Hi everyone,
I know a lot of people have asked whether we offer parking. After two years of trying, I was finally able to work something out with the MPG valet parking garage at 21 India Street.
The idea would be for customers who spend $150 to receive a free parking voucher. Is this something people would actually use?
My concern is that if someone is already driving, they may choose to shop at Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Wegmans, or Costco instead.
We are currently working on a project to reduce the prices of our grass-fed and local beef by 30% and our conventional beef by 20%, which we plan to roll out sometime in August or September. Once that happens, I believe our meat prices will be very competitive.
Beyond that, I understand that it can be difficult for us to compete with the prices offered by larger retailers. I just wanted to get a sense of whether people would actually use this parking program before we officially roll it out.
I would really appreciate any feedback. Thank you!

Video taken outside and along 23 West Street building complex.
I don’t understand people who could just let their dogs poop and walk away. Truly insane behavior. Even worse when FREE bags are provided!!!!!
They don’t care about being surrounded by shxt.
No one taught these adults to clean up after their pets and keep public areas clean?!
Absolutely disgusting anyone can just live like this.

I’m curious how much people generally tip in cafes, and what baristas expect.
I don’t have hard and fast rules but I feel like it kind of ends up like this:
$0.25 per prepared pours/quick grabs (iced teas, cold brew, muffin) so like if I got 2 cold brews and a muffin I’d prob do like $1 and if I just got 1 cold brew it would be like $0.25.
$1 per prepared drink (cappuccino).
15% on the order if I get food that needs to be prepared
I still usually only tip 20% at restaurants, because at restaurants there’s clean up etc.
Also how do people tip on deliveries?
———
Update:
It seems like there isn’t really a consensus. Very wide ranging tip philosophies here for many different reasons. Upvote ratio is about 50%, so I guess the question, or maybe my policy that is in the post is controversial.
I really appreciate the weigh ins from baristas! Comments have ranged from explaining how helpful tips are to bring their salary from not livable in gp to livable. Others have said they don’t expect it but appreciate it
I’ll be increasing my tips but I will likely not be doing 20% for everything. Thanks for everyone’s inputs

Hey all,
I've been thinking about opening a gym by McGolrick Park. A lot of the options close to us (Vibe Fitness, Chalk, BAC, Absolute Power) are a 15 minute walk away from our neighborhood. In the winter or in bad weather, it becomes a somewhat substantial commute.
Open floor layout, turf, squat racks, cardio equipment, full dumbbell set and then choiceful with machines from there. Probably won't be able to have full locker room/sauna situation based on what I'm looking at. But substantial, clean, pleasant place to be.
Crowdsourcing any and all perspectives from gymgoers in the area. Is this something you'd be interested in?
EDIT: This has been a great response. If anyone reading this has 5 minutes, filling out this Google form would be super helpful!

Finally getting priced out after 5 loyal years with my landlord who doesn’t seem to care about anything other than me writing a bigger check. After 15+ years of living in BK I’m finally starting to wonder if we’ve hit the ceiling, if the rent issue will ever go down or if it will just continue to spiral.
My partner and I both work high-paying jobs and we are completely dumbstruck at how inflated apartments are becoming, especially in “hot” areas like Greenpoint. I would honestly love to know who is able to afford some of the crazy $6-9k rents in the new buildings. Even with their parents paying, that is still crazy.
Is anyone else going crazy having to leave the apartment / home that they love? I’m not sure how much more pressure people can take on the housing market. I would love to know what everyone thinks about this, especially because Greenpoint is now completely transformed.
Edit: got called a dumb c*nt in the comments so it’s getting steamy in here 😂

I absolutely love going to Eagle Trading Company for their breakfast burritos. What’s your favorite place to grab breakfast in the area?

Are they safe to eat? Joking, just trying to understand what’s going on as similar berries in Jubilee are like 5-6x.

General safety in Greenpoint feels like it has gotten considerably worse in recent months:
We have crackheads fairly obviously dealing drugs by the Greenpoint Ave G stop.
About once a week I pass by someone in the fentanyl fold on Manhattan Ave or underground at the Greenpoint Ave stop.
Some of these same people aggressively stopping folks for money on Manhattan Ave.
For a city that spends $81,700 per year per unsheltered homeless person (per March 2026 report from our State Comptroller)…where are the results?

Does anyone know what the hell is going on in this building ? Current resident here and everything seems to be breaking: AC, water, elevators, etc.
Management doesn’t seem to be super transparent and I don’t know if there is a building group chat (but I’m not in it)!

All of the cold brew in the neighborhood has gotten significantly worse over the past few weeks? Wtf is going on? Odd fox used to have the best cold brew - it’s borderline undrinkable now. Sereneco - bad. Homecoming - bad. Charlotte Patisserie - bad. Park house - okay. Early - not good. Bakeri - not good. Where is the good cold brew that doesn’t taste like soy sauce & sink water??????????
UPDATE: got a cold brew from sweet leaf and it was fine. I don’t have covid lol
UPDATE 2: Campbells by McGolrick and coffee check are decent! Still missing a little something though

After another terrible commute this morning on the G train, I’m trying to decide whether my irritability is irrational. Has anyone else considered leaving the neighborhood primarily due to the unreliability of the G train? I’m on the verge.

Is anyone else near this home with the below ground pool and hears the dogs barking from 6:30am to at least 8pm? I know there are a few previous posts that he is possibly a squatter or dog breeder? This is new in last few months; I have been in my apartment for 7 years. Other than 311 is there anything else to be done? I am fine with dogs being let out and being excited etc but this is constant all day and poor dogs barking their heads off all day sounds bad for them.
ETA: I looked again during this afternoon barking spree: there is at least 5 and they must be let outside and then are jumping up and down constantly and barking to be let in.

Hey folks! Was walking my dog at Newton Creek Nature Walk yesterday and spotted this fella in the water. Thought it would be cool to share and see if anyone else has seen something like this over there or can help identify what it is!

We live in a 2BR 1 bath with a deck. Got our renewal today and they’re raising it by 11%…Steep. I countered proposing they go down to 5% but we sign a 3 year — thinking stability for both sides — not pleased with their counteroffer. Feels REALLY high. Curious to hear POV on avg rent for a 2 bedroom in the area.

Is it me or has the speeding increased? Isn’t the speed limit 25? It seems like no rules are enforced in GP anymore. I live on a block off McGuinness Blvd and it goes on 24/7. The trucks are the worst because of the noise they create, but people in cars are speeding like maniacs as well.

I live in a large fully lottery building (not luxury split) with folks of varying income ranges. Last year and this year I collected donations for holiday tip for 12 staff. Last year I was able to give folks $100 each but this year I can tell times have been rough because much less people donated and I could only give $60 to each staff member. I felt really bad but unfortunately I also don’t have the money to cover the rest to get it up to $100/each.
I wrote out thank you notes on cards and signed for every person who donated. My super called me almost immediately after he got his card and essentially said that $60 was not enough and that he “did the math” and for the amount of people who donated, the amount in the cards don’t add up and someone pocketed some money. I’m the one who collected the money (through Venmo and Zelle only) and did the math (like ten times, it was fairly easy math), so he was essentially insinuating that I pocketed some money. I honestly didn’t understand what he was saying at first because I just expected a “thank you,” and then when I realized I was so shocked I didn’t really say much (and also don’t think I need to defend myself).
I feel pretty justified that I didn’t do anything wrong, and have been validated in the group chat, but I guess I’m just wondering AITAH for some reason? Would it have been better if I didn’t give anything or gave everyone the money back after I realized I only gathered enough for $60/person? I don’t think I’m going to collect tip next year, I was just trying to do something nice.
Edit - this got a lot more views and responses than I thought, but I actually really appreciate the engagement. The rage bait commenters/bots have found it though and I’m not sure if the moderators have capacity to moderate over the holidays. I certainly don’t have capacity to read all these comments.
I had the best of intentions but I have learned my lesson and absolutely will not be putting myself in this position again where I organize and distribute tips. I also have learned my lesson to not air my grievances on a hyper local subreddit because it can devolve into a circlejerk. Thank you for all your comments!

Does anyone know whats going on?
Edit: there was a funeral next door at the church. Best guess is that the funeral was for a postal worker and they were there showing their support
