on with runners who decide to run in GROUPS at McGolrick Park? Why do you feel entitled to yell at people to “move over” when they’re peacefully walking, walking their dog, or walking with their kids? Why does yelling “ON YOUR LEFT” somehow mean that everyone else is expected to immediately move out of your way so your entire group can run through? Not to mention when they pass near you and EXHALE on your face because you didn’t move enough.

Moved to Greenpoint 6 months ago. Saw the water turning a deep red-brown a couple weeks ago and it lead me down the rabbit hole of learning about the disgusting history of pollution in Newtown Creek. Woke up today to see it the worst I’ve seen it yet. Is this caused by what I think it is or is it just some kind of water density difference meeting the East River… I can’t look at the river the same way anymore after learning what is continuing to be loaded into it. I know cities are always going to be dirty but this feels like such a disappointing failure to preserve the quality of living in NYC. Disturbed but not surprised. Hoping I’m misunderstanding something here?

❓Questions Why don’t people pay for the subway anymore?

I understand if someone is really struggling and can’t afford the subway fare. But I keep seeing people with designer bags and expensive clothes just walk through the emergency gate without paying.

Meanwhile, the people who do pay are the ones who end up making up the difference. I don’t get why paying the fare seems optional for some people while everyone else is expected to follow the rules to keep the subway going.

❓Questions Before I Lose My Mind

Can someone explain what's going on to me, especially if it's been problematic for them too?

At the beginning of September, heavy traffic speeding down my street started making my life hell. The road had a defect and the city made a rudimentary repair. Every time the bus and trucks hit the defect, which was a pothole within the center of a whole defective area of roadway, it made my house jolt.

They only spread some asphalt over the pothole, leaving the rest of the area uneven. The jolts continued. I filed complaints and was told that the DEP had until Halloween to come back and fix it. 60 days from the original complaint. I was told that this area of the road had been repaired before and obviously not well at all.

I called Gallagher's office, and they've been in contact with the city on my behalf.

Also, isn't there a law about commercial trucks on side streets? People have said that since the bike lane was constructed on McGuiness, more commercial trucks have been traveling down them.

Forgive me for my disorganized post, as I did not sleep. I was woken out of my sleep too many times by trucks and the road issue. Paying 20k in taxes and enduring this is not an option for me and I'm wondering if I should hire an attorney. It's not just about noise but the possible structural damage my house is enduring. I've survived towers being built around my home and the construction ended at 5. This goes on 24/7.

Will calling 311 about trucks do anything?

Thanks!

❓Questions Anyone noticing the increased entitlement and nastiness of cyclist in Greenpoint?

Overheard today: An elderly man was picking up his elderly wife on the sidewalk in his car.

A cyclist rode by (running right through a stop sign) and screamed “Get out of the bike lane, Bitch!”

Just last week I was crossing the road at the crosswalk with my young son. A cyclist nearly ran us over and screamed “Could you walk any faster asshole”. I was with my 2 year old.

Long time GP resident - I love my neighborhood and have nothing against those that ride a bike. I even enjoy a nice bike ride. As of late the political battle against cars has seemed to give cyclists an entitled attitude - screaming at our elderly neighbors, whining about banning cars. If they were in such a rush why are they riding a bike? Why do these folks feel like they can treat our neighbors like this? The elderly couple most likely spent the majority of their life here in GP.

❓Questions What business(es) could Greenpoint use most?

We clearly have an embarrassment of riches in this neighborhood, whether we’re talking bars, food options, or salons.

Is there one business you continually say “we could really use one(or more) of these!” ?

❓Questions Parents dumping kid feces in the park

Post image
68 Upvotes

Is this a normal thing for parents to do in 2026? Bring a mini toilet to the park, let the kid use the bathroom publicly, and then dump the waste not in the real toilet, which is 200 yards away, but on a tree.

I fear this may be bigger than the dog shit issue.

❓Questions How can we stop drivers from excessively honking on Greenpoint streets?

Anyone else fed up by drivers who lay on their car horns anytime they’re forced to wait while another car or truck makes a delivery or picks up/drops off a person? It’s especially bad on the more narrow streets.

❓Questions McCarren runners: what’s wrong with the track?

Why have running groups decided that the walking path is the ideal place to run in their packs of 5-1000, instead of the track?

There is a perfect space for running all of 20 feet away.

I noticed a while back that a new restaurant opened up on Nassau but it looked like it was a soft opening only for family/friends. I followed them on IG and see they posted a menu of sorts on their story, but it looks like their guacamole is $17?? And not a very big portion either. Has anyone eaten there yet and is it worth it? I was really excited to get some new Mexican food on this side of GP but now I’m not sure.

❓Questions how annoying is it to live ~15 minutes from the G?

My roomie and I are about to sign a lease on an apt a little north of McGolrick. We love the apartment and it has pretty much everything we wanted, but the location is giving me some pause.

It’s about a 14 to 15 minute walk to the Nassau Ave G. I’m fully remote right now and only go into Manhattan about twice a week, but I’m also job searching and could easily see my next role requiring 2 to 3 days in the office.

I also go to the Equinox in Williamsburg about 3-4 times per week, so getting there would either mean a long walk or walking to the G, taking it to Lorimer, and transferring to the L.

For anyone who lives in Greenpoint and has a 10 min + walk to the G, i’d love to get your perspective:

- How was the adjustment to the G being your main train?
- Does the 10 to 15 minute walk to the subway become a non-issue, or does it get annoying?
- If you commute into Manhattan a few times a week, how manageable is it?

Would especially love to hear from anyone who moved here from somewhere with easier access to the L or a more direct Manhattan commute.

❓Questions Bernie’s was MID!

Went to Bernie’s tonight for the first time.

As someone who knows restaurants, and has worked in hospitality for 10+ years…. What is the big deal?

Food was mid. Service was mid. Drinks were ok. I…. Don’t get it.
